thesportsbuff Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 By that logic, if he's ready for Game 6, he would have been ready for Game 5. If he were ready for Game 5, he would have been ready by Game 4. If he were ready for Game 4 ... There's a threshold. When he crosses it, he'll play. Maybe it will be tomorrow after all. No. He was cleared for contact today. Not before Game 5. Not before Game 4. Not before Game 3. Not before the series started. He was cleared today. He's been skating and practicing for weeks. Is 1 day going to take Derek from 50% to 100%? No. One day might take him from 90% to 100%. I would take Roy at 90% over Ellis at 100%.

If that's Tuesday, so be it; if it's tomorrow, even better.
dudacek Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Roy will be in when he's ready. if he doesn't play, he's not ready. It's that simple. Sabres will be OK for one more game without him. As far as Pom's replacement, his name on the PP is Jordan Leopold, 5 on 5 it's Brad Boyes. Ellis centres the fourth line between Grier and McCormick.
Miss_The_Amerks Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I'm not talking about when he's cleared for contact, I'm talking about when he's ready to play. When he's ready, he's ready, and not before. If that's Tuesday, so be it; if it's tomorrow, even better. Agreed. If I was cleared for contact, I wouldn't want my first day of full contact being game 6 as the Phlyers face elimination...
Dude Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Dude on WGR today was saying he hopes Roy has played his last game as a Sabre. lol I most certainly did not! By that logic, if he's ready for Game 6, he would have been ready for Game 5. If he were ready for Game 5, he would have been ready by Game 4. If he were ready for Game 4 ... There's a threshold. When he crosses it, he'll play. Maybe it will be tomorrow after all. Roy might have been ready to go for game 1 of this series. Who knows? His doctor chose 4 months exactly to clear him, and that's an arbitrary time period for the most part (it could have been 16 weeks for another doctor). Ideally the longer you rest him, the better it theoretically it is for his quad. But I agree that a couple days won't make a difference, assuming he's looking ready now, so you play him in game 6.
Meathead Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 both Hecht and Roy are ready to resume play...one of them will be playing sunday link?
drnkirishone Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I have heard Hecht has been out cause of a concussion. Personally I think Roy will be in for game 6 and get limited even strength shifts and some powerplay time. Hecht I don't think will be back unless we make it ot the 2nd round

So a guy who hasn't been playing for four months should be ready to play in an incredibly physical game one day after taking his first contact -- in practice? I think you've got to see how his body reacts and it's very reasonable to suggest he's not available today. Tuesday (if necessary)? Different story. And by the time the next round starts, we're probably talking almost a week.

K-9 Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 More like gain a player, subtract a loser. Classy. GO SABRES!!!
LabattBlue Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Classy. GO SABRES!!! What? Because Connolly is hurt, I can't speak the truth about him? It wouldn't bother me one bit if he has played his last game as a Sabre.
deluca67 Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 If Roy is healthy enough to play couldn't the Sabres have sent him down to Portland for conditioning for a game or two?

Feel free to speak whatever truth about Connolly you wish. I would suggest that there are better times than a few hours after he may have suffered a career ending injury. I'm sure you donate handsomely to Jerry's Kids in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy but I bet it's ONLY after a kid gets out of his wheel chair and crawls up the steps to your door. GO SABRES!!!
Eleven Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 More like gain a player, subtract a loser. Yep. If Roy is healthy enough to play couldn't the Sabres have sent him down to Portland for conditioning for a game or two? Either there's a sarcastic reason for this that I'm not getting, or this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen you post. Did Pronger play for the Phantoms tonight or at any time last week?

Did Pronger play for the Phantoms tonight or at any time last week? Roy is coming off of long term IR. I am going to guess conditioning is going to be a huge issue. If he was close to coming back they should have gotten him a couple of games, if they could, so he doesn't get put into the lineup cold.

eball Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Roy scores the game winning goal Tuesday night. I'd love to see it happen.
stevecana Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Roy scores the game winning goal Tuesday night. I'd love to see it happen. Yea , I must admit that sequence has been runnnig through my mind.
Eleven Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Roy scores the game winning goal Tuesday night. I'd love to see it happen. Hat trick. The 8-goal-game against Filly hasn't happened yet, so it must happen Tuesday. 3 for Roy.
SDS Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 What? Because Connolly is hurt, I can't speak the truth about him? It wouldn't bother me one bit if he has played his last game as a Sabre. It was an ill-timed cheap shot, IMHO. He's out - you don't have to say anything.
Two or less Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 More like gain a player, subtract a loser. Loser or not, i dont know, and frankly, don't care about your opinion on the guy, but, he has played very well in this series. He hasn't put up points on the scoreboard, which can and should be criticized, but, he has done tons of small things to help the team win, including elite play on the PK, faceoff and on the boards. He will be missed on the ice.
deluca67 Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Hat trick. The 8-goal-game against Filly hasn't happened yet, so it must happen Tuesday. 3 for Roy. The way this series is going the Sabres will be up 8-0 before the Flyers come back and tie it with Scott Hartnell playing net and shutting the Sabres down in the third.

And you'll be the first in line to credit Laviolette for putting Hartnell in net, DeLuca!
