When I read more on wikipedia I couldn't help but notice their logo is similar to the slug. I never knew that parts of Slapshot were based on these guys. Eleven Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 The slug was inspired by the "Talkin' Proud" logo from the late 1970s / early 1980s. EDIT: That doesn't read well. The Talkin' Proud logo was the main influence with respect to the design of the slug. There, that's better.

Not doubting you 11, but how the ###### did LQ go from the Talkin' Proud Buffalo to the slug? Does one have to down a bottle of mezcal during the process? That is mind-numbingly pathetic to think that the sponsor of blue ice and bulging nets could transform a successful marketing logo into such an abomination. :wallbash:

In any event, if you look at the two together, you can kind of see it. Look at the horns and the outline of the buffalo head and the fact that in each case, the head is emerging from something--in the older instance, a trapezoid; in the newer, a triangle-like abomination.
mphs mike Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 I remember going to a Norsemen game one time. It was a rare, one game appearance at the Aud. Definately closer to Slapshot quality than the AA CHL played in Memphis, although 35 years or so may fog my memory. I remember that they had a green & gold color scheme and seem to remember that the logo was closer to the WHA's Minnesota Fighting Saints than anything. I'll probably edit this post as soon as I search the web and find how inaccurate my memory has become.
