thesportsbuff Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Sorry if this is being discussed elsewhere... I figured it probably deserved it's own thread. Anyway I thought the show has been great so far, and very funny right from the get-go. I mean, the awards themselves can only provide so much entertainment, i think they've done a great job with their funny video skits and presentation in general. As for the awards... Norris (Outstanding Defenseman): Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit Red Wings Art Ross (Regular-Season Scoring Leader): Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks Mark Messier Leadership Award: Zdeno Chara, Boston Bruins Selke (Outstanding Defensive Forward): Ryan Kesler, Vancouver Canucks Jack Adams (Coach of the Year): Dan Bylsma, Pittsburgh Penguins Calder (Top Rookie): Jeff Skinner, Carolina Hurricanes Jennings (Fewest Goals Allowed): Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider, Vancouver Canucks General Manager: Mike Gillis, Vancouver Canucks Rocket Richard (Most Regular-Season Goals): Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks Ted Lindsay (MVP as Voted by Players): Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks Masterton (Perseverance and Dedication to Hockey): Ian Laperriere, Philadelphia Flyers King Clancy (Leadership and Humanitarian Contributions): Doug Weight, New York Islanders I think I forgot a few so anyone else watching feel free to chime in..
thesportsbuff Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 Although... these celebrities and such they have presenting the awards need some practice reading the telestrator hahaha. Criss Angel was awful. Lady Byng (Skillful and Gentlemanly Play): Martin St. Louis

FogBat Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Tim Thomas That guy has had such a phenomenal year.
darksabre Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 That guy has had such a phenomenal year. Not bad for an old guy post hip surgery. I blame yoga and that mustache.
rickshaw Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Anyone notice how J Toews looked when Sedin was announced the Art Ross winner and then Kesler? I know the Canucks and Hawks hate each other on the ice, but he had the snidest looks when they went up. I can see guys hating Kesler because he plays so hard and in your face, but Sedin? They are complete gentleman on and off the ice and I have a hard time seeing how you wouldn't like them as people. Shocked they didn't win the humanitarian award or whatever it was called. They donated something like $1.5 million last year to a local charity and tried to keep it quiet but the charity announced it. Anyway, thought that Weber deserved the Norris. I wonder if they'll change the name of that trophy to the Lidstrom, he's won it so many times.

That place is a godsend if you have a sick child. The Sedins are a class act.

But as players i can see why some might not like them. I dont pretend to watch a lot of west coast hockey, but watching them this playoff run I grew to dislike their play. They are constantly faking injuries and crying to the officials. It's the same reason some people dont like crosby. Yes I know the Sedins arent the only superstars to do that, but I'm saying its a reason other players might not like them.

Speaking of name changes, when did they change the name of the Lester Pearson award? With all these names out there, it's hard to believe there's no Gretzky award yet. That probably would have been a good one to name after him, unless they want to rename the Art Ross at some point.

Miller should get an award named after him: The WTF Wave award, going to the goalie who lets in the dumbest goal, then does the wave.
