darksabre Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 Luongo willing to waive his NTC... http://www.nhl.com/i...s.htm?id=629476 Those comments from him really blow my mind. He's basically saying "If you want to give Cory the job, he can have it." Absolutely no desire to compete for that starting job. What GM wants a goalie that is completely chill about not playing? Dude should just retire if that's going to be his attitude.

Just like we said last night: Islanders.

darksabre Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 Just like we said last night: Islanders. My head would explode. He'll be a Leaf soon. The odds of this happening are so high I can't even begin to take it as a joke. It really could happen. That fanbase would go ape.
shrader Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I could see Chicago getting in on those talks.
darksabre Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I could see Chicago getting in on those talks. I don't know. I think Crawford is a good goalie who maybe had a bad year. I don't see them bailing on Crawford for Luongo, a goalie who they probably already consider to be a headcase.

That reminds of last year's playoffs when he took a similar "meh, whatever, let Cory play" attitude. I remember one of the analysts (maybe, JR on NBC or one of the NHL Tonight guys) calling him out saying that nobody wants a goalie who doesn't want to compete.

People can say what they want about Miller and/or Enroth, but one thing is clear: they both want to start. That's a good thing, for now.
X. Benedict Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I'm not sure what to make of Luongo's comments. Locker clean-out is a pretty emotional day. These guys are human. They don't always think everything through.
JJFIVEOH Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Luongo was a sluff when he played in FL and he hasn't changed. His attitude sucks and that's why FL had no problem getting rid of him. Every Panthers fan knew what Vancouver was getting themselves into when they got him. Nobody down here could believe Vancouver gave him that insane contract.

X. Benedict Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Predators General Manager David Poile, Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues and Dale Tallon of the Florida Panthers have been named finalists for the GM of the Year award. Pacioretty, Joffrey Lupul, Alfredsson are the finalists for the Masterton Trophy. I think it is Lupul and Armstrong.

They don't always think everything through. Luongo is saying he's not gonna be a backup in Van. He's a very good goalie and he carried the Nucks for 3 months when the team was playing poorly. He's a starter and so is CS. The writing was on the wall when he wasn't chosen to start the final 2 games of the playoffs.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about his attitude, he seemed to want to put the team first and thats all I would ask of a player. I'd have said yes to that contract so thats not his fault.
spndnchz Posted April 25, 2012 Author Report Posted April 25, 2012 Gerbe NOT playing for Team USA anymore. Injury.

Or he knows when his beaten, it's obvious to the league the Nucks don't want him so he might be saying his willing to go where he will be a starter. Interesting to see where he goes. Maybe even an trade involving Luongo and Nash. Nash on the RW of the Sedins could be pretty dangerous.
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Gerbe NOT playing for Team USA anymore. Injury. did he pull something golfing? or is it a nagging injury from the season?
RazielSabre Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 did he pull something golfing? or is it a nagging injury from the season? Stupid question, how does a guy with about 6 regular season goals get on teamUSA?
Eleven Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Stupid question, how does a guy with about 6 regular season goals get on teamUSA? It's not the real Team USA. It's a team put together for this silly summer tournament.

Possibly retiring, rather than return for season #17. Wow, I didn't realize he's been around so long.
LastPommerFan Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 He'll be a Leaf soon. I don't know about the leafs, they've got themselves in a bit of a Cap Jam to add even a $5M contract. 6 of their 7 highest paid players have NTCs and the 7th is the captain.

That said, most of those NTC/NMC's are pretty weak for the players. Some NMC's are only in the last year of their contract and one says that if they miss the playoffs it's pretty much null and void. That said, I don't see Burke selling anyone but Schenn.

Eleven Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012  good question which summer tournament btw? is it the same one Vanek would('ve) played in? IIHF World Championship and probably. It's a silly tournament because no legit world championship would have its tournament at the same time that the dominant club league in the world has its playoffs. It would be the equivalent of having the soccer World Cup coincide with the Champions League quarters, semis, and finals. Hockey's real international tournament is the Olympics. Respectfully, I don't think Gerbe gets a shot at that team USA!
