bunomatic Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!! I heard this song on the radio a month ago and loved it and never got the name. It's been driving nuts ever since. EDIT: This has to be the goal song. Swamp can you find a link. I've seen it on youtube but my lack of technical knowhow cripples me in these situations.
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 What a great game to go to! My first time witnessing a hat trick in person, and what a game to do it in! The building felt a little quieter than usual at times, but that's probably attributed to the whole Tuesday evening time slot. The fans however, were much more inclined to join in on mine and others let's go buffalo cheers. Nice change of atmosphere IMO. Can't wait for the party in the plaza!

nfreeman Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011   Yep, good point. On a side note, can we please stop the Ruff bashing already? The only disapointing thing right now is he doesn't officially have a contract. I read somewhere we have the best winning % in the league since Jan 1. That's after losing our best player. Guy should be up for coach of the year. Now that we're looking like we'll make it, don't you think the top couple teams are atleast a little nervous to be playing us? Not saying we will win but wow we're playing good right now. :clapping: I'm a Lindy fan, to be sure, but Roy isn't the Sabres' best player or for that matter in the top 3. By October it's possible he won't be in the top 5. The only play I saw that I thought was a complete ###### was Stafford passing up a shot and moving to his backhand. It looked like he had the entire top of the net for 2 seconds. Maybe he couldn't get the handle but that should have been a goal. I thought this at first but then on a replay it looked like a Bolt d-man was in position to block the shot by the time Stafford first took possession -- so he tried to deke and go to the backhand. Separately: holy mackerel that was a great win. Lots of great posts in this thread. I like in particular the idea of Mancari sticking next year if both Niedermayer and Grier are gone. I've sorta been thinking that Nieds would be gone and Grier would be back, but if Grier's knee keeps him out of the playoffs, it's hard to see them bringing him back. And Mancari played well, including doing the grunt work pretty well. As for Labatt's tirade against TC: I've been as disappointed with TC as anyone, but I have to say this: he is what he is -- a good-to-very-good complementary player when he's healthy -- and a guy who should NOT be relied on to carry the mail for a team. That's been the whole problem since Black Sunday. Management (and we don't know who made this decision) decided to put their money on TC to play the very key role of #1 or #2 center for the past 4 years. He's not built for it, either physically or mentally. He took their money, he played the way he knew how to play, he put himself in harm's way and has paid a heavy price for doing so, and he hasn't delivered what we all wanted. But he can still chip in with plenty of good play here and there. Just don't build your team around him. I have to say, I'd love to see TC redeem himself and have a huge playoffs this year on his way out of town. If he does, someone will definitely overpay him and he'll be gone -- but at least he'll give us a little parting gift for all the money and frustration over the years. Butler made a great defensive play late in the game and then was, I thought, pretty well-spoken in his interview after the game. I'm fairly certain I predicted another big Vanek game against a SE division team. I need to see him bring it against Philly. What a great win.
bunomatic Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Was that the Flying Tomato? Wait a minute. Did I hear 'Sir Todd Bridges'?
korab rules Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Was that the Flying Tomato? I believe it was!
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 First off, Howlin for you is a great song, by a great band, but IMO, while i can see where the "dah dah dah dah dah" refrain could fit in nicely as a goal song, there's simply isn't enough edgy instrumentation in the mix. When i think goal song i think roaring base, and some straight up energy being poured into the arena via that speaker stacks. Howlin for you is simply just too laid back i think. It'd make a great song for stoppage in play, but no goal song. Maybe we could get a local group to cover it and add some edge and energy to it? If so then i give an emphatic YES to this song as the new goal song. Just to kind of demonstrate my point, my three favorite goal songs in the NHL as of today. Minnesota Wild: Joe Satriani - Crowd Chant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l1DAw3rzDI speaks for itself IMO, Satriani is a god with the guitar, and the call and answer chant is wonderful New York Rangers: Rangers Anthem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIohwGjXaSI This is what I'd like to see in Buffalo someday, a rip-roarin, crowd cheering celebration that literally uses the name of the Hometeam, wonderful. Chicago Blackhawks: Chelsea Dagger Gotta love the frattellis, and i love how the song opens up with a cheer followed by continuous chanting, easy to follow by all, and genuinely, sounds like something great just happened. (unfortunately i can't post the video in this post cuz apparrantly there is a limit on files per?) Now when i go back to Howlin' for you... It's kind of like the boys in the sound booth are telling me to calm down after the sabres just scored. I don't mean to insult your tastes in music at all, far from it. The black keys are a wonderful group, if anything i compliment your taste. I just dont think howlin for you would be exciting enough.
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Chelsea Dagger - for those of you who don't know it. ( if you watched the finals last year, you know it.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtW_aLmlf_E
TheMatrix31 Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 I have to give a vote for Anaheim's use of Bro Hymn by Pennywise ....using Nitro (Youth Energy) by Offspring would be an awesome one too. Tons of energy.
wjag Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7AP5MAhkoQ Yep that could work..
thesportsbuff Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Sabres inch closer to Playoff birth: http://www.thesportsbuff.com/?p=514
spndnchz Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 At the game last night. I thought the Sabres as well as the fans kept it going last night. Ebb and flow until late in the third. Can't think of any player that didn't have a shining moment last night. A mistake here and there that cost 'em. I did notice that the Sabres seemed to back off too soon. As Tampa was coming up ice you'd see two D and a forward for a while. Lindy most have changed this up and the pressure was more sustained. Go Sabres!
wjag Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Game thoughts: 1. Roloson should have been scratched in favor of Mike Smith given his record against Buffalo and the importance of the game. 2. Always liked Malone. Nice tip on a slice. 3. Sabres backed off the offense way too early in this game. The entire third period seemed like a Tampa PP. 4. Ennis' game is ebbing. Nice dive to clear a puck. He's hitting. But he is losing control of the puck lately. 5. As great a game as Enroth played, I couldn't help think that Miller would have stoned Vinny. It is the type of turnover, play and save we have seen all year when Miller is in goal. 6. Timmy is playing like he wants to stay. +3 last night. 7. Folks jumped Timmy for the Vinny goal, but my recollection is Myers really committed the gaff by not getting the puck out and putting it in Timmy's skates. Video replay could prove me wrong. 8. Nice to see them score on the PP again last night. Good time of year to be picking up the pace. 9. I had an eerie calm all throughout the game. I never believed Tampa was going to win. 10. Buffalo did an exceptional job on St Louis and Vinny and Stamkos. Stamkos -2, Vinny -1, St Louis, E. 11. Butler-Myers pairing looks to be gelling very nicely. 12. Vanek does not want to cede the goal lead to Stafford. Marc Andre who?
spndnchz Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Love this quote from Mancari: "You hear them, you see them, you feel the excitement and you build on it," Sabres forward Mark Mancari said. "I've wanted to be up here for a long time, and to be in this battle is amazing. Guys are playing unbelievable from the goalie on out, so this is some fun hockey." Yes Mark it sure is.
LabattBlue Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 But he'll never play in this league. He's a career A.H.L er One great effort does not make a NHL career. I still think Mancari is too slow to play at the NHL level on a long term basis. People hated a similar player to Mancari, Ales Kotalik, and he was a much better skater. I'm in the minority, but come playoff time, if everyone is healthy, I would take Grier, Kaleta and even Ellis over Mancari.
Derrico Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 I'm a Lindy fan, to be sure, but Roy isn't the Sabres' best player or for that matter in the top 3. You just felt like Buffalo was going to win after the first shift of the game.

That Aud Smell Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 I'd like to see a bit more from Ennis and Boyes tonight i was at the game. beyond that bit of buzzing they did early in the 1st, that line never looked dangerous to me. and, fwiw, boyes at times looked uncomfortable and at other times gassed at center -- there were several shifts where he called for gaustad well before stafford or ennis were looking for a change. hecht can't mend soon enough (what is his injury thought to be -- a concussion?). and i'm now done with paying lip-service to the idea that the team might somehow be better off without roy. Ruff also matched Boyes-Ennis-Stafford with Lecavlier-Stamkos-St. Louis with about 2 minutes to play. i didn't notice that, to be honest -- good feedback for me to consider.
Mox Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Man, finally someone that knows good music. I suggested 'howlin for you' by the black keys a couple of weeks ago. It is what a hockey song should sound like. I really like the Black Keys. Been a fan since around 2007ish. There are probably better songs out there but "Howlin' for You." is the first one to stick out to me... and it's way better than that "Swords of a Thousand men" song.

Even when Tampa scored first and then again quickly in the third, I had no doubt Sabres were going to win the game. Had that feeling very few times this season.
nfreeman Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 One great effort does not make a NHL career. Mancari plays more determinedly than Kotalik did. When I watch Mancari I see a guy who cherishes every shift he gets in the NHL. Having said that, I'd take Grier and Kaleta over Mancari in the lineup, but not Ellis or Niedermayer. Ok fair point about next season, I completely agree but at the time Roy went down he was top 2 or 3 IMO on the team. I agree with this -- but it's consistent with Roy being the kind of player who "puts up numbers" on a crappy team. Who would the top 5 be that would knock Roy down to 6 or lower? Miller, Vanek, Myers, ??? & ??? Depending on how they do in the playoffs (and what happens in the offseason), I could see ranking Stafford, an offseason pickup, Ennis, Pommer or even Sekera or Weber above Roy. (I freely admit that I have an axe to grind with Roy.) i was at the game. beyond that bit of buzzing they did early in the 1st, that line never looked dangerous to me. and, fwiw, boyes at times looked uncomfortable and at other times gassed at center -- there were several shifts where he called for gaustad well before stafford or ennis were looking for a change. hecht can't mend soon enough (what is his injury thought to be -- a concussion?). and i'm now done with paying lip-service to the idea that the team might somehow be better off without roy. Interesting observation about Boysie. I can see him being in poorer condition than the rest of the team, since he hasn't been practicing with them all year. I too would really like to get Jochen back for the playoffs. He's a grownup, does a lot for them and they missed him last year.
