BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 If that really is the deal, the old Darcy who made deals like the ones that landed Briere and Gilmour/Dumont is back. That's an absolute fleecing. Not to take anything away from Darcy, but to call it "a fleecing" is a bit of a reach. Seems to me like a good deal for both sides. Calgary dumps 7 million in salary and picks up two solid (and inexpensive) prospects. Sabres get a proven stay-at-home veteran D-Man for 5 mil. In one of the most honest interviews with an athlete I can remeber, Rhett Warrener basically said RR was a great fit for Buffalo and he needed a change in scenery because he had become "stale" playing there. Win-Win for both sides.
Eleven Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 That is a great price for the Sabres. Regier did a really good job on this trade. He did. The 180 or so pounds that Regier lost in February is going to change his whole game as a GM.

That puts the Sabres in a position of strength that probably 25 other teams can't have. Other teams bad contracts can become assets for us in a trade.

LastPommerFan Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 One man gathers what another man spills... And as of last night, they can get married.
Lanny Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 For 1, if it's this years 2nd then that's not huge in this years draft. For 2, is Byron really an asset? It's basically Butler, whom has shown flashes of greatness for a proven vet and a salary dump. I don't think it's crazy at all. They traded their 2nd this year for Boyes, so it'd have to come from a future draft.
bunomatic Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 The only place this deal seems to be official is here. Can't find it on the sabres website. Can't find it on T.S.N. Let's hope it becomes official. Haven't tried N.H.L.com

bunomatic Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Buffalo News and WGR websites have it. If it was official it'd be all over the sabres site. Something seems a little off. Lets hope. I'm excited but cautiously.
Weave Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Holy cow. I'm just waking up to a rough morning after a long night on Bourbon St. and I ger this for news. I'm excited. Byron and Butler are marginal NHL talents IMO. I'm happy with this swap. I see Kotalik getting a buyout and Regehr solidifies another D pair. This is a big money team takes advantage of money strapped team kind of deal. I am a happy man. Now, what's with the 2nd round pick? Did I miss something lese? We don't have a 2nd rd pick this year, rigth?

I agree with Buno that it isn' t official yet. Otherwise we'd know both sides to this trade without any speculation. I think his waiving the NMC is the news, and that the trade is still being finalized. But since his agent confirmed the waiver, I'm at least confident in that. ESPN Story Weave: it's for a 2nd in 2012.
bunomatic Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 I would feel more comfortable if it were official, too. It just has a fax machine fiasco kind of feel to it.lol
Weave Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 From that Calgary Herald link posted earlier; “I couldn’t find anyone to say anything bad about Buffalo,” Regehr said earlier in the day. “Everyone enjoyed the people, the city. Nobody said anything negative about the city.”

Braedon Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 It just has a fax machine fiasco kind of feel to it.lol  I don't think it's that. The news came down so late and in the middle of a draft.

spndnchz Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 The Sabres gave qualifying offers to all of their RFA's except Butler. That should tell you something.
Taro T Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 I was being sincere. I think if he's mentally ready to accept a veteran role in the AHL, I think it's a great acquisition to show Amerks fans that Pegula wins everdaydayallthetimeateverylevel. I definitely shouldn't stay up to 1AM working off 3 hours sleep the previous night. If he is willing to go to Ra-cha-cha, you're right, he'll be very helpful there. And he spent a lof of time in the 'A' last year, so I'd expect he'd be ok w/ it. It'll be interesting to see whether he ends up there, bought out, or 'loaned' to a European team.
dEnnis the Menace Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Wow. Went to bed hearing he wasn't waiving...for now Wake up tO this?! Sweet. This has the makings of a good offseason!
