Lindy

It wasn't even you. It was HOF talk.

Lindy Ruff deserves the HOF as much as Darryl Talley does.

HOF coaches isn't even a category on its own. I think Al Arbour and Jacque Lemaire are maybe the only recent coaches in the HOF that weren't GM's....Coaches go in as Builders.

So that is probably a no for Lindy..

How about:

11 years

30 teams

16 playoff teams

15 playoff series wins per year

Average playoff series wins per team = 5.5

Lindy Ruff playoff series wins = 5

:censored: disgraceful.

Lindy Ruff playoff series wins = 10 in his 13 years. And now you know why I often refrain from posting...

Apparently, thirteen years is not a large enough sample for some people to form an opinion of Lindy (unless that opinion is that he is a super awesome, praise Jebus he's a Sabre, hall of fame coach). Then there are a bunch of numbers to prove it. Luckily I never learned me my numbers.

The only issue I have with Lindy's record, in terms of being able to judge it, is that it is tied to Darcy. Perhaps I am blinded by my disdain for DR, but it seems to me when DR has provided Lindy with a capable roster, Lindy has been able to take advantage of it.

If it weren't for the kids this season, I really think the Sabres would have not made it to 9th place. So, the roster is what gets in the way of me being able to make up my mind on Lindy, and, of course, the roster is all Darcy.

I guess, if I were to contribute to the theme of the thread, I would say (again) that DR should be put somewhere else in the organization. If Lindy stays, he stays, if he goes, he goes - I'm up for either scenario. If he stays, I agree with whomever said (and where ever it was said on the board) that his assistants need to get shaken up somehow.

I took out Hasek....the same Hasek with 4 Cup showings.

And you know what is disgraceful? Firing a coach after he wins the Jack Adams and a playoff series with an AHL goalie. Maybe Nolan should be in the HOF too?

You are a self-loathing webmaster. Look at the mess you have created and allowed.

I really like Lindy, but it may be time for some new ideas (as long as Marcy is shown the door first). Tampa has a new owner, GM, coach, and turned in a remarkable season with basically the same roster. Let's give Kevin Dineen a shot...

And that roster has an incredible amount of talent chosen very high in the first round (Lecavalier, St. louis, Stamkos, Hedman), thats a nicer core/base to step into and win with then (Vanek, Roy, Pomminstein and Connolly)

Fired. Except he wasn't. He was low-balled. There's quite a difference.

But I think that difference makes his point even more. It would have been more honorable to flat out fire him.

I never thought much of Nolan as a coach on the Sabres or Islanders. But I admit I always liked his bluster.

New GM............he should have taken the deal. Muckler was going to fire him.

1997 called, it wants its thread back. Also, irrelevant to Ruff.

But I can see where your logic train fell right the ###### off the track: Lindy won the Jack Adams. Firing people after winning the Jack Adams is disgraceful. I want to fire Lindy Ruff. Therefore, I am disgraceful. In all probability, I am Charles Wang.

Lindy has been, IMO, a master at changing his "system" to fit his current situation. Built decent systems around a super-hero DOMinant goalie, came out of the lockout with an offense "loaded for Briere", and figured out how to win a bunch of games at the end of this year without a single centerman and the cabbage patch blue line. That said:

1. Should he change the system again for next year, or do the young players improvements just make the current system work better?

2. Most importantly, What are the other teams doing that would work with our personnel?

3. How much impact would the assumed off season acquisitions of a #1/#2 Centerman and a Veteran Defensive Defenseman change this?

[This is intended to be more of an assessment of the team's style and the current state of the NHL than to be a judgement of Lindy.]

Hold up, I am not sure you can count none playoff years. I mean one side of me says yes you can because we should always be in it but the other side says sometimes you have injuries, crappy talent, other issues that keep you from reaching (ie drury and briere leaving made this team suck and you can't blame ruff for that) There are only 4 possible playoffs series a coach could win a year. So thats 52 playoff series in 13 years divided by 10 wins for ruff and you get 5.2, is that great no. But Hes taken 3 teams to the brink and 1 (05-06) would have won and we all know it.

I am not saying that maybe we should look into another coaching option but as of right now unless we can fire the pp coach (its called a 1 timer for the love of god!) than I think we have a good coaching staff. I say give ruff a 1 or 2 yr extension if he doesnt do more with the right players than you are right, part ways.

Side note if ruff won the cup for buffalo this town would lose its mind.

Ruff should be GM, Darcy sucks balls at it and at least ruff has a set and a pulse, I think Darcy is a Zombie.

Lindy and his staff have shown that they do absolutely nothing to motivate or elevate the play of ANYONE on their roster. Worse, they get these kids up from Portland and Rochester before that who DO have that self-motivation and fire under their butts, and they allow that fire to dwindle or go out completely. What other team do you know of who has absolutely NOBODY on it that wants to be Captain? Are you flipping serious? NOBODY??

This team's will to win is as fickle and tenuous as the crowd at HSBC, who sit quiet and muted all game long until the team does something that forces them out of their seats, instead of taking it upon themselves to make a ruckus and scream and yell and do whatever a crowd can do to motivate the players.

And it's these same lame fans who keep defending this coach and his staff and talking about how 10 series wins in 13 years is somehow a good record. Please. It's getting pathetic now.

Darcy keeps drafting high quality players, sending them to Kevin Dineen who, like Randy Cunneyworth before him, knows how to get the best out of them and create even BETTER players than he started with, and then those players crack Lindy's lineup and have to start dealing with ever-changing line combinations and endless PP, PK, and defensive schemes, secret MENSA exams, all the time surrounded by the zombied-out veterans with their glazed over eyeballs and scripted post-game excuses, and what do you know, we have AHL Players of the Year become or compete for Rookies of the Year, and then quickly fall into mediocrity and fade away by their fourth-fifth season with us.

The fact that Terry Pegula obviously sees things differently than the way I just described gives me hope that I'm simply reading things wrong and Lindy and his staff really are capable of creating a Cup winner here. I'm just a fan of 35 years with a high IQ and the ability to see writing clearly written on walls. He's the billionaire. This board, if not the entire world, will obviously see his as the opinion that demands our fidelity and approval.

Let's see what happens. I ain't goin' anywhere, and I love saying I told you so.

This is so true. Campbell never developed under Lindy and still sucks.

This is probably the third or fourth post from you today that I have read that is so critical of everything it is driving me nuts. Is there ANYTHING positive that you see in this organization? I'm not sold on everything yet, and a few of the veteran members of this board have really curbed my cautious optimism, and probably for the better. Either way, there is more credit that this franchise is deserving of than you dish out. There are several other members here that are very critical, yet they still have positives to point out once in a while.

Sure, DR is the definition of mediocrity, and sure, Lindy hasn't won it all yet, but there is more hope here than you portray, but i guess that's just my opinion.

And btw...could you be any more doom and gloom on a Friday? Complaints were due in yesterday I thought...

Jillson :clapping: That's pretty funny.

I guess for the people that wanted Lindy fired it is a sad day.

I'm pretty happy.

FWIW...if there was ever a time to fire Lindy Ruff it was probably around Thanksgiving 2010. I'm glad he wasn't.

Lindy likes "YES DADDY!" types of players.

Probably the reason there is no captain on this team anymore is so that nobody can question Ruff. Ruff doesn't like to get questioned and will make life miserable for those that do. Danny Briere used to do it. Guys that have some spunk and are young get put in their place quickly. Vanek had it when he first came in now he just has the robot face out there. Remember when Stafford was a rookie and jumped Chris Neil to fight him? The key is, if the young guy can get out of Buffalo quick enough, he will still develop. Take MaCarthur and Pyatt for example...both in the system for years but left in their early 20's. Guys like Kotalik, Max, Kalinin.....too late.

I think the best example of what this team is about happened in OT of game 6. Butler got into penalty trouble with some lazy play, then in the OT he stands still and plays patty-cake as Lieno whacks at the puck 3 times to win the game. These kids are so system oriented that when they were playing with emotion early in the series, and a few calls went against them, or they couldn't decipher between gritty and cheating, they go back into robot mode. I don't know if Lindy tells them to, or it is a result on it's own. This team plays almost like a dog that looks at you when you talk to it, and it ###### it's head and is trying to understand you...but it has no idea what the F you want from it.

When you hear Regier live...you want to scratch your own eardrums out.

It's been 13 years, and half this board could have telegraphed the problems this team has run into over the past. Minus 2 years of Hasek, and 2 years of the NHL flipping the rulebook 180 degrees....the tandem of Regier and Ruff is HORRIBLE!

Darcy didn't hold himself accountable for anything today. It was "The NHL needs to make Ryan's head safer." "We need to eliminate 500 hits for the sake of the game..still plenty of hits to go around."

"The grass isn't greener on the other side."

Holy cow.....I want to get excited about the future of this team, but it's like going into a whorehouse and getting the female Steven Wright.

I don't blame people for getting sick of hearing other people complain. But I get sick of watching the same show get a free pass for probably the better half of most of the years you guys have been alive.
