College Hockey

I can't be the only college fan here on this board. We're in the stretch run now and this is shaping up to be a very fun few weeks.

Is anyone going to any of these games over the next few weeks? Tonight and tomorrow I'll be at the Hockey East tourney here in Boston (don't worry, I'm taping tomorrow's Buffalo-Ottawa game). I'll also be at the first two rounds of the NCAA regional in Worcester next week and the Frozen Four in Milwaukee in April. I can't wait! As a college hockey fan, it doesn't get any better than this time of the year.

Quick note: I'm a BU fan. What about anyone else out there?

i wish i could watch (either live or on tv) some of the games. i love college hockey. the atmosphere at the games blows away any other hockey crowd (at least that's true at the kohl center in madison).

here's to badgers winning it on (somewhat) home ice in milwaukee!!!

Well that was fun. BU slaughtered UNH 9-2 tonight. 4 goals in the first 5 minutes of the 3rd made this one an absolute laugher. I could use more games like that, especially tomorrow night vs. BC in the Hockey East championship game.

edit: I'm sorry, make that 4 goal in the first 3.5 minutes in the 3rd.

You aren't, but my team stinks this year, so I am focusing on my real team. (Let's go Buf-fa-lo!)

I wish I could say they'll bounce back, but its been a while now.

BU wins the Hockey East title 2-1 in OT over BC! Our first HE title since 1997. That was one hell of a night.

The expansion of Div I has not been kind to my team nor RPI (so I at least get to take some good with the bad :D ) as a lot of Canadian kids that want US college educations (specifically Engineering) and want to stay close to home now have a lot more options. (Not that we were the only 2 schools available to them by any means, but there are now many more options than there were say 10 years ago.)

Congrats to your guys.

I just haven't taken the time to become interested...

As a UB engineering alum, that's one reason why I don't understand why UB doesn't try a real hockey program. Here's some craziness - I wonder how hard it would be for UB to become an Aud tenant...

I read an article or two earlier this year about UB considering a DI hockey program. That may be too big of a step, but there really is no excuse for the school not having a DIII team right now. I'd love to see them go DI someday though. The city could really use a college hockey team that more of the people could identify with. Oh, and UB and Niagara would make great travel partners if the ECAC expands again in the future.

Probably extremely difficult, as several of the Mmarena's loan stipulations included the City shutting down the Aud for sporting / concert events.

I would also expect it to be quite pricey to get the refrigeration system back up to snuff as it definitely appeared to be on its last legs back in '96.

Just a question 'cause I'm still trying to figure out the new board scheme: Why isn't this at "Center Ice?" It certainly concerns "hockey in general." Same goes for Grim's post on the Sabs' odds to win it all.

It probably could go to the main forum, although it would have disappeared over a week ago. I think SDS created this forum to encourage more off-topic posts. However, the posters that post here are not here to talk about off topic stuff. What isn't hard Sabres gets started in The Aud Club. Neither thread was moved btw...

I figured this was the better place, even though there really isn't much posting on this side of the board. Like Knightrider said, this thread would've disappeared quickly over there.

Back to hockey. I'm headed to Worcester for the first round of the tourney in a few hours.

BU-UNO

Miami-BC

It should be a fun day. I don't really care too much about the second game right now, but I am curious to see how good Miami is.

Found this interesting article on College Sweaters. I was dissappointed that they didn't comment on RIT's sweater as I am an alumni. I am excited that RIT made the move to D1. I guess that gives me a reason to follow college hockey.

I see Niagra and Canisius sweater's were among the lowest rated.

how bout that wisconsin win? the team stunk for 3 weeks... coincidentally those 3 weeks brian elliott was out with a bum knee. he could be the next great goalie to come out of college

I'm finally back from Milwaukee. That was one hell of an atmosphere. Luckily the game ended the way it should have. The post-game celebration would've been horrible if BC had won it in front of their 5 fans.

One other comment: I hated that they gave the MVP to Earl. I had heard his reputation as a diver and boy did he live up to that. Faking two injuries in the championship game should be more than enough to disqualify him from MVP voting. Even worse, he ended up scoring immediately after faking the first injury. Stupid espn, showing the clip over and over and praising him for it. The second fake injury was one of the more disgusting acts I've ever seen. He took a hit and immediately held his knee. After about 10 seconds when he realized there was no call, he "struggled" to get up and "hobbled" over to the bench, skating on only one leg. When he got to the bench and sat down, the trainer didn't even bother to come over and check on him. Disgusting.

i don't know man. i may have a biased opinion, but BC was goin for the knees. earl might have embellished them, but the one licari took was brutal. how there was no call, and how he didn't seriously jack his knee up, is beyond me. it was a hell of a game and i wish i coulda been there. uw has one of the most hardcore followings in the country. the atmosphere at the kohl center in madison is nuts, so i can only imagine what it was like at the bradley center.
