deluca67 Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Man, being jilted by a name player has everyone on edge. If there is a positive to be had it might be that Regehr's decision is a reality check. Pegula and Black have to realize there is a lot more work to be done then they thought. I know Regier has been out of the loop for many years, still, how is asking if Regehr is willing to waive his NMC not the first question in the trade negotiations?

Because that isn't the first thing that matters in trade negotiations. Whether or not the other GM accepts the deal is.
Braedon Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 I've moved on , however since SJ just traded for Burns, it's unlikely they'll throw their hat in the ring for RR.

Maybe Feaster told DR he could talk him into waiving it.

Pegula and Black have to realize there is a lot more work to be done then they thought. You have no idea what they thought. I don't know either, but I'd bet a lot of money that they were well aware that they were just starting the process. What they are trying to create is built through many steps, including all of the ones that you constantly mock. I doubt that they thought those early steps were all that they had to do. Early setbacks are to be expected.

Agreed, it is the first question once you make a tentative offer... called due dilligence. Know the answer to the question before you ask it. Or don't ask it.
Eleven Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 That's all right. Let it out. We are all disappointed that Regehr reportedly has turned down a chance to play in "Hockey Heaven." Interesting to note just when you joined the discussion...

shrader Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 And it is proof that Darcy is in fact trying to do things. Not only was he kicking the tires on a significant player, he also reached an agreement on that player. If this one has in fact fallen through, I highly doubt that he's just going to give up and not pursue anything else. There is more to come.
waldo Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Don't be snarky, you know what I meant. Bad attempt at humor..was not trying to be be snarky.... 4.3 mil ..a good year by any standard.. do you think he is working the money train a little
sabre snipe Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Flames fans seem pretty adamant that the rumoured deal was Regehr and Stajan for Adam our 1st rounder this year, and our second last year. Not that it could happen anymore, but they are pissed at regehr now for not waiving the NMC, as they feel this trade wouldve been grand larceny for them

Rome wasn't built in a day. If we can get a few steps closer before the season and get Rolling who knows what happens at the trade deadline as well.
SabresFan526 Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 From what I have read and heard, it does not appear that the Regehr thing is over. From what I have read so far, it appears that he needs a bit more time and wants to see if any offers come Calgary's way. To this point, the Sabres deal is the best to my understanding. He may still decide to nix the deal anyway, but I don't believe it's done just yet. I don't think the Sabres are done. I get a sense that they will be players this offseason and if Regehr does not come, I think the Sabres will try and go after Bieksa (if he is not re-signed) or Ehrhoff. I don't believe that the Sabres do not have a backup plan. This is a good UFA class for defenseman whereas a bad one for forwards specifically centers. This leads me to believe that the prize for the Sabres this offseason might just end up being Jason Spezza and Regehr is only the first piece of the puzzle that we are all talking about. Isn't fun to even be speculating on the Sabres actually being a player on trades and free agents this offseason? How long has it been since we were excited about the Sabres offseason and could speculate on big name players coming here? Pegula and Black are changing the culture and the offseason is a lot more fun than it has ever been in the past. Even if the Regehr thing doesn't work out, I'm excited because it shows the Sabres are trying and are serious about putting a winner together, which they haven't really done in the past number of offseasons.
nobody Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Maybe in the end - no one else gives a good offer and the Sabres can get an even better deal out of it.

If we can get a few steps closer before the season and get Rolling who knows what happens at the trade deadline as well. On Regeir's mind maybe, but is he really capable of pulling anything off that helps this team. Boyes wasn't the answer... Not sure the Calgary deal was either but it was fumbled so and now it isn't.
Finner Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Flames fan here. Just registered to give my two cents. I think you're severely underestimating the worth of Regehr. You are talking about a guy who narrowly missed the cut for the Canadian Olympic team which would make him a top 10 Canadian defenseman and probably a top 3 Canadian shutdown defenseman. I'd probably peg Regehrs worth at 2 mid to low first rounders and a conditional pick dependent on performance. His value is arguably higher then Kaberle who garnered a 1st rounder, Colbourne and a conditional. The reason why Flames fans would be so excited about a trade like that is because Stajan is a piece of lazy garbage in the western conference and has negative value to most Flames fans. Also the Flames in the past have floundered on determining weather they are rebuilding or making a run, and it finally felt like somebody had made a decision one way or the other. Our core continues to get older without any improvement year to year and no help in the pipeline. Regehr is a fantastic defenseman. Punished players, fast enough to stop players from getting around him while crushing them on the boards. In a highly skilled offensive eastern conference he would crush some of the smaller skilled forwards. Also rumored deal from insider on flames forum was Buffalo 1st (2011), 2nd (2012) and Adams for Regehr and Stajan

We don't need anymore lazy players.
shrader Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 The reports that Regehr hasn't officially shot down the deal would contradict that rumor though. If it is in fact still possible, that 1st round pick was probably never in play. But it is kind of funny how both fan bases say that the proposed deal was something that was highly stacked in their own team's favor.

I don't necessarily think Calgary Flames think a straight up 1st plus Adams would be a huge over payment, but it would be a welcome change to youth from an organization that has a knack for trading for/signing extremely old washed up players. Armia said his favorite team was the Flames so who knows.
sabre snipe Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Haha I was thinking the same thing, in our rumoured proposal, Darcy is a genius and feaster an idiot. In theirs it's the exact opposite lol
Finner Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 What is Stajan's cap hit? 3.5 million for four more years (ugh).

Buffalo's giving up an awful lot there and taking him on, more than anything, weighs down that deal.
