X. Benedict Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I would prefer they pass out the usual 10% offers. None of the current RFA's are high priority. If they are looking to secure any player long term I would hope it was Myers. That's pretty much what I was getting at. Offer him more money now for a more generous cap deal spread out longer.
deluca67 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I would like to see Gerbe and Enroth signed to two year deals and that will take more then 10%. Are they UFA's after next year? If so that is a different story.
shrader Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Are they UFA's after next year? If so that is a different story. No, neither will be. They'll both get short termed deals in hopes of earning a bigger 3rd contract.
nfreeman Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 If spent well it can go a long way. IMO, it would be better if they can dump some more salaries, that maybe be too much to hope for from Status Quo. They really need to dump at least one of Pommer, Hecht and Boyes. I don't think LTIR is really an option for Pommer because he'll be healthy at some point in the first 1/3 of the season and then they'd need to suddenly create $5MM in cap space.
spndnchz Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 Vanek will play for Austria in the IIHF's World Championships.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 That concussion sure does explain Miller's more vigorous than usual defence of his crease and our D-men's reaction to bumping. And howinthehell did Hasek not end up with concussions considering all the pucks he purposely saved with his coconut? Hasek's helmet was probably a lot better then those new goalie masks. They are not even approved masks for the most part and really have not been through proper safety testing.
donteatyellowsnow Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I'd take Grier back as a 12-13 forward. Play him ins 40-50 games and have him come out firing in the playoffs for one last kick at the can. I want no part of Neidermayer. I don't care how he played in the playoffs. He was brought in just for the playoffs. That's why he was here, the playoffs, not the regular season.
LabattBlue Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 The cap will go up at least another 3 million this year and more the following year provided the Canadian dollar stays strong. Also, if money is in fact no object, Morrison and Hecht could easily be dispatched to the minors if no takers are found. In addition, Pominville could start the year on LTIR. They can easily add a $7 million forward and a $5 million defenseman and sign all their RFA's as well as McCormick. Good point on sending guys to the minors. If Pegula goes to those extremes, I'd really be impressed.
darksabre Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Hasek's helmet was probably a lot better then those new goalie masks. They are not even approved masks for the most part and really have not been through proper safety testing. You're joking right?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Good point on sending guys to the minors. If Pegula goes to those extremes, I'd really be impressed. Darcy would ###### his pants in fear.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 You're joking right? Nope, they were talking about it on TSN, Kelly Hrudey and another ex goalie on how ridiculous this situation with the masks are.
darksabre Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Nope, they were talking about it on TSN, Kelly Hrudey and another ex goalie on how ridiculous this situation with the masks are. http://ingoalmag.com/news/cbcs-glen-healy-slams-mask-makers-and-nhl-goalie-safety/ I think you're interpreting what they're saying the wrong way. They're accusing the NHL of not testing the masks. However, mask makers do test their masks, and put a lot of time into designing them to be safe. Hrudey also admits that the helmet he (and Hasek) wore, the SK2000, was one of the least safe masks ever. The contention here isn't whether the type of mask is safe. It's that the NHL allows players to wear whatever they want without testing it. This leaves goalies up to their own discretion. And to be honest, it would be insane to think that a mask can fully protect a player from head injury. Most of the time they do. But occasionally you get a situation where a shot may hit just right and with enough force to cause a problem. But there's still no way that current masks are less safe than the old two pieces and early one pieces. I'd say it's fairly likely that there are far fewer concussions to goaltenders now than there ever were, at least as far as they were documented back then.

Taro T Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Maybe he realizes he has no other options. With $23 mil available the Sabres need to do a lot better than Grier and Montador if they plan to take any steps towards being an actual contender. Has anybody here claimed otherwise?
LGR4GM Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 rehash blah blah Pavelski and Ehrhoff rehash... you all know what I think about FA so I am not going to post more on it. I think Weber and Sekera sign 3 yr deals or maybe 4 so they will be prime UFA's but you never know. Myers needs to be locked up long term this summer. We have defensive and offensive problems that will be addressed but the team that left the ice on tuesday will not be the team that takes the ice in October, Pegula would not and Will not allow it. Patience for now. Let the haters start threads about never ever winning the cup and let ppl vent but I will wait patiently for July1 to see if pegula is all talk before i start making assumptions or passing judgment.
SabresMojo Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Montador: "I’m a Sabre and I’d love to be able to get something done around and stick around for a long time." This is a problem I have...(see slight rant below) Vanek on Captaincy: "If it’s something that comes up, then I’ll take the challenge." Good comment, doesnt want to come off as cocky nor not being a leader. Stafford "Hopefully I'll enjoy next season here". Better produce then! If you LOVE a team and LOVE to play for a team, then act like it, show you love this team and produce on the ice. When a player doesnt perform and probably knows it, they usually say that they love the city and team to stay; I dont like that at all and Monty NEEDS to go!

If they want to take advantage of the cap relief the should get from Pominville's injury, they will have the opportunity.

He will still do some serious damage to the cap when he returns. Unless the Sabre IR him for the season which I will be all in favor of.

If Uncle Terry is really being honest when he says money is not an option (and I believe he is, I picture him as me, only with $3.7B) then there is no such thing as getting stuck with a bad contract (unless it includes a clause outlawing movement to the minors) I think this is the only way we can dump Morrison ($2M) and if Boyes doesn't work out dump him too ($4M). The only reservation I have is that he wants players to love playing in Buffalo. And if everyone sees big contracts for players struggling to produce ending up in portland will this cause a negative perception amongst the NHLPA at large?

How about the perception that the Sabres are serious about winning and if you don't produce you wont be around long no matter the cost. That is the perception I want the NHLPA to have.

Unless the Sabre IR him for the season which I will be all in favor of. Why? He was 2nd on the team in points this year despite suffering a bad concussion a few games into the season. He doesn't suck just because he's not an all-star. He's a good player.
