spndnchz Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Timmay's a set up man, a playmaker. He looks for plays not shots. Great on the PK this playoff. TODAY, I like him. Just stop losing the puck at the blueline Timmy.

Just stop losing the puck at the blueline Timmy. This almost describes my frustration with TC. He's a top notch puck handler, but he holds onto the puck too long, usually giving it away or negating a scoring chance. On the power play he has too many giveaways. He gets too cerebral looking for the optimum pass that he eventually gives the puck away or doesn't shoot on an open shot. The 2 on 1 he had with Vanek on the wing was a great example. He had a clear shot, didn't take it, instead tried to feather a pass to Vanek and it was deflected, result - no shot on goal and a scoring chance wasted. In the playoffs, its quick shots and capitalizing on rebounds that make a difference (sound familiar?). I'd keep him on the PK, but use someone else with quick hands on the power play.

I remember giving out the old Connolly sigh after this play......... :wallbash: I also remember being happy with his willingness to block shots on the PK........
Dorlack Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Is his contract up May of this year?
wjag Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 ....I know it is vogue to hate on the guy, but for balance, it may be helpful to notice, he's leading the series in faceoffs won, has not taken a minor (on a team that has a parade of minors), leads forwards in the series in blocked shots, and he's been playing the kill with demon possession. for a guy who has never been a goal scorer, and may never recapture his offensive vision, he's sure laying it out there. I don't think there is any use. He is this boards whipping boy and nothing will change that. Some have stated that even if he went on a terror and was named MVP of the SCF they want him gone next year. The board needs someone to hate on and TC is it. Next year after he's gone, a new whipping boy will emerge.
Lanny Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Is his contract up May of this year? Yeah, this is the last year on his contract.
LabattBlue Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 He's a forward. He ought to be good for at least 3-5 over a 27 game stretch. I haven't look at his teammates stats during that period but I can't imagine he has much company as <3 goal scorer in 27 playoff games. Gaustad 36 career playoff games...0 goals. I know goal scoring isn't his thing, but you would thing his style of game would lend to scoring at least a few playoff goals.

He's no all-star, but this probably isn't the right snapshot in time to criticize the guy. He's been a madman this series.

Somebody asked a question and I was just responding to it. He has been far from the worst forward this playoffs, but he hasn't come anywhere close to his play of Game 1 which was phenomenal.

nfreeman Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 TC is like the 3rd baseman in the movie Major League. Has his contract, just needs to show up, doesn't want to risk getting injured anymore. Our best hope is that Gerbe becomes our Wild Thing, sleeps with TC's wife, and brings out the '06 playoffs form for TC. My thoughts on Tim Connolly are that he sucks. Ya got somethin' better to do, do ya? These 3 posts all cracked me up. Nice work. Is his contract up May of this year? Well, June, hopefully. Gaustad 36 career playoff games...0 goals. I know goal scoring isn't his thing, but you would thing his style of game would lend to scoring at least a few playoff goals. He's no all-star, but this probably isn't the right snapshot in time to criticize the guy. He's been a madman this series. Beat me to it. Gaustad has had a great blood-and guts series.
nfreeman Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 ....I know it is vogue to hate on the guy, but for balance, it may be helpful to notice, he's leading the series in faceoffs won, has not taken a minor (on a team that has a parade of minors), leads forwards in the series in blocked shots, and he's been playing the kill with demon possession. for a guy who has never been a goal scorer, and may never recapture his offensive vision, he's sure laying it out there. Regardless of his paycheck, he's gone, what, 27 playoff games without a goal now? That is equivalent to over 1/4 of a regular season. And it's all been crunch time. So he's a defensive specialist now. Big fat hairy deal. Would any of us be happy with a checking line center that had 0 goals over 27 games in the regular season? And especially no goals during the most crucial of times? No fracking way in my case. He's a forward. Even forwards with heavy defensive responsibilities are supposed to put the puck in the net every once in awhile. He's here now and we need him. But if he's still here next season I'll be really, really disappointed. Any goal Tim Connolly scores will be a bonus. (I guess you are probably including the 2007 year when he played in the playoffs but not the regular season) He's spent about a third of his ice time in the series on the kill. He probably killed almost 5 minutes last night. Any observation of his gameplay seems to be informed by goal scoring (which he's never really done) and his contract...which doesn't matter one bit in post-season. I don't care who scores the goals as long as the team is doing the things necessary to win. And so far, he's been doing the things necessary to win. I guess it come down to whether you think someone can play well and not score goals. Public Service Message: Tim Connolly is not going to suddenly become a goal scorer this post season. Nor will he become a goaltender, a fighter, the teams inspirational speech-maker, nor is he likely to manage a smile beyond a odd kind of facial palsy. But if he continues to play as he has been ...it is just what the team needs. Timmay's a set up man, a playmaker. He looks for plays not shots. Great on the PK this playoff. TODAY, I like him. And these are just excellent hockey posts. I don't have much to add other than I really am starting to think TC's body is breaking down and he doesn't have many more seasons left in the NHL. I give him credit for taking not one but many for the team. He's definitely disappointed us in terms of not meeting expectations, but he wants to win and he's not holding back.
drnkirishone Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I am less disappointed in TC this post season then I have been in awhile. Finally he is doing the little things good (faceoffs, backchecking, PK, defensive assignments) but his giveaways both on the PP and at even strength in the offensive zone are killing me. If he stopped giving the puck away I think he would be one of our most valuable forwards in this series.

Seems a few months ago we were arguing Gaustad and his value, namely his lack of toughness. The guy's been like a badger this series and I love it.

I commend all the guys that have shown a willingness to get in front of the shots and take one for the team. True grit.
Kelly the Dog Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I agree with X. He's been a valuable player in this series. I was also surprised that unprovoked in an interview in this morning's Snews, Ennis listed Connolly second as one of the veteran leaders on the team that help the young guys, between Grier and Miller. "It's just fun," Ennis said of the playoffs. "We're young but we're a pretty hard-working, driven team. We've got great leaders -- [Mike] Grier and [Tim] Connolly and Millsie, Goose, [Rob] Niedermayer -- they kind of keep us young guys on an even keel. They teach us a lot, and some guys are just excited to play."
eball Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Beat me to it. Gaustad has had a great blood-and guts series. Unfortunately, his one non-play (leaving Briere alone at the side of the net) is what's sticking out in my mind...but aside from that I agree he has been a beast physically.
Dorlack Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 There was a taste of a playoff game without TC... Was he missed?
ThePebble19 Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 There was a taste of a playoff game without TC... Was he missed? Other than the obvious one-man down for the rest of the game, I can't say it looked much different. They killed the lone penalty off without him, so that went well. He has been doing well on faceoffs though, so we will see what happens in game 7.
Eleven Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 There was a taste of a playoff game without TC... Was he missed? Not even on the 5-on-3. Goodbye, Timmy.
ThePebble19 Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Not even on the 5-on-3. Goodbye, Timmy. Yep, it is truly unfortunate the path his career has taken him down. It really does suck. Hope he can recover, and keep playing, but it won't be with this team.
North Buffalo Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Question, should Carter receive a suspension for that hit? Maybe should be a separate discussion.
