BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 So my brother moved to Vermont earlier this year and wants to be able to watch the Playoffs so he is thinking about getting Center Ice. Before he drops the $80 he wants to be sure it is worth it. So does anyone with CI know if they will broadcast all/any the games? Specifically, if a game is on VS (which his service provider doesn't carry) will it or the MSG feed be on CI or is it blackout.? Does Center Ice even show any playoff games? Thanks in advance!

Yes Center Ice carries playoff games. What I have found in past is that when on VS its blacked out on CI channels. So get ready to hear the Canes play by play announcers hating us

All the games are on VS or NBC except Games 2 and 6. http://sabres.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=559230&navid=DL|BUF|home. edit: Sorry games 2 and 7
BetweenThePipes00 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 If the game is on Versus, it is not on Center Ice at all ... so he would be screwed ... BUT ... those "joined in progress" Versus games (1 and 5) are on Center Ice ... they are 7:30 starts and Versus has 7 p.m. games and they put the end of the 7:30 game on and try to take credit for "having the game" ...
BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks for the help. Sounds like he is better off just trying to find a bar in the area. Although he would probably end up spending more than $80.

Anyone know if that means the game would be blacked-out on Center Ice once Versus picks it up? I sure hope not since I don't have Versus and I'd be pissed if I can't watch the very end of those games. :(

MSG’s Hockey Night LIVE! will air nightly at 11 p.m. beginning this Saturday, featuring detailed analysis and discussion on Sabres/Flyers series by host Al Trautwig and their panel of hockey experts. SAWEEEEEEET !!!!!
BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Did anyone else catch this? SAWEEEEEEET !!!!! I guess games 1 and 5 are JIPs so they aren't really on VS.
Marvelo Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 this NHL TV package is sure obscure/confusing/expensive. What a garage league.
wjag Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 this NHL TV package is sure obscure/confusing/expensive. What a garage league. It's a bargain compared to the NFL package.
Sabre_fan_from_SriLanka Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I bought CI online this year (had the tv package before) and its worked out great so far. If a game is on versus that game will not be on CI, but it will be available for replay 48 hrs from the time the game ends. But with regards to the games that are going to be JIP, they better show the games on CI. They've always shown all playoff games on CI as long its not on national tv (Versus, NBC). LETS GO BUFFALOOO.....
mrjsbu96 Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 it is worth it, just to pick up the first two rounds of games alone, and you should still pick up Coach's Corner for a couple of rounds. Unfortunately, once we are in semis, adn definitely the finals, there is only one game going on at a time and VS will get that feed and no more Center Ice....

Knightrider Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 this NHL TV package is sure obscure/confusing/expensive. What a garage league. I think I paid $150ish for the whole season online. Sometimes it might be confusing, but it is in no way expensive... The NFL is way behind the NHL on this. With that said, I would not recommend CI for the post season, only, as there are many more games blacked out because of better national network coverage.

I agree. Center Ice is well worth it for the entire season. I couldn't fathom paying half the price for an entire season for parts of two rounds of the playoffs. I'm just glad Directv and Versus ended their pissing match last season. Having to go to my parents or a buddy's house to watch the games we played on Versus was rough last season. At least they got it worked out before the regular season ended.

We had to have the local cable come out and hook up just so we could get Versus. So we had Direct Tv, Cable, and XM all running so we wouldn't miss a thing. $$$$$$ but worth it for Sabres Hockey  As soon as Direct Tv and Versus became friends again, we discoed the cable.
TheMadCap Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Have had CI on DTV for several years now. It is hands down the BEST value in sports. For ~170 bucks, you get hockey for ~ half the year. Although I do agree that the best thing to do is buy prior to the season starting to get maximum value. Even better, if you have DTV, call and talk to Customer Retention and they will probably give you a discount. I called em up prior to this season and just ASKED if they could help me out since I didn't have enough free cash to buy CI. They gave me 150 bucks off, so I got CI for a season for $21 bucks! I can confirm what others have said in this thread, if the game is scheduled to be on Versus, it will be completely blacked out on CI channels. Otherwise, CI will carry the games that are not on Versus or NBC...

Personally, I will NEVER not get Center Ice again. So cheap in the grand scheme of things. For NFL, the <=10 Sundays that I'm actually at home (not out of town or actually in WNY for the holidays), it's not worth it to get the ridiculous NFL package; catching it at the bar ten times a year is definitely less expensive, and includes beer and food.

I would buy CI in a heart beat if they would get their act together and offer all the games in HD. From what I have seen from during the free previews is some of the games are of such low picture quality they are unwatchable. Would the NFL even dream of showing a game in SD with a stretched picture?

Would the NFL even dream of showing a game in SD with a stretched picture? Until about 3 years ago, the NFL only had ~1/2 the games in HD, so my guess would be YES they would. For the most part, all of the Canadian broadcasts on CI aren't HD and a handful of southern team's games aren't HD. But all the other CI broadcasts are HD (the Phlyers aren't on DTV CI, not sure if Comcast puts them on other cable providers' CI's). So I'd say ~80% of games have at least 1 HD feed. Not sure why the contract is set up such that the Canadian feeds aren't in HD. (I could have sworn the Rogers telecasts were in HD last year.)

When ever I look at the schedule they only have 1 or 2 games listed as HD, and even then your carrier may not show it in HD. It is just another example of why the NHL needs to get a better TV contract. CI probably doesn't make the cable and satellite companies enough money for them to use the bandwidth to show 10 games in HD at once on a schedule packed night. From NHL.com: "HOW MANY GAMES WILL I SEE IN HIGH DEFINITION? The number of HD games you will see in NHL CENTER ICE will vary across cable and satellite providers. For technical reasons such as bandwidth and channel capacity, one provider may choose to air both feeds of a game in HD, while another one may not air the same amount of feeds or games in HD. This is at the discretion of each cable/satellite provider and it can vary across NHL Center Ice distributors and even individual systems of a distributor. In addition, please be aware that for a variety of reasons, not all HD games are available for use in NHL Center Ice across all NHL Center Ice distributors."
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 i have both ci and st i couldnt live without either. plus i have sirius so I can sync the radio feed and tv feed for NFL and only have to do that for hockey when game is on VS or blacked out because they are playing the canes. Gosh I sure hope we dont Foresburg for any of our games can stand that mother.

I think I have only been forced to watch one other game in SD but every sabres game in HD.
