dEnnis the Menace Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 no panic. Zagrapan fell through, so that's where my concern is mainly stemming from. that and his seemingly limited grasp of the english language. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same reservations about the kid. I honestly don't think he'll fall through. Darcy did mention (as Bun mentioned) that he will more than likely play another year overseas, before he's brought this way. I think this one will work out a lot better than some of the previous no shows.
X. Benedict Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 no panic. Zagrapan fell through, so that's where my concern is mainly stemming from. that and his seemingly limited grasp of the english language. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same reservations about the kid. A little different situation IMO. Zagrapan was playing Juniors in North America in the Q for two years. Armia is already playing in the SM-Liiga, at a level many say slightly higher than the AHL - and it less of a development league than the AHL - and he is playing at 17 with guys that average nearly 25. Having said that, any mid-first round pick could bust, but Zagrapan was in a much weaker draft IMO - and never had the strength or balance to match his hands. Armia is a terrific skater with size, and is able to play a sounder defensive game. Zagrapan never had the stuff to be a third or fourth line call-up to get NHL ice time, and they never needed him in the top 6.
spndnchz Posted July 6, 2011 Author Report Posted July 6, 2011 Big news out of Sabres Development Camp: team names are no longer pinned on jerseys! They are actually fully attached!
Sterling Archer Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Really think its a dumb decision to let him stay in Finland. Get him on NA ice in a hurry. If you give him more time on that International ice, it's more time for him to learn not to play with a sense of urgency that a smaller ice surface creates. We know he has hands and they don't need to really develop any more. Now is the time to see if he can take a hit to make a play.

LGR4GM Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 I heard that Kassian, Adam, and Ennis are a line and they are running circles around everyone else... if this is true then maybe by next year we could have something. I would love to see this line sooner rather than later but ik that development camp is nothing like a real game and I think Adam and Kassian could use a year in the AHL to develop and work on their skills. Its so exciting to be a sabres fan!

shrader Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 not to nitpick, but it's Adam...as in Luke Adam. sorry. it was bugging me  Especially since defenseman Mark Adams is at the camp as well.

Zagrapan's numbers were pretty nice in 2004-05 before we drafted him and again in 2005-06. Check it out. But he was never able to make an impact again after leaving juniors. Sometimes you have to take the stats for an undersized player in the Q with a grain of salt. My main concern with Armia is getting him comfortable with North American hockey (he didn't look so hot on the smaller ice surface in Buffalo during the WJC) and North American culture. That'll be a lot of change all at once. I'm hoping Leino can take him under his wing. I don't know what other teams do when they have a valuable player who barely speaks any English but I'm hoping the Sabres do whatever they can to help his transition.

inkman Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Roster page: I see they have Ennis listed as a center... Cue the next 5,000 posts about Tyler Ennis playing center for the Sabres.

bunomatic Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 With this overabundance of centres we should move some of them.
shrader Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 They should move Gerbe to center! Didn't he play center at BU? Oh god I hate you... but for two reasons this time.

shrader Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Wasn't sure your rage would allow you to see that second slight! We pick up on that one right away. It's exactly like when people assume Buffalonians are from NYC.
billsrcursed Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 They should move Gerbe to center! Didn't he play center at BU? Well played, on both fronts.
