Chester Springs Rich Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Team, I live in the Philly area and watched the Flyers Post Game interviews of the Thrilling game 5 our beloved Sabres won. What I watched, which was then commented on by CSN Host Mike Barkham, leads me to think that an inappropriate comment was made by Mike Leighton, that will today cause heart ache in the Flyers locker room. While Leighton was interviewed, he inferred that it is the responsibility of Defense to try and block the Weber shot from the point, that led to the rebound and goal by Ennis. You watch the replay, yes the Flyers D did just that, to no avail. Leighton making that comment will definitely get perceived as him trying to push blame on the Flyers D as to why the Ennis goal was scored. After the Leighton interview, CSN went back to the post game show and Mike Barkham asked the three other post game analysts if they heard this, only Al Morganti raised his hand to say yes, that is what I heard. Ian Laperrière and Rick Tocchet, two former players with ties in to the Flyers and the dressing room, both denied as to avoid getting involved in this potential controversy. If this controversy builds today at the Flyers practice and scate, I would think that the bad feelings from D to Leighton (who may start tomorrow) will have a spill over effect in to game 6.

Possibly much ado about nothing, but interesting nonetheless. We just need to take care of our barn. We know we can score on all three goalies, and the Sabres are well aware of the Flyers malcontent between the pipes. That's a huge advantage right there.
Dude Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 They can avoid controversy problems by going back to Boucher. He's got a better career GAA than Leighton anyway.
bunomatic Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 The fact that they're pointing fingers in that room is a good harbinger for the sabres. The whining after game 4 was the beginning of this trend and it continues with the goalie pointing fingers at his 'D' which can't be good for the team dynamic. Lets hope the Philly media makes a mountain out of this because it will certainly help to have that infighting happening over there. Is the house of cards about to fall?
Meathead Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 wish i could hear it. its not on nhl.com postgame interview vids

Didn't Miller point some fingers after game 3?
Weave Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 I was thinking something similar. This is no different than Miller's many post game comments in the past when a teammate missed an assignment or six. Wouldn't suprise me at all if the Flyers took it in stride. Granted, I HOPE it causes lockerroom controversy. Still, I doubt it happens.

Weave Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 The #3 goalie calling out his teammates is the same as the current Vezina winner calling people out? Really? I don't care who it was. He was doing nothing more than anyone else that sez,"that wasn't my assignment, it was the other guys". It happens.
X. Benedict Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 The #3 goalie calling out his teammates is the same as the current Vezina winner calling people out? Really?
samothyev Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 I don't care who it was. He was doing nothing more than anyone else that sez,"that wasn't my assignment, it was the other guys". It happens. Wait I am confused here. Is stopping the puck a part of a goalies assignment? This is the 3rd string goalie for crying out loud! Let him get that locker room's panties bunched up. It'll just make tomorrow that much more sweet!!!!!!!! LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!!!!!
SDS Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 The #3 goalie calling out his teammates is the same as the current Vezina winner calling people out? Really? Is it fair to call him the #3 since that is primarily a result of his back injury? Wasn't he slated to be #1 this season?
Taro T Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Is it fair to call him the #3 since that is primarily a result of his back injury? Wasn't he slated to be #1 this season? Considering he's a career minor leaguer that lucked into a job last post-season, IMHO, yes.
Eleven Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Is it fair to call him the #3 since that is primarily a result of his back injury? Wasn't he slated to be #1 this season? He was slated to suck all season just like every other season. Just because his team had his back last year doesn't mean he's a no. 1. Nor does his miracle finals run (built on adrenaline and the rest of the team) make him a no. 1, either.
OverPowerYou Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I can just hear Rick Jeanneret calling the game tomorrow. "And Michael Leighton has lost it! HE has lost it! He's down 4-0 and he's blown his cool, HE'S FLIPPED HIS LID!" I hope it's true
EZBills7 Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Although the Sabres can get to any of these guys, I'd rather see them throw Leighton or Bob back in there than Boucher. I think he's probably the least mentally fragile of the three at this point.

Dude Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 When Miller says it, he has the cache to do it and it's true. Leighton has neither.

I think he's probably the least mentally fragile of the three at this point. Boucher played one bad game. Really, he had one bad period. Whomever the Phils fly with today is going to be tough IMO.
kishoph Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Going with anyone other than BOOHOOCHE would be as stupid as bringing in a minor league thug to replace JEFF CARTER, is WAAAAVIOLETTE that stupid ?
deluca67 Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Boucher played one bad game. Really, he had one bad period. Whomever the Phils fly with today is going to be tough IMO. Going into the game Boucher led the playoffs in .gaa and save %. The Sabres need to get their own act together no matter who is in net for the Flyers. The likelihood they are going to get two huge gifts again this game is slim.

The Sabres won two of the games because of Miller. The third because the Flyers don't have a real goaltender. We need to win a game not because of goaltending. The Flyers up front and on defense are better and deeper-- but it is not too much to ask for one win that is largely attributable to our skaters winning a game.
