X. Benedict Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Why do you like the heartless dudes? You seem to be such a well rounded person.....I really do get confused. If Connolly and Sekera were hanging off a bridge...I would reach for Connolly...although be it with a Rob Niedermayer regular season effort type of reach. What a characterization. I don't think Sekera is heartless at all. I like his skating and talent as much as I dislike his 9¢ noggin. It is feast or famine with the guy. I'm not ready to give up on him however.

I'm not saying he doesn't have talent and isn't worth a roster spot.....I just think he is overrated big time by the fans. To hear Darcy describe his game last month....I couldn't believe that he actually believed what he was saying.
Weave Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 You're right....he's awesome. By the way....ask Rob Ray what he thinks about Sekera being too hurt to play. What did Ray have to say about Sekera not playing?
Tom Backyard Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 not unless he gets himself some white skates...

To hear Darcy describe his game last month....I couldn't believe that he actually believed what he was saying. I think it was easy to be intoxicated by Sekera's first week in March. The guy was unbelievable for about 9 days. That was a good thing, wasn't it? I think a lot of people in the league took notice. I didn't hear whatever it was Darcy said.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 What did Ray have to say about Sekera not playing? He said right before the playoffs that the injury was nothing and he would be fine. It wasn't some deep secret, Lindy, double-agent talk. I would like to hear what he has to say now.
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I'm chuckling a little: Zhnitnik had over 1000 games Housley probably 1500 or more. Sekera is just coming into his own in this league. I see more Brian Campbell than Zhitnik or Housley. FWIW. Couldn't agree more... earlier on when he was a call up i always thought of him as the future Campbell. My expectations have since changed... but there are certainly similarities there.
Derrico Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Come on Ghost how can you be a legit Sabres fan and have that avatar? Just trying to get some attention? You can post all the constructive critism you want but by having that avatar what critism are you trying to portray? We need a new owner? Man, sometimes I really do think you're a closet leafs or bruins fan....
Patty16 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 You're right....he's awesome. By the way....ask Rob Ray what he thinks about Sekera being too hurt to play. I think he will be down the road. My point was he is not worse than zhitnik in his own end. At the same point in their careers zhitnik was -40 more.

That they were never bad, but if people constantly say they are bad they will play bad. I am also not a fan of this Hockey Heaven trademark that is getting crammed down my throat. If they keep it up, I will produce T-shirts of Hockey Purgatory with cartoon images of Darcy and Lindy so I can avoid the lawsuits. I like them for 90% of what they do....but the 10% they don't address may hinder 90% of on ice performance over the next 5 years.
DumbPuck Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I've never really cared for the "Hockey Heaven" namesake. Call me morbid but to me it means that Buffalo is where 'good' hockey players go after they pass on.

If he really believes that, I can't wait to hear DR tell him in the off-season how all the players on the current roster are great and there is no reason for any significant turnover.

Can we please give the ownership group an offseason of work to try and improve the club before throwing them under the bus? If it's October 10th and we have primarily the same roster then flame away.

THERE IS NO FRICKING GLASS!!!!!!!!  Positive thinking is usually a game people play to excuse off their shortcomings or to justify their denial. I understand the morale aspect of working for someone who wants to win.....but by saying you want to win or saying you are going to win, doesn't mean you are going to win. If anything, leaving it in the hands of "positive thinking" only delays the inevitable crash of absolute failure when you do not have the horses in the barn to get it done. A real winner doesn't need to convince themself they are going to win or convince others. Their actions are self-explanitory. Setbacks are just setbacks.....and if the setbacks pile up, then just maybe you aren't a winner in that given aspect of life. The scary thing is.....we've got a guy with $3 billion. If he thinks something works....he can see it through. If he is wrong, we all suffer. Nice guy. He seems to be confusing the role of parent of a biological child who didn't ask to be brought into this world with the role of chief executive of grown men who make millions of dollars and are on an equal playing playing field. It's one thing to treat employees and fans with respect. It's another to allow continued subpar results in the name of loyalty, especially when all the actors in this play are financially secure.

If he really believes that, I can't wait to hear DR tell him in the off-season how all the players on the current roster are great and there is no reason for any significant turnover. He did. He at least admitted the only changes to this organization are Brad Boyes, a carpet and a few quotes. Then he used that to justify their turnaround to positive thinking, saying they were good all along, they just needed to stop hearing they weren't good.

Yeah well, I get the feeling he'll be singing a different tune in a year or two, unless some personnel changes are made. Would've liked to see that happen sooner rather than later, but I can wait. Regier won't be around forever. Just seems like it.

You are suffering? If so it seems pre-mature to me. Critism can serve a positive function. However, Pegula has had the team for less than 60 days. There seems to be little I can think of yet to justify these sufferings.
Taro T Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I think he will be down the road. My point was he is not worse than zhitnik in his own end. At the same point in their careers zhitnik was -40 more. Zhitnik was almost always playing against the other team's top line & almost always paired w/ Richard Smehlik-clears-the-puck---not-out. If that doesn't skew the +/-, nothing will. Zhitnik was very underrated. As others have stated, Sekera's correct comparison is Soupy. So far, he's ahead at comparable point in his career.

And I'm sure some people didn't make much of the lumber pile, box of nails, and trimming of the rosebush until it was too late. Much like then, it seems like only a dozen or so here are really worried about it.

You could be referring to the Kabbalah, HGTV, an episode of the Antiques Road show, Ecclesiastes, or a Hitchcock movie for all I know.
