JJFIVEOH Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Nash is signed through 2018. I agree with you, I think this team needs some older vet players. Every team needs a couple of mid 30's players to keep everybody in check. Just not sure if it worth giving up a lot for one on top of paying him $7 mil. But, that's just me. ;)

I wouldn't pay $7 mil/year for a mid 30s player to keep guys in check, either... but I'd pay it to Iginla for everything he brings, which is more than a just babysitting uncle. He's worth it if a team is close enough and can get him under the cap. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and all the different story lines should make for a fun summer--- though not as fun as we all hoped :(

I think last year it was pretty obvious what needed to be addressed. But after what happened this year, I really don't know what to expect. After that trade with Vancouver and more freedom with Pegula here, maybe Regier will have some balls after all! Should be interesting for sure.
Cereal Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but Florida is poised to win the SE Division with fewer wins than everyone but Carolina, and fewer Regulation wins that everyone. That might be the best case to change the points system. Just saw this one... interesting. Final standings: Team Pts W ROW Florida 94 38 32 Wash 92 42 38 TB 84 38 35 Winny 84 37 33 Canes 82 33 32 As one poster noted, the only teams with less regulation losses are PIT and NYR, so there are two ways of looking at it. Really, to me it just shows that they keep a lot of their games close, and that's pretty much it.

Punch Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 It could be worse, you know. MUCH WORSE... We thought we got rid of him once before, but he came back with a vengeance like Freddy Krueger... no one hates the slug logo more than I do, but I'd rather see the slug rear it's ugly head-type-thing than 'ol Quinnie! That is one encore I won't stay for!
X. Benedict Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 The save % stat goes to the point about goaltenders and the idea you don't need to pay top dollar. The difference in talent just isn't that great between the those goalies considered to be the top tier guys and those goalies maybe a notch or two below. I've heard this said before. Independent of the Sabres I think this is a crazy idea. There is a huge, huge, drop-off in talent. And I think most hockey people would agree. In the NHL there are probably 20 guys that can start 50 games a year. Of those, maybe 15 belong there. There is a huge drop off between the top goalies - that is - guys that can play 50 games a year and adjust their game to give there team a chance to win every night. Coaches can play poker with marginal goalies and get decent save percentage numbers over 20 to 30 games, but not over 50 . These are guys that will get cracked in time.
Punch Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Iginla not interested in rebuilding with Flames: However, the long-time Flames captain said he doesn't want to be a part of a team that is going through a complete overhaul. "Do I want to rebuild? Do I want to be on a team if we're going to fully rebuild? I don't know if I do," snip "I think Calgary is a very good organization, I think they treat us all well as players and I do think there's a lot of good things going ... Do I want to fully rebuild? I'd be lying to you if I said that I do." Iginla has one year remaining on his contract with a salary cap hit of $7 million and the Flames have six pending unrestricted free agents this summer: Olli Jokinen, David Moss, Lee Stempniak, Tom Kostopoulos, Cory Sarich and Scott Hannan. Their pending restricted free agents include Mikael Backlund, Blake Comeau and Akim Aliu. "I don't know what next year holds." Iginla said. "(Management and ownership) have to decide what direction they want to go." http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2012/04/09/nhl_jarome_iginla_calgary_flames_roster_2012_2013/
darksabre Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 If Iginla were to come here for a year, what role would he serve? Replace Drew Stafford?
Punch Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 If Iginla were to come here for a year, what role would he serve? Replace Drew Stafford? I would guess a theoretical trade for Iginla may include Stafford going back. I'd also hope he'd be a Sabre beyond one season. I think the Sabres will at least be on the phone if he were to realistically be shopped. He has a lot to offer this roster, IMHO.

Claude_Verret Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=392736 Tom Anselmi, the team's chief operating officer, has pledged to speak with every single ticket holder that has concerns. "This is about winning, this is about doing right by your fans, this is what we're all into this for," said Anselmi. "Sports is a business, yeah, but it's a business based on emotion and passion and caring. These fans they care, they give a ######. They're paying with after-tax dollars. :w00t: Edit: I guess that I should have known the filter would grab that, but I think everyone can figure it out.

X. Benedict Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 I listened to it live. Along with that he said he turned down three first round picks for 3 of his players. Why on earth would he disclose that publicly? (That he refused to deal Mac for a 1st) Maybe it is to create a market...I can't see Mac being a Randy Carlyle player.

Eleven Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 3 years in a row now. I was going to start a separate thread for the conspiracy theory, but let's not bother with that. Let's have it all here.
