Sabre fan Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Is it just me, or is the obvious move Darcy should be looking into is aquiring Danny Briere back from Philly? The Flyers have openly stated they are seeking cap-relief, and while Briere's contract is crazy, he is worth the money, compare to many other centres and their contracts (ie: Tim Connolly). Adding Bieska to the defense and Briere would immediately change the team from pretender to contender. Briere should be attainable for say Sekera an a pic, as Philly does not want to take on salary. I certainly prefer Briere to Brad Richards, who will probably command even more then Briere is making. Any thoughts???
dudacek Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I'd happily take Danny at his current contract for Sekera or a similar young player or prospect ahead of Brad Richards. I'd be dancing in the street. We can only hope Philly is really that desperate.
OverPowerYou Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 It will cost more than Sekera and a pic. They're not just gonna give him to us like that.
Wyldnwoody44 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Let's just give em ennis, enroth and kassian for briere.....sounds like a blockbuster deal for Darcy......but in all seriousness, I would love to see 48 back in the blue and gold .....I think that if we really wanted to get that done, then we have the right players in place to make it happen, does darcy have the stones for it tho? Or will his pride get in the way, after all he did let Danny walk a few years ago.

inkman Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Or will his pride get in the way, after all he did let Danny walk a few years ago. I'm sure someone with a better recollection of the situation can help elaborate on the subject, but there was a ton of bad blood between Danny and Sabres management over the arbitration process and the (at the time, coming off a 50 point season) $5 million dollar award he received. I'm not sure if either side has gotten rid of the bad taste in their mouths.

Sabre fan Posted May 31, 2011 Author Report Posted May 31, 2011 No, I did not mean to start the whole "Briere and Drury" thing again, but merely must confess I'd love tosee him back in a Sabre uniform. We certainly have the bodies needed (although I wouldn't give away the house) to make this happen and Briere is exactly what this team needs (Bieska would help as well). Looking at it another way, who else is there who is available and fits the needs of the team?

If philly is that desperate to clear cap space, i'd take mike richards. then i wouldnt feel too bad about letting kassian go in return. However i would try to hold enroth ennis and kassian if possible. Ennis has a lot of upside, and we might be looking at the next alex semin if we can get the kid a viable center. I'm not in a hurry to unload him. I also wouldn't mind seeing kassian in a sabre uniform for the sake of seeing how the kid plays. Will that kind of immaculate trade happen? probably not, but hey, i can dream.

beerme1 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 i'd take mike richards I could not stomach Richards and Roy on the same team and I doubt any ref in the league could either.
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I could not stomach Richards and Roy on the same team and I doubt any ref in the league could either. why is that exactly?
carpandean Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 why is that exactly? Because they both have reputations as divers and whiners. I would actually be quite happy if we started next year with Roy and Mike Richards ... though, I'm pretty sure that he's not going anywhere.
OverPowerYou Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I could not stomach Richards and Roy on the same team and I doubt any ref in the league could either. I dont know about you but i will take any Center that is better than Roy if the price is right.

I think over the past couple of seasons, Roy has done a pretty good job of removing those words from his reputation.

Yeah he whines, but he's tough, a leader, and productive offensively. Tell me where to sign.

Weave Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I could not stomach Richards and Roy on the same team and I doubt any ref in the league could either. Are you forgetting that Briere had every bit the reputation as a whiner/diver that Roy had when he was on our side? I'll gladly take Mike Richards in Blue and Gold.
dudacek Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Richards is exactly what this team needs. FWIW, he and Roy were teammates on a Memorial Cup winner. Roy was the captain.
X. Benedict Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Richards is exactly what this team needs. FWIW, he and Roy were teammates on a Memorial Cup winner. Roy was the captain. 8 years X 8.5 million ......I think negotiations start there, and go higher. I like Richards....I don't like a contract that looks like that.
dudacek Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I was talking Mike, who is under contract. If you are talking Brad, I definitely agree with you.
