PromoTheRobot Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Can't we all just be happy that the Sabres are players for once and stop overanalyzing this signing? It's getting a little ridiculous in here. "Happy" is just another word for settling for 40 years of mediocrity. Unless we all mercilessly criticize and over-analyze every decision by the front office, we'll never win a cup. We hate because we care. (edit: this is sarcasm.) PTR
drnkirishone Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Some people here remind me of a scene in 2 and a half men where Charlie is showing Alan how their mother can turn anything into a negative. Thats not to say I don't like hearing another viewpoint then the happy happy joy joy one. But as SDS said at some point you have to step back from the constant comments. I mean if you came home and every day your neighbor came up to you and complained about the person across the street eventually you would stop talkng to them
Eleven Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 J _ A L O _ S "Pat, I'd like to buy a vowel." No, it's _nn_y_d.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 No, it's _nn_y_d. I think in this thread it is easy to identify those who want to constructively converse and make this a better place, and those who have agendas and constantly repeat a meme. It is obvious some people are more interested in defamation than actually reading the content of this board. If anyone has paid any attention whatsoever over the past 2 weeks, you would see that some things are a little different. Then again, maybe these people have, but are more worried about creating a perception about certain people on this board instead of worrying about their own ideas they bring to the table. Maybe some here should take a cue from Taro. Instead of moaning about posters, why don't you attempt to identify a weakness in their opinion/idea/arguement and then present your own well thought out case and support it. I'd take some of you a lot more seriously if you actually displayed some in-depth knowledge about the hockey team you claim to cherish so much and are so offended when their weaknesses are exposed by people. Instead, when you are presented with a challenge, sometimes wrapped in hyperbole as Scott likes to say, you ignore the 97% serious matter being discussed and try to discredit the poster because of their means of delivery. By doing so, it is you who is the one offering something of little to no value and who continues to impede the progress of this board. I also find it ironic that those who have been identified as the most negative and attention seeking,(PA,DeLuca,Weave, myself), rarely post in the complaint thread, and when we do...it is usually in support of someone or in trying to find a constructive solution to an existing problem. The very poster who claims that these people are looking for personal attention and are negative has posted themselves....My job sucks, My boss sucks, The city I live in sucks, The people of the city I live in sucks, My car sucks, Drivers suck, It sucks not having a job, My new job sucks. Well then.....sounds like you are just one big ol' bowl of sunshine! While Weave,DeLuca,PA,myself are found supporting in a positive manner when real life is concerned, and constructively criticize the hockey team, everything else in the world seems to suck to you. The only real personal attention complaint by any of us had to do with a massive herpes outbreak.....and those things tend to happen when you party with the big dogs. Maybe you should take a cue from your beloved Coach For Life's system, and worry about your own role and responsibility first. If you can't make a compelling or valid case, or aren't able to entertain others while doing so......don't be a hater. I don't have a bunch of hot, bi-curious friends.....but that doesn't mean I hate Chz for it. I take it for what it is worth and enjoy the show.
SwampD Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 I think in this thread it is easy to identify those who want to constructively converse and make this a better place, and those who have agendas and constantly repeat a meme. [i wrote a book] I say this as an alternate on Team Stormcloud, everyone on here has some kind of agenda and repeats a meme, yourself included. And I don't think I would try to read anything from the Complaint Thursday thread. It doesn't mean anything and wasn't supposed to.
Campy Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 "Happy" is just another word for settling for 40 years of mediocrity. Unless we all mercilessly criticize and over-analyze every decision by the front office, we'll never win a cup. We hate because we care. PTR That whole "settling" argument was worn out and tired about 9 years ago on TSW. What people who play that that card miss is that it would only be "settling" if it the choices and decisions were ours to make. I'm not above venting when my team or player X annoys me, but I'm not sure it's fair to accuse others who don't feel the same way - or those who don't feel as strongly about it - as somehow selling out their principles. But then again, I'm not one of those guys that feels the need to constantly tell the world I know better. Nor do I believe that same tired people regurgitating the same tired stuff about things over which they have no control on an internet message board really does much other than display a stunning lack of emotional development. But that's just my opinion.
R_Dudley Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 I have been here awhile and I just have to say this is the best board ever. Where else could you find a well reasoned and pretty civil debate on the ettiquette and ethics of message board debating. Favorite SNL retort comes to mind from CC, why Jane you ignorant slut I for one really enjoy the width and breadth of the discussions and personalties on this site and the way it challenges me. I would attempt to participate in depth more if other priorties (work and family)didn't need to come first but I don't have the time to prepare before hand and because of the quality of knowledgeable posters I feel you need to do your homework and come prepared to really join into alot of the meat of these discussions. So my comments typically are kept light. So this dedicated voyeur says thank you whether your considered or a self proclaimed miscreant or pollyanna and keep up the good work. Oh and PA please just come home, we still love you.

And I don't think I would try to read anything from the Complaint Thursday thread. It doesn't mean anything and wasn't supposed to. There is a difference between hockey related and poster related agendas. If team "Stormcloud" stopped posting it would leave a group of posters here nothing to talk about. At least until they found and converged on another mark. Could you image the uproar if the roles were reversed?

And I don't think I would try to read anything from the Complaint Thursday thread. It doesn't mean anything and wasn't supposed to. I would admit I had an agenda when Larry Quinn was here. Trying to expose ownership for only worrying about money and playing the fans in any way possible to secure their financial future. I was attacked for that as well. Now it is almost biblical in nature that he and Golisano were evil. And I understand the nature of the complaint thread, but was pointing out 1 person who decided to make a blanket statement about a few posters. In "real life" I would much rather hang with people who don't bitch and moan about every little facet that they have direct control over. It's one thing to complain about a hockey team where your only direct control is your own wallet and you are trying to make others who may be entrenched in loyalty, aware of weakness or deception. The only means of communication here is writing, so some things need to be repeated as the same question or topic comes up time and time again. If it was only the same 40 people locked in a bar for the year, eventually everyone would know everyone else's deal and shut up. When the game is on, me and DeLuca would be playing pool as we watch the game in our periphery, while some others would be making out at the rainbow bar in their Pominville jerseys after every goal in a preseason game against Edmonton.

We don't agree on the Quinn/ownership role yet we can coexist and the conversation never turned ugly or personal.

Oh and PA please just come home, we still love you. You are always one of the best balanced posters. And I don't care if someone posts "I like cake", or writes War and Peace every now and then. If it's what you feel...it's what you feel. I just was pointing out to a select few who seem to be more worried about other posters instead of the subject matter at hand and fortifying their own opinions. I'm sure a lot of people don't even read what I say many times just because of the length and structure. That's cool. I like jazz, horseracing, and non-caucasian women. I'm not worried about consensus when it comes to my opinion.

We don't agree on the Quinn/ownership role yet we can coexist and the conversation never turned ugly or personal. We have been on total opposite sides many times. Especially back a few years. Same with PA. I am on total opposite sides with my friends on a lot having to do with the Sabres. When someone starts praising Ruff, I give them a look like they are about to drink a pitcher of tap water in the middle of Mexico to wash down a plate of slightly pink chicken. Then 20 seconds later we are checking out the thong on the waitress together.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 I need to see some pics of these non-caucasian wimmins. Lots of pics. On a related note to the hot sauce thread, I almost married a Trini girl and her mom made homemade scotch bonnet sauce. It was the greatest thing ever. Both of them were such good cooks, it made it tough to split. Although her favorite player was Darcy Tucker. Also knew a girl from Uruguay and her family owned the best deli/dive in the world. Flank steaks with chimichurri sauce, sweetbreads, blood sausage...and free beer! And my motto is, if you want to party, get a Brazilian...if you want a date, get an Argentinian...and if you want a wife, find a Columbian. Terry Pegula didn't do so bad himself.
