North Buffalo Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 The interference wasn't called for hitting the puckcarrier (Leino?), it was called for hitting Richards before Cody got to the other Phlyer. Not sure what you are referring to as the 'face slam' on Gerbe. But even if that one goes the Sabres' way, it's still 5 legit calls against the Sabres and 2 against the Phlyers. Flat out simple, the Sabres have to play smarter and better from here on out. Miller stole one for them. Sorry Taro, while the refs seemed to get some of the Sabres penalties' correct, but I disagree, the Cody one was more imagined. They let two guys hanging all over Myers on a rush up ice go. They didn't call a number of interferences on Philli blocking players on the forecheck, including a blatant one on Stafford. Sorry that was one of the most lopsided one's I have seen. Even on the 5-4 power play a Phyler player grabbed a Sabres on the half-boards to prevent a clear and then Morrison was sent to the box for the 5-3. These are a couple that I remember off the top of my head from last night and I remember RJ commenting on one no call saying that was ridiculous.... The good thing was the Sabres didn't quit on that B.S.
Wraith Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 MSG reported the three stars as: 1) Ryan Miller 2) Patrick Kaleta 3) Sergei Bobrovsky Is it possible NHL.com just has it wrong?
samothyev Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 They have Myers as the Third Star. That's accurate as he was easily their second best player tonight. His sophomore slump just cannot get any worse. A real liability tonight. Sarcasm sarcasm sarcasm LOVE IT!!! Let's go BUFFALO!!!!

The good thing was the Sabres didn't quit on that B.S. That interference call was unbelievable. Cody is skating right to the puck carrier and Richards gets in his way. It should have been interference on Richards. I just watched it again and they show Richards smiling at the bench. I think even he knew he got away with one. It goes both ways, though, because Kalete hit someone square in the face and there was no call.
wjag Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 I'll give you that the refs pocketed their whistles in the last 4 minutes of the game, but what calls that went against the Sabres prior to that weren't penalties and which calls did the Phlyers get away with? The Sabres inability to clear the puck from the zone was their own fault, not the refs. They'll have to play better than they did today to win the series (unless Miller continues to stand on his head, and even then ...) but the cool thing is, they didn't outplay Filly, but still came away w/ the W. I saw it that way too. The penalties were the result of unrelenting offensive zone pressure. Montador hauling down Briere. Myers tripping Lieno. I think what most folks dont realize was the second penalty on the 5-on-3 was called up ice (behind the camera angle). I saw the refs hand go up and said, dear god, not another. The play continued and RJ didn't say anything right away. Razor I'm pretty sure tried to explain it after the TV timeout. Could they have given the Sabres one or two more, probably.
rbochan Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 It should have been: 1. Miller 2. Bobrovsky 3. Kaleta or Butler
Marvelo Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 I remember a playoff game way back when at the old Spectrum when John LeClair (I think) jammed the puck into the net from behind the goal and under the net...and it counted! These big city teams, especially Philly and Boston, are completely corrupt. Anyway they can have their 3 stars, I'll take the V.

SwampD Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 What??? I thought he was great. Yes, a few turnovers but nothing major. He was physical, cool with the puck and just steady In our zone he was a beast, but strangely enough, it was in the offensive zone where I thought he was a liability. It was there that I don't think he collected one D to D pass last night, and that, against the Flyers, can be deadly. They thrive on those defensive turnovers at the blue line leading to breakaways. Let's just hope it was First Playoff Game of the Year Jitters and that he will settle down tomorrow.
Buffalo Wings Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 It should have been: 1. Miller 2. Bobrovsky 3. Kaleta or Butler Gaustad Fixed. I can see Kaleta with a star, but Gaustad was a bigger influence, IMO.
Sabre Dance Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Philly media votes Van Riemsdyk as the #1 star in a game their team loses 1-0 and our goalie stood on his head many times and ended up with 35 saves? Wow, what an insult...I can't remember too many games where a goalie gets a shutout and was outstanding the entire game and wins the game and gets voted the number 2 star behind a guy that didn't get it done for the home team... Yeah, take your #1 star, we'll take the win ######! F You Philly... What do you expect from a city where the fans scream the word, "...SUCKS!" after every visiting player is introduced. Very adolescent behavior. I would say that this kind of behavior is very ignorant, but the Flyer fans (and press) are actually quite hockey savvy. All of it is done for effect. They still want to channel the "Broad Street Bullies" (as evidenced by playing a video of the very late Kate Smith singing "God Bless America" before the game. Let Kate rest in peace, for heaven's sake!) All of this crap should be seen for what it is - trying to get into the oppositions head. If you ignore it (or better yet make fun of it), it becomes superfluous. I find it fascinating that the Flyers' fan base hasn't really changed even after nearly 4 decades. Maybe it is something in the water.....
inkman Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Has there ever been a Sabres game where someone hasn't bitched about the officiating? BTW, the word is officiating not reffing. Ugh!! I think blaming officials is a low brow, cop out mentality. There certainly have been cases of poor officiating in professional sports, but fans point to it WAY too often.

Ugh!! I think blaming officials is a low brow, cop out mentality. There certainly have been cases of poor officiating in professional sports, but fans point to it WAY too often. I agree. I may complain about some calls during a game, but if you take a step back, last night was actually fair in the fact that the Sabres earned most of their penalties. The only game that I really felt that the officiating was bogus was the Carolina game where MAG won it in OT. Otherwise, I think it really is a cop out most times
JoDo Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 They still want to channel the "Broad Street Bullies" (as evidenced by playing a video of the very late Kate Smith singing "God Bless America" before the game. Let Kate rest in peace, for heaven's sake!) I actually like the way they do the "anthem". How is she not resting in "peace" by honoring her and remembering her?
BRH Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 They didn't call a number of interferences on Philli blocking players on the forecheck, including a blatant one on Stafford. Bingo. They were running basketball plays in the offensive zone...setting picks left and right after dropping the puck off to a shooter. It would have taken just one call to put an end to that nonsense. Never came.

IKnowPhysics Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 This just in: Philly media is biased for Philly. They do this. A lot. Keep it in mind when you're reading Philly sports news.
Kristian Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 F$%# the three stars, I'll take the win any day over three stars of the game This.
