dudacek Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Toronto's track record in free agency in the Burke era seems to show it's not the destination many would have you believe. They've missed on the best players and shelled out some big coin on some questionable contracts: Komisarek, Beauchemin, Blake, Finger.

Hasn't had too many success stories since.
LGR4GM Posted May 31, 2011 Author Report Posted May 31, 2011 toronto sucks and no one really wants to play there. Regier has a choice improve us drastically or be fired, how long pegula gives him is unknown. Sharp is possible but not likely, boston, sj, and st louis are the places with center depth I would look to. In the playoffs the only goal differential that counts is did you have more than the other guy when the game ended. Suffer ppl our defense has an average age of 24 so deal with it.
nobody Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 This is what scares me the most, Toronto at forward can offer ungodly money to win FA, and burke is a master trader. Detroit scares me on the blue line. They could easily get the top two available guys, and at a discount. I guess that is also why it is a 3 year plan rather then a 1 year plan. If it is a small FA group this year and the top choices are more likely to want to sign somewhere else this year then the Sabres have to go the trade route. Getting Connolly and Stafford signed again is like picking up some FAs, right?
HopefulFuture Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Stafford gets resigned. A trade on draft day is most likely coming, especially given the depth at RW on this team and the need for some center depth.

LGR4GM Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 so from what I understand it looks that yzerman claims that Stamkos will be signed no question. Also, 7.5 seems to be the number in mind for the cap hit. To bad, but there are other fish. Course when we sign our star RW stafford for 5mil we will be fine...

Since it would take at least 2 Staffords to equal 1 Stamkos; then at the most Stafford should get no more than half the salary.

LastPommerFan Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 What will the rangers be looking to unload to make room for B. Richards?
carpandean Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 What will the rangers be looking to unload to make room for B. Richards? Chris Drury?
X. Benedict Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Chris Drury? Yep. a NMC-NTC stands in the way.
Lanny Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Yep. a NMC-NTC stands in the way. Does the NMC restrict them from buying him out? http://www.capgeek.com/buyout_calculator.php?player_id=625&buyout_y=2011&buyout_m=06&buyout_d=15

(so really it is only 2 million in total relief) If they buy him out. I wouldn't be upset if Buffalo signed him right away for $2 million. Good faceoffs, PK, and work ethic. Veteran smarts to replace Neidermeyer.
Derrico Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Chris Drury? I'm not taking him at that contract.

carpandean Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I'm not taking him at that contract. Nobody would, nor have I heard anyone suggest doing so. If they buy him out, then some would take him back for a much lower salary.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 He "probably" has something against the city we are unaware of. "Probably" in the same way Pegula has the Hockey News on payroll? I wasn't saying Pegula has the Hockey News on payroll. The franchise doesn't need to bamboozle the fans anymore. Now the employees just need to keep bamboozling Pegula. Pegula admits he doesn't use the internet. How does he get his "news" then? Hmmmnnn..... I've told you before how the game works as I see it in action. As long as a resource can make it look like things should be justified....everyone stays cozy for just a bit longer. I'm not saying this is the case here, but when results in the real world differ so much from the stated opinion.....it's as good a read as any.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 He "probably" has something against the city we are unaware of. I don't know about you, but I usually only allow a person one attempted @$$rape and then stay as far away as possible from them.

Peca wanted to play in Buffalo his last year and he was someone with a legitimate gripe. Hockey players aren't really ones to nurse grudges long. They'll happily room with the same guy that concussed them the previous season on a different team.

And Grier came back when Buffalo was probably 1 of 2 or 3 teams to even offer him money. Drury still has some value. There is a difference between playing against an on-ice rival, and being lied to by the guy who is about to offer you another contract. Unless Pegula drives an offer, Darcy wouldn't have the stones to try anyway.

Unless Pegula drives an offer, Darcy wouldn't have the stones to try anyway. Drury is certainly not a first line player today, if he ever was one. In this scenario, If Buffalo wanted him, they'd call his agent Mark Witkin and it would get done. These agents don't leave money on the table.
SabresFan526 Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 Well, according to TSN, Brad Richards will not be offered a contract by the Dallas Stars. Link here Obviously this means he will either get traded at the draft for negotiating rights and/or he will sign with another team on July 1st. I'm not sure Buffalo's going to be in the Brad Richards sweepstakes and given how thin this year's market is, he'll get a lot of money thrown his way, and I'm not sure he's worth it. Additionally, my money is that he will sign with the New York Rangers which will lead to a buyout of Chris Drury and/or Wade Redden. Rangers seem like the most realistic choice with Toronto as a second option. I'm sure he'd love to go back and play in Tampa with all his buddies, but I think they have cap problems and it won't work there. I could also possibly see Calgary and reuniting with Feaster, but right now, I'd pick Richards signs with the Rangers. I'd love to see him sign in Buffalo, but I'm not sure it's going to happen. Oh well.
