... Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Sheesh, why does a critical observation have to turn into, "you think they suck" all the stinking time. (not directled at you SM, more of a general comment) No worries! I don't think that's where we're going with this conversation. I'm trying to convince you guys that, essentially, this was ONE game. A lot of you are down on the top 6 for not bringing the offense last night - I'm there, too. But, that's tempered by the realization that last night's game simply wasn't a game for offense on either side. And that it's evident the coaches on both sides planned a low-scoring game. Give them another game or two before sincerely assessing where the offense is at.
LGR4GM Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 flyers fans are now pointing to last year when the rallied from being 3-0 to beat boston... We aint boston and thats only happend 3 times in 100 years so fail. We won a game and need to focus on the next, Miller will need more offensive support down the road although he has allowed 1 goal in like 110 minutes of play. we need to survive the round and hope leopold and sekera and roy get back because we need them. That said Gragani has either scored or been involved in 2 big goals for this team so I say sit morrison when sekera gets back. Also when roy comes back if that happens put gerbe boyes and goose on a line. Put Roy and ennis and staff on a line and see if that works. Pronger i feel may return tomorrow. - LETS GO BUFFALO!!!
MattPie Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 As for Kaleta ignoring gerbs to do his little dance... Eh he got excited and wanted to rub it in, he hugged him when everyone got together. Going with that argument, Brad May skated past the entire team clear to the other end of the ice for the May-Day goal. That selfish jerk.

That selfish jerk. lol yea, but I meant Kaleta wanted to rub into the flyers fans and team. He seems like hed beat someone down if they honestly beat on gerbs
Stormin Norman Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Game two will tell us much about our offense. Last night was the classic Lindy Ruff defensive, patient, boring, road hockey game that has, without a speck of doubt, been extremely effective all season long. The Gaustad line thrived because they excel at the forecheck, and that was an important part of last night's strategy for that line. Our road record was pretty amazing over the entire year. So kudos to Lindy for pulling another one out, this time in the playoffs. The game on Saturday SHOULD look different. I believe he'll have the team pressing more on offense and creating chances - even at the expense of exposing Miller and the defense - because, in the end, what does he have to lose? We won a road game, which is always the objective (get one of the first two on the road). No, the Sabres need to go for broke. We need to step on Philly's collective necks here. Show we're willing to go for broke to come out ahead 2-0, leaving the Flyers with overwhelmingly small odds of coming back in the series as it shifts to Buffalo. Can't stop without this comment: another officiating home job that the team had to overcome, too! GO SABRES!
nfreeman Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Scoring. GPG 2011 Philly 3rd 2010 Boston 30th Very true, but that doesn't relate to the underlying discussion of the top 6 being ineffective on the forecheck and in creating scoring chances against both teams. This year's Flyers are not the physical force Boston was or is. And their goalie tandem last year (Boston) was a lot stronger. Where are seeing that anyone is arguing that the Sabres top 6 were effective last night? No one is making that point. The "pretending" thing is a straw man. Why must you go back to last April to try and back up a contention that, arguably, is hardly valid this April? The Sabres have played a lot of hockey, really good hockey more recently, since last April. Why is it, then, hard to believe that they can carry that game over to the playoffs? The kind of offensive game you're after didn't exist for either team last night. The score was 1-0! That was the plan - you're better off critiquing the coaches for the defensive game-plan than the players for trying to get something done in that environment. I think this series will boil down more to game-plans and coaching, hence the reason I think Saturday's game will see more offense from both sides. Well, Pronger is certainly a big loss, but I think you're in a very small minority if you're arguing that Philly isn't a very physical team. Who said it's hard to believe that they can keep playing well? I said that the top 6 was ineffective last night, just as they were last spring. I think it's reasonably likely that they will improve, but there's also a frightening likelihood that they won't -- because they haven't done it yet, either last year or last night. And again, the team pitching a shutout doesn't mean that Philly's top 6 was as bad as the Sabres'. Philly created many more chances than the Sabres did.

Oh if Gragani continues this play there will be a long list of players in the press box before him. Well, atleast two: Morrison, Monty.

I know its way to early to say this for certain but I LOVE how our young def are playing and it should be interesting going forward. Morrissonn has a year left on his contract and I have seen more from others than him all year. Time for him to go away n use his salary on someone else like weber, or butler who I have seen great strides from. The catch is we would all have to be willing to be patient with these def is they were here for long term, there are some growing pains that they still will go through.

I'll be honest with you, I didn't like Butler much before this season, specifically the second half of this year. He has really turned it on and impressed me as of late! Pretty nice turn around in my opinion! I'm excited about the defense core that we have coming up!
That Aud Smell Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 I think it's reasonably likely that they will improve, but there's also a frightening likelihood that they won't -- because they haven't done it yet, either last year or last night. the top-6 does need to do more. i don't think we win a 7-game series with what they did last night. that said, i did feel as though our top-6 was better last night than they were last april. it's hard to compare them over that stretch of time and against different opponents, obviously. and some of my perspective may be colored by what the team has done since the new year and all of the pegul-aid i have imbibed. still, so long as we avoid another recchi-kennedy incident, we should be okay. EDIT: not that kennedy was top-6.

LabattBlue Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 The plan clearly needs to be shoot low and hard from outside on bob and he will give up a huge rebound that you can bury. So based on how the only goal of Game 1 was scored, this should be our "plan" for the rest of the series? Do you actually believe half of the stuff you post?

Do you actually believe half of the stuff you post? I will be blunt, I do not like you. You rarely post stuff of value you just rip apart other peoples posts. To answer your sarcastic condescending question, no. I think they should shoot low on boberann because he gave up a ton of rebounds last night that were fairly large but the sabres did not capitalize on. For the next game I will count every shot that there is at least a 5 foot rebound from and then we can discuss it. Miller as a goaltender deflects a lot more pucks off to the sides or absorbs them. We do not see a great deal of rebounds that deflect into the slot. The sabres need to shoot low because I feel that boberann has a decent glove hand. Shoot low and get some deflections and rebounds and you could open the rookie up. I believe everything I post, why? Because when I wrote it I was obviously thinking it. Now if someone came to me and said well there is this fact or stat or reason that this is incorrect I would consider that. But unless you can show me that shooting low on boberann will not result in rebounds and he will absorb at least 90% of the shots than I am sticking to my guns that at least 50% of the time Boberann gives up a rebound. Thank you for trolling and adding nothing of value to the conversation

Bob seemed to have a pretty good glove-hand, but from what I've seen from the past two games he doesn't control the rebounds like, oh, Miller I guess. Miller rarely if ever lets a rebound go up the middle. The shots need to get through and there needs to a body or two up front to collect the rebound.
LGR4GM Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011   now see this gives a proof to something that I said upthread and ergo that helps to establish something as fact over theory. Respond more with the lol face it is fascinating to watch. Do you have any real hockey thoughts here? or is trolling more fun? but I am done with it. We clearly do not get along so in spirit of the playoffs I will disregard your trolling.

When someone posts something that you don't agree with, you respond. That's how a message board works. Don't worry, you'll catch on eventually. I guess 1000+ posts in a month isn't enough for you to understand the concept. Maybe you need to double your volume.

Well considering that the thread you are referring to was for centers that there have been rumors for them moving and that the thread has been dead for over a month and that the Stamkos discussion was not started by me, Pavelski i still think IMO is a possible trade candidate although if he keeps scoring ot goals in playoff games thats gone. See that was reasoning... You just do not like me and so you attack me I get it. What did you think of the game? Do you have some analysis you would like to offer although I must leave shortly.
