Janson Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Hi! I have been reading this forum for some time but this is my first time posting. I live in Sweden and has been a sabres fan since 1994. Good results for us yesterday, especially the loss for Rangers. But the negative part is that it looks more and more like we are getting Penguins in the first round. If we already had clinched now, we could have lost to Philly to help them against Pens in the standings. But now, we still need a point and I think we will get it against Philly and let Pens get past them up to second seed. Don't like to play Pens in the playoffs but now we are getting close to it. Lets hope for the same result as the year we beat Ottawa 4-1 after they owned us during the season... ...or maybe we should loose to Flyers, beat Blue Jackets and then take on Flyers in playoffs. Lets go Buffalo!
Dave Dryden Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but the Sabres clinch if just one of five games don't go completely against them: 1) Rangers lose to NJ in Reg/SO/OT 2) Carolina loses to Atlanta in Reg/SO/OT 3) Carolina loses to Tampa Bay in Reg/SO/OT 4) Sabres don't lose in regulation against Flyers 5) Sabres don't lose in regulation against Columbus I believe that the Sabres would have the ROW edge in the worst case of the first three. This is exactly right.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Buffalo now needs only one point to clinch 7th, and Canes control their own destiny. and I hipe that destiny for the canes is Monday Tee times :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Lets go Buffalo! Actually because Boston is the division leader and Philli is still ahead of Pitt with two games each to play. If Pitt does pass Philli then yes you are correct. But if Buffalo passes Montreal, then the Sabres would face the Bruins, so there is still a lot to be decided with two games to go. Buffalo could finish 6-8 and the top 2-4 could still shuffle. So I guess there could be 9 different combinations.

Lets go Buffalo! Welcome to the board. Nice to know we have a following in Sweden. I say just win and worry about the dance partner when the music stops. Out of curiosity who is your current favorite player ?

Meathead Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 eh what do swedes know about cold weather sports
Wharf Rat Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Does Montreal have the tie-breaker on us ? I'm thinking big.
Cereal Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Actually because Boston is the division leader and Philli is still ahead of Pitt with two games each to play. We could help that cause by beating Philly in regulation tonight.
Cereal Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Does Montreal have the tie-breaker on us ? I'm thinking big. Yes. Currently 40 non-shootout wins compared to Buffalo's 36. Their only remaining game is @TOR Saturday.
Claude_Verret Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 I'm surprised to feel this way, but once the Sabres get their point I am pulling for the Canes to beat out the Rangers. I know it is a very long shot, but how awesome would it be to meet in the playoffs again? Getting way ahead, but what the hell Another trip to Raleigh sounds pretty damn good now that my hangover has finally passed While it would be great to see some Sabres playoff hockey here in Raleigh again, from a pure who would I rather play standpoint (assuming the Sabres qualify) I hope the Rangers get in. The Canes are a much scarier opponent at this point IMO.

The Canes are a much scarier opponent at this point IMO. I agree with this, but if we're thinking down the road, would you rather see the Canes in the ECF or the Pens/Caps? If the Rangers get in, I can't imagine they would take down two top teams, but I could see the Canes pulling some upsets. As for who's popular in Sweden . . . how about the Paddle of Enroth?

I want them to lose the last 2 so they are teeing it up monday morning.

Out of curiosity who is your current favorite player ? Thanks! Nice to way to clinch playoffs, and to follow up may previous thread...good to let Philly get one point. They just have to beat Islanders to get to second. That means we will play them or get revench at Bruins if we climb Canadiens... When I started follow Sabres Mogilny, Hawerchuck and especially LaFontaine was my favorites. Now it's harder to name one favorite. When Vanek plays his a game it's easy to lovw him but there is periods the magic doesn't happen. Must say that sience Briere left I can't name one favorite. Tought it could been Roy but he has to take one step more, and I'm not sure he will. In a season or two I hope I will say Mayers, he should be able to get into the top ten defense men in the league.
frissonic Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Happened last year. Flyers #7 and # 8 Habs met in the ECF. hence "virtually." also, while you're at it, check how many times 7 played 8 in a conference finals series. "virtually."
