As I said in the other thread, one more win and the worst we will be is 7th. Missing the caps is huge IMO.

Buffalo now needs only one point to clinch 7th, and Canes control their own destiny.

One point doesn't get anything done does it? Doesn't the Rangers beat us in a tie?

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but the Sabres clinch if just one of five games don't go completely against them:

1) Rangers lose to NJ in Reg/SO/OT

2) Carolina loses to Atlanta in Reg/SO/OT

3) Carolina loses to Tampa Bay in Reg/SO/OT

4) Sabres don't lose in regulation against Flyers

5) Sabres don't lose in regulation against Columbus

I believe that the Sabres would have the ROW edge in the worst case of the first three.

No what, the Rangers don't beat us in a tie?

They will not beat us in a tie. WGR ran down the numbers and I can't recall what they were off the top of my head but the magic number for the sabres is 1 point to stay above both Canes and Rags.

EDIT: Just looked at NHL.com they will be tied in games played and points but sabres will have 36 ROW's and Rags will only have 35 which will give them the edge.

The best thing is just WIN! Problems solved.

Thanks, that helps

since this is playoff crunch time and we only care about points, the thread title could be better worded

rags lose, habs tie would have been better. relevant info instantly conveyed

Rangers and Carolina can both still get 93 points, so the Sabres need 1 point to tie and edge them with the tiebreaker.

Edit: oops, missed the "not" before "beat us". So, yes, I agree.

Which is succinctly stated in post #3. ;)

You have an outrageous avatar. You only have 40 posts in a year and a half but I must always notice the meathead because I feel like you're a regular poster lol.

This is correct. Man it's been a roller coaster lately. After Tuesday I felt like we were pretty much in for sure. Then last night I felt sick to my stomach. Now I feel almost on top of the world again. I think I need help. Honestly if/when we make it I think I'll breathe a sigh of relief and feel less pressure in the playoffs because we're underdogs.

it was a great day for us because now Carolina is chasing nyr who only can reach 93pts. It is a good night for us but we gotta finish the season strong! Our young def must continue to play strong and lets hope that Miller returns in top form.

This is a nice way to look at it. I however, will continue start my playoff vigil pre-ulcer dyspeptia.

Sabres hold the tiebreaker over both CAR and NYR so one more point would get them in.

I'm surprised to feel this way, but once the Sabres get their point I am pulling for the Canes to beat out the Rangers. I know it is a very long shot, but how awesome would it be to meet in the playoffs again? Getting way ahead, but what the hell

Another trip to Raleigh sounds pretty damn good now that my hangover has finally passed

7th meeting 8th is a virtual guaranteed "not happening" scenario, BUT ...

if we do end up playing them for whatever astronomically improbable reason, we would obviously have home ice this time around. how large an impact would that play? the canes are still the canes--stingy D, cam ward, and skinner is sh**-hot lately. that series would probably go no less than 6 or 7 games..
