matter2003 Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Philly media votes Van Riemsdyk as the #1 star in a game their team loses 1-0 and our goalie stood on his head many times and ended up with 35 saves? Wow, what an insult...I can't remember too many games where a goalie gets a shutout and was outstanding the entire game and wins the game and gets voted the number 2 star behind a guy that didn't get it done for the home team... Yeah, take your #1 star, we'll take the win ######! F You Philly...
will Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 that is outrageous and flat out irresponsible. i demand a recount.
DumbPuck Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 They can have all three stars each night ... I'll be happy with this little Stanley Cup trinket ;-)

dEnnis the Menace Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 F$%# the three stars, I'll take the win any day over three stars of the game
Tyrannustyrannus Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 who cares my 3 stars: Miller Gaustad Grier
billsrcursed Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 who cares my 3 stars: Miller Gaustad Grier No love for Kaleta? He did score the game-winner... Why do we expect anything else from Philly media???
sabre31_98 Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 They have Myers as the Third Star. That's accurate as he was easily their second best player tonight. His sophomore slump just cannot get any worse. A real liability tonight.

I couldn't care less, but now I am quite curious who decides the stars.

The Sabres inability to clear the puck from the zone was their own fault, not the refs. They'll have to play better than they did today to win the series (unless Miller continues to stand on his head, and even then ...) but the cool thing is, they didn't outplay Filly, but still came away w/ the W.

That call of interference was a fn joke..Mcmormick hit him when he had the puck...How can the ref miss that??Did he think the sta puff marshmallow man had the puck on the other side of the rink???? My god that was horrendous!!!!!!How bout the face slam on Gerbe 1 minute befroe that they somehow couldnt see...Abraham saw that one and put it in the stone tablets...WTF

Not sure what you are referring to as the 'face slam' on Gerbe. But even if that one goes the Sabres' way, it's still 5 legit calls against the Sabres and 2 against the Phlyers. Flat out simple, the Sabres have to play smarter and better from here on out. Miller stole one for them.

BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 I think the home media just votes in the press box. No, all of the accredited media votes, not just home,
Punch Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 No, all of the accredited media votes, not just home, Typically, it's only the home town media... according to the Denver Post visiting media present in the press box can be included, depending on the city, although I've never heard that before. It's definitely not the case in Philly, not that it matters. FWIW, Wikipedia says "Media representatives of the home team make the selections." The history of the Three Stars is pretty interesting, and I'd never heard it before: "Three stars were first awarded in the 1936–37 NHL season as a means for Imperial Oil (Hockey Night in Canada's then new principal sponsor) to advertise its “Three Star” brand of gasoline[1]. In addition, it was seen as a way to promote the game's best stars of the time[1]. After the sponsorship ended in 1976, the tradition remained on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's flagship hockey show[1]." So much for the sanctity of hockey tradition!
