Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Um, yes, it matters. The loss or addition of an impact player can change the course of any series and each team's chances of winning. I'm sure the Flyers' faithful are not shedding any tears that the Sabres are missing Roy, Leopold, Hecht, Grier, etc., and I'm not shedding any tears that Pronger may be out or less effective. Let me get this straight......haven't the 4 players you just mentioned missed 70% total of man-games since the Sabres turned their season around? Isn't that one of the reasons I'm hearing this Sabres team is so good? If the Sabres are worried about Pronger, they've lost the series before it's even started. You prepare to play YOUR game. When you aim to avoid things that are out of your control, the only thing you avoid is your own greatness.

rbochan Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Drew Stafford: "we're not playing Pronger." :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
K-9 Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 imho, the use of hockey nicknames should be left to those who are on/with the team. that said, i think i heard that ennis's hockey nickname is "enzo." which i sort of love, since that's the name of my favorite bit character from the godfather movies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XhPcwlZg3Y I hear 'ya Audzie. GO SABRES!!!
spndnchz Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I was only teasing. You are prob right it should be a team thing but I might do it occasionally (use nicknames). Can I call Carcillo fucillo cuz hes a HUUUUUGE idiot? Flyers call Carcillo "Car bomb".
SDS Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Ahh, but the wisest of fans would chastise you for such sentiments -- a series win against a team at less than 100% is not worth celebrating. If Pronger doesn't play, I'm not even turning on the :censored: TV. It's not worth it. In fact, I don't even want the schedule set yet. Philly should have time to rest up, practice, and get their game together before we commence battle.

When you aim to avoid things that are out of your control, the only thing you avoid is your own greatness. I appreciate the unintended flattery, but I'm not "the Sabres," I'm a fan. The actual players better keep bringing their A game like they have the past two months, regardless of which guys suit up in bright orange Thursday. I haven't heard anything suggesting the players are going to take it easy without Pronger in the lineup though. But, as a fan posting on a fan website, why should I pull for Pronger to be back in the lineup? I hope he's well enough to catch his tee time two weeks from now. If you think this team is better off without Roy, or that the team would not have made the playoffs with Roy in the lineup, I strongly disagree, but that's a different subject. Personally, I'd be pretty pumped if before a game in this series I read the headline "Roy in for Ellis."
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I think I'm gonna lay low for a few days. Trying to have a discussion on this board now is like trying to reason with a bunch of 3rd graders on the bus headed to Disney on Ice. I'll wait until everyone has their cotton candy and magic wands.

Does it matter if they have a game changing hall of fame D man in their lineup game 1? Ummmm, yes. This is where I'm at as well. Let me get this straight......haven't the 4 players you just mentioned missed 70% total of man-games since the Sabres turned their season around? When you aim to avoid things that are out of your control, the only thing you avoid is your own greatness. You are 100% right that the Sabres need to be focusing on their game, not Pronger. That doesn't mean that Sabres fans can't evaluate the situation and determine that the Sabres' chances of winning are better if Pronger isn't playing. Fine -- I'm a weak, limp-wristed Sabres fan who is afraid of Chris Pronger. I really want to win this series.
LGR4GM Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Flyers call Carcillo "Car bomb". ...like with a shot and beer? or like booom? I'm going with a shot in beer. Thats the only thing pronger could score on.

I thought the players vs. fans thing was a valid point . . . but I guess I'll just take my snack and sit back down on the bus. Seriously though, I'm sure Vanek, Stafford, Pominville, etc. are not "afraid" of Pronger, but if your job is to score goals and a guy who would make that job a lot harder if he was playing is now going to miss time, wouldn't you (at least privately) be happy about that? I wonder if the Bruins defenders were disappointed they no longer got to face Vanek last season during the playoffs once he was injured. I doubt that was the case.

I guess we're 3rd graders for saying we'd rather not see Pronger in their lineup come Thurs.

wjag Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Pronger, smonger... He's probably going to be diminished if rushed back. Wack him a few times on the hands to test.. He said quite clearly last week, he ain't ready and don't ask when he will be.. He ain't playing game one...

In what post did you hear that the Sabres are worried that Pronger may or may not play? I don't believe that anyone who has discussed on this thread whether Pronger plays is a Sabre.

Can I call Carcillo fucillo cuz hes a HUUUUUGE idiot? Flyers call Carcillo "Car bomb". but do you think they call him that on the ice, in the midst of play? i dunno. nicknames like millsy, enzo, pommer, goose -- i am betting that those are the names that those guys get called when someone's calling for the puck, etc.

To be fair, we have had our fair share of 3rd graders register for the board in the past month (this is where dumb dumb's kid convinces mom/dad that I'm talking about her/him).

I posted something similar on WGR's anonymous comments section and got flamed for it. Ahh well...
waldo Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Flyers call Carcillo "Car bomb". more like as_ bomb...but none the less am excellent hockey player
CallawaySabres Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Doubt he'll be back for game one so that is good (Pronger) http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=361969

You may want to re watch the Boston playoff series from two seasons ago and amend your "whos afraid" list.
