Bullwinkle Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 yes, i see that. And i understand why you like Yandle and Hanzal. I'll even give you Doan over Vanek since we have to give them something in the deal just from a hockey standpoint. My objection is that it is wildly unrealistic to think that a franchise bleeding money is going to take on all that salary while giving up younger, cheaper talent like yandle and hanzal. Basically you are asking them to trade doan (face of the franchise), yandle (best player last season) and hanzal (rare legit center with size) for Vanek and two defensemen who yes are promising but very unproven. Yeah, you are throwing in pommer and boyes to even it out hockey-wise, but you know they are unlikely part of the future for them and the reality is the pricetag on those guys is just doing us a favor and getting them very little return. (not to mention they just took on 3 wingers while giving up a center and not getting one back ... It may be "fair" but i am not sure it really makes them better.) If this trade were ever to truly happen, a lot more names will be banted about. I'm sure we could satisfy the concerns of Phx for little real cost to us, plus giving them a 2nd pick in a very deep draft next year. Phx is looking for a stable ice product in an unstable environment. Yandle doesn't want to play there for that reason, so they are going to have to deal with that situation. This is just one way. Boyes & Vanek would provide stability and an improvement over Doan, plus hope for the future in the Dmen and the pick. Meanwhile we would get a future center, an established wing, and a future all star Dman.
Bullwinkle Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Where were the Sabres ranked offensively last season? Where do you expect them to be this year with a healthy DR, an improved power play, Ville Leino as a potential true 1 center and Ehroff? I like Doan but he is 1. old 2. would never leave and 3. his numbers are not that awesome. He has no upside. Hanzal is all potential.. Yandle i got to give you but that trade takes a lot less firepower to do. The Sabres offense will not be substantially affected by the substitution of Doan for Vanek. So if the new additions increase the offense, that shouldn't change. Doan is old, which is one reason Phx would like to get something for him while he's still viable. He provides us veteran leadership that can produce. Plus he's good in the locker room. Hanzal has great potential to be a top notch 1st line center and is approaching the standard breakout year - his fourth. The kid is huge. Yandle speaks for himself and what he's saying is that he doesn't want to play in Phx. As to Doan and his NTC, well like I said before, that is another issue entirely. Certainly that would have to be addressed before this trade is even considered. I'm speaking hypothetically.
26CornerBlitz Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 DarrenDreger Darren Dreger I'm hearing Keith Yandle has agreed to an extension. 5 years, $26.5 mil. https://twitter.com/#!/DarrenDreger So much for this idea!!!

Given that Vanek has many years left and 80-90 pt and 50 goal potential with a 1 center and a top five pp, thats a lot of potential offense leaving ,especially when you include Pom and Boyes potential numbers. It does not come back with your guys. It is all mute anyway.. looks like Yandle is gone.. And doan was never in the mix. THANKS FOR AN INTERESTING ORIGINAL THOUGHT AND A FUN THREAD, RARE HERE. A potential line of Hanzel, Yandle and Gretel is still rolling around in here. I need to find a NHLer named Gretel.
Warriorspikes51 Posted July 5, 2011 Author Report Posted July 5, 2011 well this idea is a failure.... great contract for PHX!
Bullwinkle Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 well this idea is a failure.... great contract for PHX! Failure? We'd have the Cup within 2 years, I think.
Warriorspikes51 Posted July 5, 2011 Author Report Posted July 5, 2011 Failure? We'd have the Cup within 2 years, I think. haha well they aren't trading him now, especially with that contract...it's a bargain for him. It should at least help us with Myers contract though.

Usually (at least in my $ fantasy league where players have contracts and there is a cap limit) I make some really creative deals, sometimes involving 10-12 players. You have to study all the major players in the NHL for this league so it keeps me up to speed with what most of them offer.
