MillerSaves Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Does anyone know if it's possible Roy will be able to play in the playoffs and if so, do you think his return would have a positive or negative affect on the team?
billsrcursed Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Possibly second round. He was our best player when he went down, can't see his return being a negative. At worst, he's an upgrade to 4-5 current roster holders.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Unless Siegfried's coming back as well, it won't be the same.
OverPowerYou Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I can see him playing if we're facing elimination in game 6 or 7 of round 1. If not he'll be ready round 2
Kristian Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Unless Siegfried's coming back as well, it won't be the same. Nice one
Kristian Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I can see him playing if we're facing elimination in game 6 or 7 of round 1. If not he'll be ready round 2 As I wrote in another thread, I fear Lindy will rush him and play him at well less than 100%, much like he did with Connolly last year. Although Derek's not the lazy slacker Connolly is, I'm not sure I want to see him unless he's at least 90%.
neverenough Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I can see him playing if we're facing elimination in game 6 or 7 of round 1. If not he'll be ready round 2 I dont see roy being back for the end of the first round at all, maybe early round 2
thesportsbuff Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 As I wrote in another thread, I fear Lindy will rush him and play him at well less than 100%, much like he did with Connolly last year. Although Derek's not the lazy slacker Connolly is, I'm not sure I want to see him unless he's at least 90%. I don't know how you can say Connolly is a "lazy slacker" after the past four months of being the team's best PKer, leading shot-blocking forward, staple on the PP... all after literally breaking his face. You did watch the games, right?
waldo Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 It would be really foolish to play him again this year given the nature of the injury he had. I would be really surprised if anyone in a position of power within the Sabres organization is recommending he return to the ice this year.
DumbPuck Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Who would he even replace (which line) ? I don't want to see Lindy change up the Gerbe / Gaustad / Mancari line again like he did a few games back (thank god he brought it back that last week). Could pull Niedermayer I guess. What if Grier and Hecht come back too though? Is it sad that I would rather see Grier and Hecht stay on IR than come back and play?
Kristian Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I don't know how you can say Connolly is a "lazy slacker" after the past four months of being the team's best PKer, leading shot-blocking forward, staple on the PP... all after literally breaking his face. You did watch the games, right? Sorry, four months is not enough to wash away the memories of his laziness his entire time here, barring the 05-06 season where nobody were allowed to lay a finger on him. Could've played like the second coming of Gretzky for all I care this season - It's a contract year. And hate to point out the obvious, but I was talking about a situation which occured last season, so who cares about the past 4 months?
thesportsbuff Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Because Connolly wasn't a slacker last year either. 73 games, 17 goals, 48 assists for 65 points, +10, 7 goals and 20 points on the powerplay, 5 GWG...
LGR4GM Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 ug I hate to defend timmy but I will, he has played a great deal better, he has in the past been a great assest in the playoffs. and I wonder if the obvious choice for roys reassertion into the lineup would not be to move boyes down a line and put roy between ennis and staff...
DumbPuck Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I agree that might be the best spot for Roy. But Lindy tried Boyes out there in Mancari's spot on Gerbe's line and it kinda .... well borked it. I love Gerbe (just don't pat him :-P ) but he benefits bigtime by having two big guys like Mancari and Gaustad on his line. Throw Boyes in the mix and drop Mancari and it's broken IMO.

As a fan, why would a person not be most interested in a player's most recent performance? And who cares what the motivation is, if the results are there? Are you similarly displeased with Stafford? Just bizarre reasoning.

And who cares what the motivation is, if the results are there? Are you similarly displeased with Stafford? Just bizarre reasoning. Cause I've seen what he plays like when he's not motivated, and I don't want him to hang around long enough to lose that motivation, which I have a nagging feeling will happen the second he gets his next contract. Yes, I feel the same about Stafford, except he's younger than Timmy meaning there's still hope. Mad skills, only plays when he feels like it. Trick is to make him feel like it.
Kristian Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Because Connolly wasn't a slacker last year either. 73 games, 17 goals, 48 assists for 65 points, +10, 7 goals and 20 points on the powerplay, 5 GWG... All I remember is this : 6 games, 0 goals, 1 assist, -2, 0 points on the PP.
thesportsbuff Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 All I remember is this : 6 games, 0 goals, 1 assist, -2, 0 points on the PP. OK -- now go fetch the playoff stats for vanek/roy/stafford/whoever else you think is better than Connolly and compare
SarasotaSabre Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I dont see roy being back for the end of the first round at all, maybe early round 2 ...and you base this opinion on what specific medical knowledge exactly? The truth is, no one knows at this point....
Kristian Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 OK -- now go fetch the playoff stats for vanek/roy/stafford/whoever else you think is better than Connolly and compare You're missing my point - You pulled out his regular season stats as an example as to why he's not a slacker, I pulled out his playoff stats as an example as to why he is a slacker. It's a matter of opinion, but it's a fact that Connolly has skills like few others, and can turn it on when he wants to. The fact that he played a pretty good regular season only to disappear in the playoffs only tells half the story. What tells the most accurate story , is how he skated around the complete Boston series like he didn't give a damn. If his foot was bothering him that much, he should've taken himself out of the lineup, cause he had "liability" written all over him. The fact that Stafford, Roy and Pominville were equally worthless is hardly relevant. Roy's problem is that he's sometimes Derek Afinogenov, not that he doesn't compete. On most nights that is. Vanek had a decent playoff series, considering the fact he got cheapshotted by Boychuk in game 2. He played like one of the few top line guys who gave a hoot once he returned, sadly it wasn't enough. I don't think Stafford or Pominville are better than Connolly, except Pominville is rarely out of the lineup due to injury.

Speaking of that , I can't say how many times I wanted to rip his head off last night for being a lazy turd. He had several opportunities to get to the puck and obviously didn't skate as hard as he could. I wonder what his teammates think of that crap. Roy shouldn't play , unless we're faced with an elimination game.
Miss_The_Amerks Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I want him back so bad, even if he doesn't score, just to create a spark for everyone else...
Marvelo Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 somehow Tim turned from an offensive stickhandling wizard to a PK specialist...all for the measly price of $4.2 million or so a year. What a bargain. Maybe him and Boyes has something left in the tank, that's what I'm hoping.
