Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Much like when??? You could be referring to the Kabbalah, HGTV, an episode of the Antiques Road show, Ecclesiastes, or a Hitchcock movie for all I know. Maybe Darcy can trade some of the roster on PawnStars. "Oh, I have a beaut for you here eh. A skilled playmaking center who is a point a game player at times and has been killing penalties like a monster." "Whadda ya want for him?" "Well......I bought him for $4.5 million" "I'll give you $400K"
spndnchz Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Positive thinking is usually a game people play to excuse off their shortcomings or to justify their denial. I understand the morale aspect of working for someone who wants to win.....but by saying you want to win or saying you are going to win, doesn't mean you are going to win. If anything, leaving it in the hands of "positive thinking" only delays the inevitable crash of absolute failure when you do not have the horses in the barn to get it done. A real winner doesn't need to convince themself they are going to win or convince others. Their actions are self-explanitory. Setbacks are just setbacks.....and if the setbacks pile up, then just maybe you aren't a winner in that given aspect of life. The scary thing is.....we've got a guy with $3 billion. If he thinks something works....he can see it through. If he is wrong, we all suffer. Nice guy. He seems to be confusing the role of parent of a biological child who didn't ask to be brought into this world with the role of chief executive of grown men who make millions of dollars and are on an equal playing playing field. It's one thing to treat employees and fans with respect. It's another to allow continued subpar results in the name of loyalty, especially when all the actors in this play are financially secure. I can't agree with anything but the bolded part. Did u listen to the whole show? Did u hear him say "I had no idea that people attribute the teams success to myself" or something to that effect. Surely u feel Pegula>SP? What subpar results do u think TP has suufered u with? He's been here for two months, had a week to change a team, it's not like u can trade during the playoff. Ur calling the kettle black before its even on the stove. The slate is clean in my book. We'll see what happens.
Weave Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Too smart to be marketed to, too cynical to recognize it as marketing. You're out of your element, Donnie.

We'll see what happens. I agree that the franchise is in stronger hands and Pegula is a straight shooter. His "positive thinking" approach has been talked about in every public statement he has made. It isn't "hey folks, get behind the team...we're doing some good things here." He talks with a tinge of disdain for critical critique and is misguided in his comparisons of millionare professional male athletes and their relationship with the media to that of a minor teenage girl and her relationship with her father. It struck me the first time he said anything.....and people said give him time....and he has come back to the same mantra every time. He believes this team has what it takes. The same hockey decision makers are in charge and have his full confidence. When you combine that with his positive thinking approach, we can be stuck in Hockey Purgatory for another decade. I'm all for being positive and fully supporting those in my circle....but I make sure that I honestly disect the performance and capabilities of everyone involved. In horseracing, I've seen emotions cloud the judgement of many a person...especially when they have the money to back up poor decisions. They get attached to a horse, have pie in the sky dreams regarding it's ability, and run the horse in over it's head. In the mean time the barn looks bad, stats go down, nobody makes any money, and eventually things putter to a halt. Almost every owner says they want to win the Kentucky Derby. You gotta have the right horse, a capable supporting cast, and a lot of luck. Pegula can feed this crew as many carrots, buy it as many toys, and give it the warmest blanket he wants.....but it won't make a horse that isn't capable of winning the Derby, win the Derby. They may go from losing 15 lengths, to losing 12 lengths.....but until I see different, it's still the same horse, jockey and trainer.

Positive thinking to him is only one piece. He's in the room when it comes to the trade deadline. I'm sure he's around when it comes to bettering the 'team' in the off season. I haven't seen or heard him hang onto one player as the answer. It about perfecting the team, having those players that know what it takes to win and have a goal of winning. Lindy's got that goal, Miller too, along with a few others that see it as more than just a game. The same hockey decision makers aren't in charge anymore. I expect a different DR this off season. (and will be pissed if he is the same) TPegs is the seed center. You should be excited. It really is the shape of what u want. FWIW, I hope they get through this round to show us more of who should be here next year.

I'm happy with the community outreach. They are doing some good things. I've even said that if they win just 1 series, Darcy deserves to come back after their mid-season non-drowning. The best thing about Pegula so far is that he speaks the truth, even if it isn't wise or PC. Like throwing rowdy Canadians out, and a little barb about Lindy and the sauce. He's the Darryl Talley of Sabre soundbites.
LGR4GM Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 If Pegula does not have Darcy bring in a TOP Center and a TOP def, then I may go back to my old gallisano tradition of not buying merchandise or tickets until something gives. If TC gets resigned I might have to start rooting for whoever we are playing against because this BullSH!T has gone on long enough. Time for major change.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Oh go have some fruit loops. That's one heck of a subconcious pull of sugary breakfast cereals given the discussion.
LGR4GM Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Oh go have some fruit loops. I totally have them and could eat them but my ferret is dying so I am sticking with what I said.
Marvelo Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 maybe they can try Sekera at forward cause it don't look like he's a good d-man, at least at this stage.

We want an owner willing to spend the money and have the right people in place. I don't necessarily want him to tell Darcy to bring in certain players. If Darcy fails at this then I agree, we need Pegs to make a move at the GM position.

Supposed to be very relaxing.
