Tortorella is only a good coach when the talent is set up for him.

He's done nothing at all with teams "in the middle." And, in fact, has proved that he cannot (2009?). He's not exactly a guy to take over a middle-of-the-road roster and make it something special, like Ruff can.

Like Ruff and Hasek can :nana:

I don't even know what to say to this post so I won't say anything.

they have cups and ruff doesnt?

Good Lord, it's not drunkenness; it's just idiocy. Yes, they have Cups. With the right freaking players! Bylsma's a freaking idiot, but hey, he has a Cup.

EDIT: This is my fault; tracing it back, I made a positive comment about Lindy Ruff, and certainly, it provoked negative reactions. My bad. Let's move the thread forward and not derail it.

Jordan Staal to Carolina?

Wish the Sabres could get this guy.

If Pittsburgh could find a 2-way center to replace Staal on the 3rd line (Chris Kelly or Jarret Stoll, perhaps) then I think something along the lines of Staal for Skinner or a top pairing defenseman makes some sense for both teams.

Stumbled across this somehow

She certainly seems like a lot of fun to hang out with. Over/under 6 months before a sex tape leaks?

Of course, I'd imagine those are close to the last kind of pictures any father wants to see popping up on the internet.

Carolina isn't going to trade Skinner.

Perhaps not, but they're not getting Staal for Brandon Sutter either. Whatever they give up would have to be significant.

cam ward.

I thought Jordan wanted to go to a team where he could be the top centre. He would not be that with Carolina, although maybe the family reunion would make up for that

I think he wants to be in the top-6 more so than any desire to be the clear #1 (and neither of these is happening in Pittsburgh). Plus as you said, playing with his brother would mean something.

Well at least not until Sidney ends up cucoo-for-cocoapuffs again.

Montreal may be buying out Gomez's contract.

Marc Bergevin new Habs GM.

Montreal should just bury him in the AHL. Get rid of the whole cap hit and take a shorter time to get out of the contract.

Gomez and Drury should be monuments to Free Agency foolishness.

For the right price they would. There may be a few "untouchables" in the league, I doubt Skinner is one of them.

Depends on what the teams objectives are and the player. I'd say the Sabres consider Myers untouchable.

There are still two years left on Wade Redden's contract from 2008 as well.

Boy, Sather could spend. Only 9 years left on Richards contract too.

For the right price, sure, anyone can be moved. But does it make sense to trade a 19 year old with a 30- goal ROTY season and an impressive (tho injury-shortened) follow-up season under his belt for Staal? Not to me. I'd keep Skinner.

Staal is a hell of a player, but while many cite playing behind Malkin and Crosby as a detriment to his production, I feel it goes both ways. He plays against the weaker defense pairings, and though I don't watch enough Pens games to say it with certainty, he seems to get plenty of powerplay time -- I'm sure at least some of that is shared with one or two of the best players in the world.

It's a big risk for a guy with 1 year left on his contract and is due for a big raise.

Also, Tim Connolly has played more games in the last two years than Jordan Staal has.

Bad week for russians in the NHL playoffs.

Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn let team down in Nashville. (or did they?)

Kovy injured - team plays great.

Ovechkin used like offensive specialist even though he wears the "C" .
