Taro T Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 My heart says keep Grier. My eyes wonder if he can get up and down the ice. To me Grier is Teppo-like, in that it'd be better to keep him 1 year too long than try to guess when the correct time is, because he could keep it going a long time. As much as I like the career he had, I'm not certain that this year wasn't that 1 year too many. If the knee was holding him back and it can be fixed, I'd give him 1 more year. My guess is there was more to it than just the knee. Either way, thanks Mike.

I love having him around. he's got the heart, and grit, and I think that having him around is a MAJOR plus for our younger guys

PlayoffReadyMatt Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Very encouraging stuff. Next year is gonna be a good year if and when we get the right pieces in place. Just too inexperienced and hurt to beat the Flyers.
LabattBlue Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Grier says if he does come back, it would only be to Sabres. Thanks Mike. I'd take Grier back as a 12-13 forward. Play him ins 40-50 games and have him come out firing in the playoffs for one last kick at the can. I want no part of Neidermayer. I don't care how he played in the playoffs.
Buffalo Wings Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Full 180 degrees from the way he left the first time. Maybe he has knee surgery in the off season? Seemed to help Neids. I'd take him back for a year. Love the guy's grit and PK, but he's not getting any younger...13 full seasons in the league and he's 36.
LabattBlue Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I'd trade Morrisonn and re-up Monty cheap as our 7th. Pull in a big dman with some skills. I definitely would keep Montador as a 5-6-7 and trade Morrisson(if that is possible). He was completely useless.
deluca67 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 So maybe the perception of what kind of an organization this is to play hockey is changing. Fixed it; though really it's more of a toe-may-toe tah-mah-toe sort of a thing. Maybe he realizes he has no other options. With $23 mil available the Sabres need to do a lot better than Grier and Montador if they plan to take any steps towards being an actual contender.

LabattBlue Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Supposedly, Connolly saw the media and snuck back into a restricted area. Never to be seen again. Perfect way to end his career as a Sabre. No surprise at all.
Weave Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 That concussion sure does explain Miller's more vigorous than usual defence of his crease and our D-men's reaction to bumping. And howinthehell did Hasek not end up with concussions considering all the pucks he purposely saved with his coconut?

How do you figure that the Sabres have 23 mil available to spend?
deluca67 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 How do you figure that the Sabres have 23 mil available to spend? It was $23 mil before they added Brad Moore-Torrez-Boyes, I forgot to make the adjustment. Hopefully they can dump him and get it back up to $23 mil.

I see you got it from capgeek.com. 12 players under contract. 19 mil free. Not as much to spend as it seems.
X. Benedict Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 How do you figure that the Sabres have 23 mil available to spend? It was the projection....with Boyes on now, it is closer to 18m.

IMO, it would be better if they can dump some more salaries, that maybe be too much to hope for from Status Quo.
nobody Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Supposedly, Connolly saw the media and snuck back into a restricted area. Never to be seen again. Doesn't this prove he doesn't have a concussion if he can remember where the restricted area is? :)
nobody Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Vanek on Captaincy: "If it’s something that comes up, then I’ll take the challenge." Here's the part that Vanek was probably thinking: But I know it can only happen if Hecht is no longer on the team since Lindy will pick him.

The cap will go up at least another 3 million this year and more the following year provided the Canadian dollar stays strong. Also, if money is in fact no object, Morrison and Hecht could easily be dispatched to the minors if no takers are found. In addition, Pominville could start the year on LTIR. They can easily add a $7 million forward and a $5 million defenseman and sign all their RFA's as well as McCormick.

Trades make sense if they bring in the pieces...but the right pieces in a trade don't necessarily change the cap situation. That money might go toward locking up RFA's to spreading out reasonable deals.

If they are looking to secure any player long term I would hope it was Myers.
tom webster Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I would like to see Gerbe and Enroth signed to two year deals and that will take more then 10%.
