Is there A Team In The East We Can't Beat?

Pittsburgh Penguins. For some reason, they match up well against the Sabres and seem to have the Sabres number this year. Philly scares me a little with all that offensive talent, but I think they are beatable. Washington I think matches up well against Buffalo and they can really score a ton of goals from their top 6. Aside from that, no one else in the Eastern Conference really scares me. Not Boston, not Montreal, not the Rangers, not Tampa.

The best playoff scenario is for Buffalo to play Boston in the first round, and hope Tampa moves into the 4 seed and that Washington and Philly get eliminated in the first round. Then, I think Buffalo has a legitimate shot, but we'll see what happens.

Without Crosby and the other guy I think Pittsburg is beat a ble

Washington scares me the most

I've been really impressed with the way the team has stepped up since their nasty start. I really don't see us winning the cup this year, but I think if we play as hard as we have been lately, we have a shot at doing some damage up to the second round and making a name for ourselves. A good offseason or two and we may be able to make a deep run. I love the idea of this team with a healthy Roy and well-rested, healthy Miller. With Enroth, we finally have the skilled back-up that Ruff has faith in that we've been needing for quite some time now.

Things are looking up. :)

I'll answer it honestly: out of the teams that are in or have a chance at the playoffs, the following are matchups that I'd rather see the Sabres avoid: Bruins, Pens, Rags, Toilet Swirls.

I actually think anybody can beat anybody in the East.

The only team that I don't think is built for the post-season is Tampa.

I like NYR odds less without Callahan.

But I think anything can happen.

So what you're saying is "Is there A Team In The East That Can't Beat Us?" :nana:

I'm not ready to talk playoffs yet. Call me superstitious, but Carolina isn't out of this yet.

Toronto however has tee times for Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would play the toilet swirls just to destroy them. Id avoid boston

I don't want to play Philly. I think they will hammer us to death. Washington is a joke and Boston is only as good as Tim Thomas. Tampa Bay? Meh. Montreal? Meh. Pittsburgh? Meh.

If Miller comes back from his injury in tip top shape and well rested, and this team keeps clicking offensively, I think we're good.

Seriously, as improbable as it seemed earlier this year, I feel like we can beat anyone in the playoffs. Not that we will, but the cup is a possibility! Gotta be in it to win it, and we are in!

The team we can't beat is fortunately the NY Islanders. If we play disciplined defense, we can beat anybody. It will be key for the goal scorers to, well, score. Can't have 1 goal nights and expect to advance.

All right. Let's just settle down a bit.

You're probably right, but confidence is key and this team is flying high right now. While we're over hyping ourselves, i bet teams at the top of the east standings want to avoid us.

Good point.

Seems like the teams that can beat us aren't in the playoffs (Leafs recently and Islanders)

Out of the teams currently in the playoffs, I wouldn't want to face Boston, Pittsburgh (even without Crosby and malkin they are still playing strong)and Washington would be tough. Philly is REALLY struggling right now, the Rangers/Canes are beatable, Montreal is only as good as Price, and as we saw tonight, Tampa can be beat by the Sabres

I don't see any team in the East that the Sabres can't beat (at least none that will make the round of 16) but I don't like the matchup w/ the Caps (even w/ the AHL D). The Phlyers are probably the matchup that is likely in the 1st that I like the most.

Of the 8 teams that are still alive, I'd probably rank them in terms of stay away from: Caps, Pens, Canes, Bruins, Phlyers, Moe-ray-all, TB, Strangers.

This season, very surprisingly, is shaping up to have a very '97-'98 feel to it. The Sabres were horrible in '97 and then got very hot after the 1st of the year and worked their way up to 6th and a very favorable matchup against a team that had looked very good against the Sabres earlier in the year but the Sabres beat them just before the end of the season which gave them some confidence against them. (Could a 2-7 matchup lead to a similar 3 round run?)

The Sabres appear to be closing out the year stronger than I expected they would back in January. The last sustained spell of bad play were the last 3 games before Golisano signed on the dotted line. I expected a Pegula bump in their play but didn't expect it to remain this sustained.

I REALLY want to play Boston in the 1st round only for a chance to get them back for last year. But, on the other hand out of all the teams in the playoffs, I think Boston is the one team I really don't want to play. Regular season is one thing, but Boston knows if they play physical enough they can beat us. For some reason I see a repeat of last year where we'll all be on here after every game going 'How does Chara get away with that every single game'? I think the Sabres have shown this year that they won't play dirty, but will if they have to (and have done a pretty good job of it). I think guys have stepped up this year and pushed other teams around when they want to get dirty, compared to last year. But I don't think I want to find out in the 1st round if they can do it against Boston in the playoffs. I know Philly is the same way, but I think the Sabres can score on them better which would force Philly to stay out of the penalty box.

I really do think we can beat Boston, but if I had a choice they wouldn't be at the top of my list. In this day and age of pro sports, momentum can be more important than success and right now Philly isn't so hot.
