I was thinking about that one too. Was that one at home or the road? The thought of Sylvester sending that line out onto the ice AFTER Buffalo put their guys out there would drive me mad.

Game took place in Buffalo.

Yep. Ruff took one look at who Murray had out there, recalled his line, and sent Peters, Mair, and Kaleta over the boards. It was great.

man - that is sticking it in their eye.

It was definitely sticking it in their eyes. Briere, Ryan, and I think Roy were out there--perhaps as a lure, perhaps not--and Ruff made the change once Murray's line was set. If you look at about 2:20 of this version of the video, you'll see it:

The Penguins are good at hockey. They're the best team in the East when healthy, and I don't even think it's really that close. Assuming they avoid major injuries, I'd be shocked if they weren't in the Finals, and probably winning another Cup.

Panthers break their season low in shots on goal in consecutive games, and won them both. Exciting.................

And if BFLO happens to sneak into the playoffs, they're probably going to be playing them.

I'd at least give us a puncher's chance against the Rangers. But assuming the Penguins get into the #1 slot, short of getting Malking and Crosby deported or something, there's no way we'd even get to 6 games with them. That team is just on another level right now.

NY, Boston, Pitt, Philly all scrumming for the top spot. It doesn't matter, as that as who we have quoted all year as the top teams that we fall so short of.

You have a 3rd division champion every year.....and Ottawa on the come now. Next year, you are shooting for 6th place....and have Ottawa and NJ as competition at a minnimum. That's the scary part.

Winnipeg lost, Ottawa lost, Florida won. We need to catch Washington. Ottawa is coming back to earth after a month of stellar play. They could fall off the table, and I would love it. They have been winning this whole season with smoke and mirrors. We really need the rangers to hold on to the 1 seed, because Pitt will sweep us.

Meh, I still don't think we're far at all from the Rangers. We finished better than them the past 2 years, and suddenly they're super far ahead of us? I don't buy it, and every time I watch them I'm left distinctly unimpressed for a team that's held the #1 spot most of the season. Philly in their current state is in trouble due to injuries on D, although Bryzgalov has apparently stopped sucking--I wouldn't pick us to beat them, but I could see a 6 game series. Boston is clearly a better team than us, but I don't see them getting out of the second round unless they score a very favorable matchup. Pittsburgh, as I said, is just on an entirely higher level.

1. I love it that you're looking at that first-round matchup (and I agree with your analysis). MATCHUPS ARE EVERYTHNG in the first two rounds.

2. I hate Ottawa and I have this sickness where I'd rather take them down with us than see them in. That's my problem, and yeah, it's a problem.

3. Again, agreed: the Sabres take the Rangers in seven, but not PIttsburgh.

I feel another bet coming on.......I would be willing to wager my future daughter's virginity against a 6 pack of Golden Anniversary on your part that the Sabres do not beat the Rangers in a playoff series this year.

Boston is beatable too if we could somehow get to the 7 seed. We're like Rocky in his second fight against Clubber Lang. You're not so bad!

Well, first, the Sabres have to get there. Second, I'm probably going to take your consideration on the bet away, anyway. (Would ya get busy already? I want to get this done before I'm 60.)

So let's stick to next year and the WNY Food Bank vs. EC SPCA.

I love when a Rocky comparison fits so perfectly  . If we beat Boston I'd be totally okay losing to the hockey equivalent of Tommy Gunn in a street fight (and yes, I know I skipped a move and altered the ending of another one).

I can't believe it's been five years since this happened. Even worse, nothing to really show for it since then.

Boston didn't beat Buffalo in a second-round knockout! It's more Apollo Cree.

1st fight with Creed was a 12 or was it 15 round decision. No way.

The reference really wasn't to previous series, but to Lucic specifically and the big bad bruins generally as Clubber Lang, and the hit on miller as he first fight. After a few rounds, The Sabres have gotten over the fear of just being in the ring with him. Now they are ready to fight and believe they can win.

I feel so bad for Malkin. Guy drops a 5pt night and the headline is "Crosby's 4 assists lead Pens over Jets". Apparently 2g and 3a is not that good... nor is taking over the lead for most pts in the NHL. Malkin is such a great player, wonder if washington has realized they drafted the wrong russian in 04?

To Evgeni Malkin! The most overshadowed player in the NHL.
