shrader Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 I'm pretty sure neither knew where the other was as they were both looking up (down) the ice. that was probably the best no-call of the series. My thoughts exactly. There's really no clear way of saying who hit who there. You can't call interference on both guys (I'd love to see the reaction to that one).
james duncan Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Just went on facebook and witnessed picture after picture of complete f'ups destroying and stealing. I am sick looking at what these losers have done. I applaud all those putting their photos up so these people will be charged to the fullest extent of the law. It's just a f'ing hockey game! Beyond ridiculous. In no particular order: idiots looking for any reason to destroy things, alcohol, people who typically would never think of acting like a-holes but go along with the crowd due to lack of backbone, disgruntled fans, just plain old d-bags. Sad.
rickshaw Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 At least some people tried to stand up and say what's right Like I said in earlier posts, most of these rioters aren't from Vancouver at all. I lived on the Coast and I know by looking at people where they are most likely from. The Lower Mainland has pockets of different cultures living in certain cities, mainly, and I'm quite certain when the names come out we will find out that most of these losers are from outside Vancouver. I'm really sad to see all this. As a man and as a parent, I'm just disgusted and feel teary eyed looking at this type of behaviour.

nobody Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 At the end of the game - 2 second left - I sure was hoping that Luongo would have touched the puck when he went into the trapezoid (I guess really the non-trapezoid area.) I'm sure they would have just let the time keep going.

If this is the case then where the hell were all the 'real' Vancouverians? I might end up dead if this ever happened in Buffalo because I wouldn't be able to stand around with my cell phone along with 10 other people next to me and record this kind of reckless destruction. The video you linked is the only one I've seen so far where somebody is actually trying to step in and stop them. Again, I might end up dead because I'm a bit too passionate of a person to be a bystander like all the idiots I see with their phones out in all these videos and pictures.

That's the thing, you might end up dead. Tough to outnumber a mob and that's why people just filmed and photographed. Mistakes were made. Police were too passive early. Transit ending up being shut down because of violence so the people couldn't get out of downtown Vancouver. Recipe for disaster. They gave people a chance to have fun and enjoy and a few revelers ruined it. Some people came with molativ (sp) cocktails. Win or lose some were making trouble. Pathetic.

Speaking of Charo, does this mean that Don Cherry officially loses another Europhobic rant: teams w/ Euro captains can't win the big one? (I know that the Wings won w/ Lidstrom, but that's a special dude in an already well established winning system.)

(I know that the Wings won w/ Lidstrom, but that's a special dude in an already well established winning system.) Well, in a way he couldn't win or lose this. Sedin is captain of the Canucks. But it has to bother him that an American goalie beat a Canadian and an American was the Canucks best player. I find his whole rant on the subject tiresome.
That Aud Smell Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 It's not the City of Vancouver's shame. you won't hear me join the facile chorus of people saying "oh, for shame, vancouver." here's my takeaway from game 7: the arena stayed dern-near full for the entire presentation ceremony, and those canadian fans, who had had their hopes dashed and spirits crushed, managed to cheer (and not just politely, i might add) the american-born goalie from the visiting team when he hoisted and skated with the cup. talk about classy.

The ovations given to some of the Bruins shows that Vancouver is very hockey savvy. Tim Thomas eluded it to it in his interview with Canadian media.

The fans inside the arena were classy, the "fans" outside were less so... NOTE: QUOTATION MARKS
rickshaw Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 The fans inside the arena were classy, the "fans" outside were less so... NOTE: QUOTATION MARKS This was started by some bad apples and that's what they wanted. Thankfully today there are many facebook pages showing people's pictures and id's in some cases as well. There are some other sites set up too to help identify the criminals. It was also nice to see that many people gathered downtown to help clean up the mess. So please, don't group everyone into the sarcastic "stay classy Vancouver" section. The majority of people are against this and it's always the smaller few that ruin it for the masses.

Didn't have a chance this morning to look at everything. Stuff at work started slowing down so I started looking through the different stories and long behold, you're right... still classless, but just not "vancouverans"

bunomatic Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Wait.. noone is going to question the obvious stereotyping here? I agree. There's no way you can tell me that there aren't any people from Vancouver in this crowd. Just bad apples from outlying areas. Come on. Love your home town but don't be a fool. There's idiots from every city no doubt and many of the hooligans in this mob were most likely proud vancouverites and die hard canuckleheads regardless of what the vancouver apologists might try and tell you. I saw alot of Canuck jerseys so they are supporting the team which makes them fans.

Disagree with me, but don't insult me. Of course people were from Vancouver but I can tell you from living in the outlying areas most of my life that the majority of them were from out of the Vancouver border. I'm not an apologist or trying to be politically incorrect but I've lived there and I know how many of the cities are set up. The trouble that started was from organized criminals or anarchists and it spewed over into other segments, mainly young men fueled by booze. As for my stereotyping, I stand by my words that when the names come out you will find the vast majority are not from Vancouver. I'll even go as far to say that Surrey will lead the way with the most offenses. I'll report it here when it happens. Good news http://www.theprovince.com/Plywood+canvas+keeps+Vancouver+united/4960768/story.html

Why even make the statement? Just by looking at these thousands of people running around wrecking the place you can tell they're not local. How? By their ethnicity? the way they dress? By their hairstyles? How rude they are? I just find it odd that you'd know by seeing it on the news where these people are from. Thats all.
nobody Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 oh no - another member vs member argument! See what happens when we don't have a common enemy!

I have no idea...but when people show up with masks, goggles, balaclavas, and knapsacks, it is probably safe to assume that they didn't come out of a hockey game and they at least had a rudimentary plan.
