From what I understand RJ basically has a year to year contract the gives him the power to take time off at points during the season. I'm sure Pegula will do whatever it takes to bring him back for at least one more year. As far as Harry goes, I have no idea what happened to him here (he was great on CBC)but it just hasn't worked too well. Ray has improved quite a bit since he started and makes some salient points in most broadcasts.

As to who will replace RJ one day hopefully 4-5 years off? i thought Dan Dunleavy was by far the best of the subs. Hamilton is a minor league pbp guy, too phony as well. RJ's kid? Sorry, he just doesn't have the voice. And Sylvester? PLEASE GOD NO. He is horrible. I'd rather MSG just turn up the ice mics if it ever came to that.

A wild card if I may- TSN's Chris Cutberth? Let him keep his national game of the week (ala Jon Miller on Sunday Night Baseball)and be the voice of the Sabres every other night. I'm sure Pegula would have to double his salary but he has the $$ right?

I notice this thread hasn't brought up Mark Jeanneret yet. A couple of folks I know didn't like him at all, but I thought he was great for his first few pro outings and would mature nicely.

Also, I have developed a strong preference for many things Rick does, not the least of which is the radio-only level of detail in his play calling. I can see the game when I'm listening to him the radio. Most TV-only ###### blow because they're yakkin' about everything but the play. Rick tells you what's going on on-ice and lets his partner do the jibbery and conjecture- but only outside the whistles. To me it's the only effective, informative, entertaining, and enjoyable way to hear the game.

Mark Jeanneret is awful. No thank you.

You stole the words right from my mouth.

I know the season just ended, but I was curious if there was any word about RJ retiring....

I remember when I was 12 and a classmate mentioned that after a Sabres win Rick Jeanneret was going crazy. I had no idea who he was at that point. So I one night I tuned in to a Sabres game and was entranced by his PBP. He is pretty much the main reason why I'm a diehard Sabres fan. I feel bad for whoever has to come after him. Talk about big shoes to fill.
