I beg to differ but ping-ponging the d-man into the goalie seems to be one of Kaleta's signature moves. He did it to Chara a few weeks back and the big goon came back to flatten him.

Kaleta was hammered by Edler into Schneidef. Kaleta was coming late looking for a rebound, clearly stopping when Edler demolished him into the goalie. No malicious intent from 36 at all.

Huh. Crosby coming back Thursday vs Rangers. Huh.

-looks for shoulder shrug emoticon to no avail.

How many games before he's out again?

apparently the NHL euro-games are cancelled due to CBA debacle. link

They talked about this on the Hot Stove last weekend. Basically it came down to the issue that the league and NHLPA split the costs of the trip, and the PA didn't want to be on the hook for it if the owners locked them out.

I don't foresee a lockout this time (I know that wasn't your point). The status quo is what the owners want and is what the league needs. I could see a strike, though. Fehr is a problem.

I actually see a lockout, just don't know if it will cost games. I think the owners want closer to a 50/50 HRR split, much like the NFL and NBA owners got in their new CBAs. In fact I'd be quite shocked if there wasn't a major owners push for that.

And yes, Fehr sucks.

It was actually the Hot Stove guys who mentioned the lockout as part of the reasoning behind killing the Euro games. And Fehr scares the ###### out of me. He has no problem with killing part or all of a season if it means making sure the players get every concession and every last dime.

I don't see it going down that way. I hope I'm right on that, and I also hope that there's no strike. Basically, this CBA is good for everyone. It should just be extended. But someone will get greedy (someone always does), and my bet is that it will be Fehr who does so. And not necessarily out of the best interests of his constituency, either. Could it be the big-market teams wanting to rid the league of the cap? Sure. But I don't think so; a couple of them have won the Cup recently even with a cap. I see Fehr making trouble, just as he did with realignment, just for the sake of furthering whatever "legend" he thinks he owes himself.

The owners have the leverage at the beginning of the season, the players at the end.

Having been burned by the 1st player strike at the end of the season in '92, I don't see the owners ever allowing the players to get that leverage again. If there isn't a deal in place by the beginning of the season there will be a lockout.

I agree fully with the bolded.

Apparently Ovechkin was involved in a huge collision during practice and is currently being evaluated by the medical staff. This is all while Backstrom is skating and might return soon, which I think would have sealed the Sabres' fate. But if Ovechkin misses some time, there's still hope baby!

 That's terrible, he was starting to turn his season around.

 That's great! Hopefully this will derail their run!
