dEnnis the Menace Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I'm pretty sure the players chose Rivet as their last captain. Perhaps Ruff approved of the decision... but it was a player choice as he was a practice-time leader in the pre-season before his appointment. Yes, Rivet was chosen by the players, but I can't find where it is written somewhere to back that. I remember I was shocked that they chose the newest guy in the locker room to be their Captain, but hey, to each his own.
Eleven Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 The team came out of the gate in '08-'09 pretty strong (6-0-2) and that they were actually playing rather physically until Rivet went out w/ his shoulder injury, right? They were 5-0-1 and looking good prior to his injury. I didn't see any other player on that roster (w/ the possible exception of Miller who technically can't be the captain) that I would have put the 'C' on. Could you please explain how that "was dumbest move (L)indy ever made?" And also, please tell us who SHOULD have been made captain back in '08? After the year they had in '07, I wouldn't have given it to Hank nor Toni, and Spach was a hard sell as well. I don't think any of the forwards on the roster merited the selection either, but would be interested to see why you'd've suggested naming one of them (if in case one would have been your choice). The first two paragraphs are dead on. Plus, the players voted on Rivet, so it cannot be the "dumbest move Lindy ever made." And Rivet did captain the team to a division championship. Only Schoenfeld, Gare, LaFontaine, and Drury/Briere share that claim.

I actually have[had] a lot of respect for Rivet as captain. He was apparently a workhorse in practice and kept the guys' noses to the grindstone rather well. I was kind of shocked on Saturday to see him crosschecking Ennis in the face though. Not the kind of last impression I would've chosen.
drnkirishone Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Pretty obvious whom I think deserves the C lol. But I'm kinda like Ruff and superstitious. The only way I see Vanek getting the C during the playoffs is if the team is slumping and Vanek is playing lights out. I could see Ruff putting the C on him to shake up the team.
neverenough Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 If there is no C on this team than throw away the A's...Thats all i have to say about that
