Patrick kaleta is reported to be almost at 100%, but will not play in tuesday's game vs the lightning. I am a big Kaleta fan and hope he can get 1 or 2 games in him before the playoffs. I would love to see some physical play out of the team in these next 3 games, just to show everyone the Sabres are here for a reason. But who will sit out for kaleta to come in?

Easy. Ellis will go back down as soon as a forward comes back..

Correct but I don't think it means Kaleta gets right back in. He hasn't played in a while and playoffs are in about a week. Obviously, I'm assuming we're in but is that enough time to get him ready?

I don't need to see Kaleta back in the lineup. The forwards have been quite effective lately. Kaleta can sit until injury or someone plays below expectations.

Which will take about one game..

IMO...I would rather see Ellis in the lineup come playoff time instead of Mancari.

What's the word on Hecht/Grier? Ideally they're both back and both Ellis and Mancari are back playing for the Calder Cup.

Ellis did not look good at all and if they aren't playing Mancari with someone to set up his shot he's useless unless he wants to thug it up some more.

I'm tired of inserting Kaleta back into a functioning lineup for a few games at a time. Sit him until we need him.

Agreed. The only way I'd care to see Kaleta now is if someone already in the lineup isn't performing.

You might be able to make that case for Mancari right now, but I think Mancari has more potential upside so I think he should stay in and Kaleta continue to watch the games.

And when Grier comes back it is moot anyway.

Almost 100% but for how long?

everyone who is saying they dont want kaleta back in the lineup asap for the playoffs is on crack. its a different game in the postseason because the tempo is higher and it becomes much more physical. nothing against our team but they are not a intimidating team and having kaleta back would give us some more credibility in the hitting and physical dept of our team. if anyone feels that we dont need more guys like that for the postseason just look back to the boston series last year when they ragdolled us in 4 games.

You think Mancari has more potential upside than Kaleta? Interesting...

how does this give us more credibility? it doesn't take much to tag someone against the boards then go fetal on the ice. that's not toughness; that's penalty-drawing 101. kaleta might be good at that, but he's no rough-and-tumble bertuzzi-like player. he'll be gritty enough to get under other teams' skins, so that's good, but let's call a spade a spade: he's an irritation--not a physical threat.

The best hitter on the team is a physical threat. He's not just yapping out there, he dis-lodging fillings.

You can call it whatever you'd like, when he's on the ice there are 5 guys who perk up and pay attention. That attention is being drawn away from their game-plan, and it's disrupting to their play, at the very least.

Who else on our team draws the attention of the opposing 5? Vanek, Ennis, Stafford, Goose? Doubtful.

I'm not clamoring for him to get a "C", but he's effective on most shifts, and I can think of 3-4 guys who should be sitting or sent back down if/when he's healthy enough to go.

He is not the best hitter on the team, he is the best at leaving his feet to deliver some big hits and also dishing out borderline hits. He is exciting to watch at times and does draw penalties, but his usefulness is limited. I think overall he would be a better player if he could stay in the lineup, but we all know thats not going to happen.

it's not calling it what i like; it's calling it as it is. yah, he's effective at pissing off the other team. i'll grant that and all but conceded that in my original comment. however, the comment to which i was replying indicated that he was some kind of physical *threat*, which ... no. don't get me wrong--i like the kid just fine. he is one of the best at flustering the other team, but it has nothing to do with his ability to take out other players. he's all heart, and i love him to death for that, but ... that's about where his usefulness ends.

What did our boys do yesterday when Enroth got knocked off the puck and got hit in the head?hmmmm nothing!Get Kaleta back in the game please...

Actually McCormick clobbered one guy and Gaustad grabbed Staal by the throat, I would not say that is doing nothing.

Was that the one where the guy who actually hacked Enroth got the hell out of there as fast as possible and the Sabres went after two other guys instead? That was hilarious.

IIRC there was a scrum and the guy who took a late swipe at the puck managed to sneak out of the scrum and Goose ended up grabbing Staal and letting him know what is acceptable behavior. Staal took the abuse for whoever that guy was. And it was funny to watch. I wish we would see more fo that sort of thing out of Goose. When Rivet first came to Buffalo he used to be good for that sort of thing. Then his shoulder got bad enough that he couldn't do it anymore.

What humors me about this board is threads like this. We all know Lindy values veteran leadership and ALWAYS plugs these guys back in as soon as they are ready. If Kaleta, Hecht, Grier and Miller are healthy, they will be returned to their starting spot.
