deluca67 Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 I might as well say it before DeLuca does. Will they be getting a new rug in the locker room? Rumor has it that Pegula is in negotiations with the NYS Thruway Authority and Max Pies to carpet the 90 between Buffalo and Rochester.
wildcat48 Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Sabres moving affiliation back to Rochester Published on: 24th June, 2011 by Chris Roy Portland, ME – It sort of like your current girlfriend dumping you only to go back to their longtime ex. After a three-year affiliation with the Portland Pirates, the Buffalo Sabres are heading back to Rochester, NY where they spent nearly three decades before coming to Portland in 2008. Link>>>>

All Along The Watchtower Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 As a Rochester native, all I can say is that this is very good news. The War Memorial will be rocking once more!
thewookie1 Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 As much as I'm estatic to have the Amerks back, I feel bad for the Pirates losing a prospect powerhouse
darksabre Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 I'm gonna have to check the amerks schedule vs RITs but I might even buy seasons...
IKnowPhysics Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Out of one the D&C articles: One of the obstacles was the Sabres' contract with Portland, which was to run through the 2013-14 season. Except it didn't become a stumbling block because Pirates managing owner Brian Petrovek understood Buffalo was a better fit for Rochester. "We had a long-term deal, but in the best interest of the Buffalo Sabres and their desire to develop their players differently, their desire to return to a Rochester market to have their player development only 70 miles down the road, and from our perspective as an independent owner to see the Rochester market become rejuvenated and revitalized under Sabres ownership it became very important for us," Petrovek told reporters in Portland on Friday afternoon. "It was the right thing to do." I cannot find the words to describe what a classy move this is (even though I know they got a buy out). The Pirates could've tried, maybe rightfully from their perspective, to cockblock the ###### out of the change in affiliation. Instead, they'd rather see Rochester be a healthy and successful AHL franchise that has a rock-solid developmental relationship with an NHL parent club. Why? Because it's what's best for Buffalo, Rochester, and the AHL (not necessarily Portland). Because it was the right thing to do. That demonstrates to me a pretty selfless act and a great commitment to the health of the game. After many great memories of the Buffalo-Portland affiliation, I'm happy that this will be the last great memory. Thank you Portland.

Everything about the Portland relationship has been terrific except for the fact that it's not right down the road.

Cudos to Brian Petrovek. He runs a 1st class organization. I'm sure they'll land on their feet after this.
carpandean Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Ha! When I read INP's quote in Taro's post, I thought the bottom part was from the article. I couldn't believe that the D&C would have printed "cockblock the ###### out of ..."
spndnchz Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 For wildcat's sake, I really hope that Portland doesn't wind up with the Panthers. He's been a great asset to this board so I would never wish that upon him. Florida with San Antonio.
SDS Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Coyotes will be with Portland. What, China wasn't a good fit?

Now if I can just get back the 5k I lost in the great Sabrespace blackout...
nobody Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 What, China wasn't a good fit? It will more more sense once the Coyotes move to Quebec or Hamilton.
beerme1 Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Cudos to Brian Petrovek. He runs a 1st class organization. I'm sure they'll land on their feet after this. I told my wife that this guy gets it. He understands what the Roch=Buff connection is and more importantly what it it means to his league and his franchise having an NHL team be an owner in his league. Kudos to this guy and thanks to all in Portland! This Portland franchise gets favored nation trading status forever!
kishoph Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Maybe I'm making this harder on myself than I should be, but what happens to the Panther's players that played for the AMERKS last season, I'm assuming that they go to wherever Florida's new farm team is and also what happens to the Portland organization, do they just become defunct, unless some NHL team buys them ?

Portland will get another NHL club and from here it looks like Phoenix.

As such, Portland will have a new affiliate (as nucci said, looks like Phoenix.)

Wtf...I left for Florida last Wed and since I've been down here the Sabres are getting some sh*t done I see. Amerks back together with them, Regher coming in. Maybe I should just stay down here in this sweatbox. But one thing I did hear is that T Pegs threw Portland $100,000 to get out of the contract. Can anyone confirm this? It doesn't seem like a lot of cash, but it would make it more feasible for Portland to say "it was the right thing to do". If anyone knows, let me know. I'm going back to the beach now B-)
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Thanks, but then what happens to Phoenix's old farm team ? I tried to post a pic of my head exploding, but no luck. i don't think it's that tough of a concept. 30 NHL teams & 30 AHL teams. It's like a game of musical chairs but noones taking a seat out of the mix. Pheonixs old farm club gets a new NHL team, and this trend goes on till all places are filled.
