Thomas' stats would be a lot worse if Vancouver could jump on those HUGE rebounds he lays out there. He is horrible at holding onto the puck and Boston's D usually gets to the juicy rebounds first. If Vancouver kept someone in closer to Thomas they may have scored quite a few more goals. Not taking anything away from TT, but his rebounds are doozies. And Vancouver's D plays way to far back on the PP when the puck goes in deep. They should be jumping on those loose pucks better.

This has been a very entertaining series. Far better than I expected. The physical intensity has been fun to watch. Touch the puck and you almost certainly get hit. Doc has been a treat to listen to. You truly can't figure out whom he is rooting for. He calls every SOG, save and goal with equal enthusiasm.

Luongo = greaseball.

He's going to lose bigtime in Boston again, I can feel it. On to game 7, which should be OT, according to how this season has been going. The weather I think is playing a part in the series and the cup winning goal might turn out to be a fluke.

i haven't read this entire thread, so forgive me if this has been discussed already, but i have to voice my opinion about this...

the anthem singer in boston is a complete tool, and i can't help but cringe whenever he starts up. those guys in vancouver...pure professionals who know how to pound 'em out and make it about the songs and not themselves. guy in boston...pure douche.

that being said, all three of them blow any other sport's finals anthem singers out of the water (except whitney, of course).

I get a kick out of how the media blows every comment up 1000 x.

Now the Bruins are using a snippet of a comment by Luongo after an emotionally charged win. He said that the goal scored was an easy save for himself because he stays in the paint. Apparently that was a shot at Thomas. He also said in the same breath that Thomas will make saves that he won't because of their styles.

All I can say is this is one of the most overblown things going. If the Bruins or any team one game from elimination needs extra motivation, then quite possibly they shouldn't be there.

I find it interesting that depending on who you cheer for, the comments made by each team can be interpreted differently. For example, the media loves Thomas because he's so "affable" whereas Luongo isn't that way and comes off arrogant.

Truth be told, Luongo does come off that way a lot and it rubs people the wrong way, but he's not a guy who trashes on other teams' players. He's been very complimentary of Thomas and the Bruins. I'm not a fan of Luongo but as long as he stops the puck, it's ok by me. I find Thomas very cocky and smug and that rubs me, personally, the wrong way. I like how Thomas handles himself in some sitations but in others I just want to rub that look off his face. Either way, this series isn't going to be won from media quotes.

Game 6 will hopefully be a good one with the hated guys winning it and giving the province of BC something to cheer for.

Agreed, rick. This day & age, there are so many media outlets, you can have that many interpretations of what someone says...innocent or not.

I agree with the statement that if you need someone else's comments to motivate you at this stage of the season, then you don't deserve to win. That said, I think the media (and us fans sometimes) talk about this as extra motivation, not necessarily the initial motivation. I don't doubt the Bruins are motivated enough - an elimination game at home should give you everything you need - but I just think that if another player says anything remotely close to trash-talking, then it adds fuel to that motivation.

I don't get all this love for Thomas anyways. Sure he is an above average goalie, but to hear so many people say...I'd like to see Thomas win the Cup, he seems like a stand-up guy. I'm sure many of the Canuck players are stand-up guys as well. I myself have always enjoyed Luongo as a goalie from his first days in the league with the Islanders. Thomas came out of nowhere at a later age and all of a sudden all these people love the guy. I don't like anyone who puts on any Boston teams uniform. Hell, I can't even stand Paille anymore. He never showed that much effort in Buffalo. Yes.....I hate Boston sports more than anyone and yes, their anthem singer is a complete douche. I can't stand his little moves before and after he sings. And another thing I really hate about both teams, is the freaking PR guys yelling "whoooooo" after every home goal. Man I'd like to punch them ass clowns in the mouth.

Okay rant over. It's been a great series to watch and I hope Vancouver wins it tonight in beantown just cause I hate their fans so much!!!

It's the same way down here at at Canes games when they score, only they used a washed up wrestler for the wooo-woo's.

100% agreed. If the remote is within reach, I actually mute the TV when I hear the goal call start.

A little dirtiness and nastiness is expected in the finals - that's hockey - but the diving part is embarrassing to the sport as a whole. Soccer is a joke to watch due to the amount of flopping and diving that goes on, and nobody wants hockey to turn (any more than it already has) into that. I came into the series wanting Vancouver to win, but seeing some of the blatant dives that their players have taken has tempered my support. I don't think that the Canucks are "the villains" or even the dirtier team, but they have been blatantly trying to fake penalties against in a way that is just disgusting. I like the fact that Versus and NBC have done a pretty good job of catching them and playing them over and over, whether a bad call was made, the refs chose to ignore fake penalty, or they actually called embellishment.

Not to digress, but Paille isn't the first ex-Sabre to put much more effort into his game after leaving Buffalo. And Boyes isn't the first new Sabre whose production has dropped off after donning the blue and gold. Personally, I think it is because the Sabres' locker room was too small.....

I dunno. I always thoguht that Paille's work ethic was one of his positives. He just didn't bring much other than work ethic to the table.

Yeah, but once you see all those other dirty hippies up in Vermont, you'll quickly change your mind on Thomas.

That article is spot on about how dirty these teams get. When talking about the Stars in their run to the Cup, I remember how dirty Hatcher was in the finals against Buffalo. Detroit and Colorado always play dirty in the playoffs and we all know how Philly plays.

I think Boston by far, has been the dirtier team while Vancouver is definitely embellishing too much. This is kind of ironic seeing how one of the leagues all time diving champs (Recchi) plays for Boston.

Posted

WHen I talk about the Sabres not having players that will rise to the occassion, or that we don;t have the right mix even if we have enough talent, that article pretty much sums up what I am talking about.

“I think anyone who watched knows that. You saw them when we played them. The Hawks won with any means necessary,” Kevin Bieksa said. “They definitely weren’t the classiest team I’ve ever played. They were dirty and chippy and, arguably, the mouthiest team in the league.

By any means necessary is not in the current teams list of quotes and sound bites.

I hate Thomas - he is a dirty goalie.

Now of course if he were a Sabre then I would be cheering him on as he slashed at the knees of the opposition.

honestly, i wish more goalies would stick up for themselves like thomas did. it's not necessary behavior persay, but people might think twice if goalies had the stones to do it. As far as i'm concerned, it's a penalizable offense, but if the ref doesn't see it then it's a good play. I mean, a slash to the ankles isn't going to concuss anybody.

When Claude gets his matchups, he can shut down the Nucks. This sure seems like a 7-game series. I would be very happy for the Nucks to raise the trophy on Boston ice. I'm all but done with hockey this year.

I'm already sick of Milbury tonight and the coverage has only been on 2 mins. Milbury and the anthem singer should go take a swim in the Chaales Rivah.

Stay classy Bruins fans.

There was no reason for Boychuk to finish that hit on Raymond when he was bent over like that. I don't doubt he strained his lower back getting bent over that way.

Dirty.

Followed by an awful diving call on Sedin.

It's cool ref you don't have to call either of thise crosschecks. Not like they're penalties or anything.

I can already tell who they want to win this game.
