These poor Calgary fans, it goes from general anger over trading a popular player, to hopeful optimism when rumor of an Ennis/Armia return comes up, then back to anger and "Eklund was... right?" after McKenzie's tweet.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but look at the words Calgary fans are saying

Good thing I checked back before bed. If this is TPegs doing, I don't know what to say except we are the luckiest fans in the NHL to have him.

Sounds like a fan favorite for flames fans . No doubt it'll be the same in Buff.

Kotalik will be sent packing by the Sabres. That part is Calgary wanting salary dumped. Who'd have ever thunk that the Sabres would be the team taking on a salary dump?? Love the new owner!

Actually, it is just another case where Darcy gets way too attached to his own players, so he had to bring Alice back. :D

After reading the TSN article and seeing Kotalik is involved, this must be some type of a joke on Buffalo. I guess they may need someone they can use in the shootout!

To be fair, it makes perfect sense. To trade Regher for Butler, Byron and a 2nd (if true) would be advantage Buffalo. Throwing in Kotalik actually makes the trade more fair as we, instead of Calgary, must eat the salary.

So, does anyone else think this increases the likelihood that Montador comes back?

Pairings could be

Regehr - Myers

Weber - Leopold

Sekera - Montador

spare - MAG

8th (Amerks vet) Morrisonn

I expect Regehr will be paired w/ either Myers or Leopold and Weber will be paired w/ the other. I don't see Morrisonn in the plans for next year (though that's obviously not a given) and I don't see them pairing 2 young offensive D together (Sekera & MAG). I guess they could pair Sekera w/ Leopold, but I'd really prefer to see Sekera paired w/ more of an all around or (even better) stay at home D-man.

If not Montador, I'd expect them to bring in somebody else in that mold.

Drew's getting the band back together.

There's no way we are shipping Butler, Byron, and a 2nd for Regehr and Kotalik. In fact, Kotalik is not an asset to the Sabres in this trade, he's strictly a salary dump for the Flames and will probably play in Rochester. So if you look at it that way, the trade would be Butler, Byron, 2nd rounder, and eating Koatlik's salary in exchange for Robyn Regehr. Horrible trade if its true - Calgary gets three solid assets and a salary dump and Buffalo gets only one good player? No way. I'm guessing Buffalo gets the 2nd from Calgary because Darcy isn't that stupid.

Question is...our center problem. Does this added salary take us out of the Richards Derby? If so, what other prominent centers are there to trade for? Thornton? Sharp?

Mags looked AWFULLY good when the bullets were flying. I'd start him over Montador or Sekara any day...

I think its a steal for us. Butler has shown us nothing, especially in the past Philly series. I understand hes younger but if we want a Stanley Cup soon then we shouldn't waiste out time developing Butler into an average player. Byron may end up being a solid goal scorer but he won't ever be an Ennis or even a Nathan Gerbe. Just be glad its not Adam we're giving up. And the second rounder doesn't bother me too much because it won't affect our team in the near future.

You are overvaluing that package big time. There is nothing there but marginal potential.

For 1, if it's this years 2nd then that's not huge in this years draft. For 2, is Byron really an asset? It's basically Butler, whom has shown flashes of greatness for a proven vet and a salary dump. I don't think it's crazy at all.

I just can't see them bringing Monty back after he was a healthy scratch in game 7. If they do though, I wonder if you might see Sekera sent packing as well. Under that situation, maybe the go with another vet signing for the 6/7 slot or they give Schiestel his shot at the big club. Then again, he probably does need one more year of seasoning after coming back from that knee injury.

I don't see us resigning Montador. Gragnani is too good of a offensive minded defenseman to be in Rochester. Morrison is gone, no question. But Weber is an RFA so he needs to be resigned.
