inkman Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Who cares? Let's find out if they do. Nothing bad happens to us if they match the offer. I didn't say don't try, I just can't imagine a scenario where they don't match. Quite honestly, I can't believe a deal isn't already done between him and Tampa.

cmjoyce113 Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Are there rules about how many employees an NHL team can have? How much do you think mrs. Regher and mrs. Ehrhoff are making this year? Or am I way off base?
SabresFan526 Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Why? It's within the confines of the current cap rules, both in numbers and years. I fully agree, but I think it makes people realize that the settlement was hollow, the NHL did very little to avoid the perception of cap circumvention. And as Carp has eluded to for a Richards deal, no reason we couldn't establish a similar front-loaded contract. I had to laugh, one tweet said 'that contract is so front-loaded it has a hemi.' Between you and Pommerfan, I believe you. Hey, like I said, I don't care. It seemed a bit too front loaded and cap circumventing, but whatever. If it's not, even better. I'm just excited. I assume there is either an NMC or an NTC? Does anyone know that part? If not, this might be the greatest contract in history.
Braedon Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Per Bob McKenzie at TSN: Year 1 = $8 mil. signing bonus + $2 mil. salary Year 2 = $5 mil. signing bonus + $3 mil. salary Year 3-6 = $4 mil. salary Year 7 = $3 mil. salary Year 8-10 = $1 mil. salary (obviously, the controversy is over the last 3 years...) Cap hit = $4 mil. per year There's nothing wrong with the last 3 years, they are perfectly legal
IKnowPhysics Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Anyone following live feed? Much of the Hockey universe is calling this an illegal circumventing of the cap ala Kovalchuk. Can't help that the PA has bigger teeth than Gary's office. The best part about this contract is we just played hardball like the big boys. Some bitter people out there. What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge criticism? No, Terry. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, YOU WON'T HAVE TO.

So if he insists on playing at age 39 or 40, or if his production drops off, Congrats Amerks, you get a very veteran defenseman.
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 holy crap. i got out to play some ultimate with my buds and not only is erhoff confirmed, but it's a beauty of a contract to boot! The rest of the NHL can kiss my blue and gold ass it's finally our time baby!!!
Alaska Darin Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 They have 18 million in cap space. They have some RFA's but if things get too hairy for them, they can unload Malone (who is already rumored as shopped), and if they have to move LeCavalier. They could get a a nice package of young players to fill out their roster. I don't think it has much to do with cap room - they aren't going to spend even close to the ceiling. I don't have any real information but I'd be surprised if they're closer to the ceiling than the floor.

bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 I imagine you are right but how in Gods name could they let him get away? Terry P!!!
CallawaySabres Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 "My goal is to win the Stanley Cup, and after the offer I received from Buffalo, I believe this is the best place to make it happen." http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=567901&navid=mod-rr-headlines Has ANYONE ever said that about the Bills OR Sabres.... EVER? I've never been this excited about an upcoming season in my life .... this is GREAT. This is quite possibly the best sports line I have ever read in my 40 years of existence....Happy 41st to me AND the Buffalo Sabres!!!!
Alaska Darin Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 I imagine you are right but how in Gods name could they let him get away? I'd like to see us try. I really would. Make them make a decision in panic. Darcy said in his PC: "We have a few forward roles in mind" for free agency. I imagine work is going to be terribly unproductive tomorrow!
LastPommerFan Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 @TSNBobMcKenzie: BUF's 10-year, $40M contract with Christian Ehrhoff does not violate any aspect of the CBA is a valid deal in the eyes of the NHL.
Alaska Darin Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Please don't wake me.... Oh my god No kidding, brother. No kidding.
R_Dudley Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 "My goal is to win the Stanley Cup, and after the offer I received from Buffalo, I believe this is the best place to make it happen."http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=567901&navid=mod-rr-headlines Has ANYONE ever said that about the Bills OR Sabres.... Let's go Buff'a'lo tomorrow's deal seals the message to the rest of the league that we have arrived. Drinks on me everyone,   .
eball Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 I've never been one to get excited about the NHL offseason (hope that doesn't mean I'm not a big enough fan) but Pegulapalooza has me soiling myself. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.
Braedon Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge criticism? No, Terry. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, YOU WON'T HAVE TO. Neo aint go Sh%t on TP.

Can't help that the PA has bigger teeth than Gary's office. The best part about this contract is we just played hardball like the big boys. Some bitter people out there. Wait till after tomorrow, the hockey world outside of Buffalo will really be whining. I think we still have over $7 million of cap space.
sabresnutinphoenix Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Is it possible that we can say that the problems the Sabres have had can't totally be blamed on Darcy!!! It seems Pegula is allowing Darcy do what he wants to do...
26CornerBlitz Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 From EJ Hradek Sorry Sabres fans, spending 40 million on a second pair D doesn't have me thinking Stanley Cup. Then again ... #notmymoney! Typical ESPN Buffalo hater!!! FU EJ!!! It's our day and we're not even done yet!!!
Alaska Darin Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Is it possible that we can say that the problems the Sabres have had can't totally be blamed on Darcy!!! It seems Pegula is allowing Darcy do what he wants to do... I don't think there's any question the previous regime tied his hands. Pegula has hit a bunch of home runs in his short tenure - keeping Regier may not be one yet but it's looking solid right now.
carpandean Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Anyone know when signing bonuses are paid? Is he getting an $8M check tomorrow or does he have to wait until October?
inkman Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 From EJ Hradek Sorry Sabres fans, spending 40 million on a second pair D doesn't have me thinking Stanley Cup. Who thinks of contracts like this anymore, especially these types of contracts. It's $4 million a year dude.
