SMIRNOFF Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Nevermore does a killer version of "The Sound of Silence."
Stoner Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 It's friday, friday ... Excellent! But it reminded me of how Taylor Hicks robbed Katharine McPhee of Idol that year.
X. Benedict Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Best Cover Artist ever: Joe Cocker. Beatles "Little Help from my Friends", Traffic's "Feelin Alright" He also did that "buy me a ticket on a aeroplane" that I can't think who wrote. Always loved Joe Cocker's version of Randy Newman's "I think It's Gonna Rain" too
Weave Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Headstones- Tweeter and the Monkey Man  Always was a fan of the Headstones. Only time I saw them play was at the Canal Concert Series in NT about 12-13 years ago.
frissonic Posted April 2, 2011 Author Report Posted April 2, 2011 okay, it's possible that i stand corrected. anything richard cheese does is pretty good.
ROC Sabres Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Not the best cover but I think I prefer this version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi00ykRg_5c And not a cover at all but I thought it was done well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspPE9E1yGM
wonderbread Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 John Prine My Old Man It's a Steve Goodman cover.
cdexchange Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Best cover song of all time? I'd have to give it to Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower".
Foligno's Nose Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011  Always was a fan of the Headstones. Only time I saw them play was at the Canal Concert Series in NT about 12-13 years ago. Yes. The stage was at the other end of the street and Hugh Dillon was rabid. Flipping off the people on the boats. It was awesome. Tweeter. Great cover. One of my faves. One in my head right now is the Beatles' Yer Blues covered by the late Jeff Healey. It really cooks.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Yes. The stage was at the other end of the street and Hugh Dillon was rabid. Flipping off the people on the boats. It was awesome. Tweeter. Great cover. One of my faves. Yeah they were a really great live band........Hugh Dillion is intense.....Have you ever seen the movie Hard Core Logo?
shrader Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Best cover song of all time? I'd have to give it to Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower". Ahhh the long list of things originally written by Dylan that were eventually made better by someone else.
cdexchange Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Ahhh the long list of things originally written by Dylan that were eventually made better by someone else. Yup. Although, in fairness to Dylan, writing a great song seems infinitely more difficult to me than performing one. I have the utmost respect for anyone who can write even one great tune, let alone make an entire career out of writing great songs.
cdexchange Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Holy crap I just realized I passed a thousand posts sometime yesterday in the gameday thread. Yay me.
That Aud Smell Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 i know we're a bit afield from where the original post put us -- which was very much a topical bit of humor -- but since we're talking great covers, i will proffer one of my personal favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ia8_Lav32c
Foligno's Nose Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 At the Bob Seger show Saturday, during "Turn the Page", I thought of Metallica's cover. Metallica's version of "Page" is pretty righteous. While thinking about Metallica and this thread, I thought of "Whiskey in the Jar". This Thin Lizzy cover is awesome and may be at the top of my cover song list. There is also a cover of "Let Me Roll it" by Big Sugar on the Hempilation II album. I love the Wings original, but the cover is awesome. Big Sugar also does great covers of "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and "Let it Ride". They will be on my list.
Wharf Rat Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Best cover song of all time? I'd have to give it to Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower". Yeah, this one. Turning the tables, Stevie Ray Vaughan covering Voodoo Child gives me goosebumps.
walstib Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Yeah, this one. Turning the tables, Stevie Ray Vaughan covering Voodoo Child gives me goosebumps. Good call...SRV's cover of Little Wing is awesome as well. Here's a link that includes a taste of 3rd Stone from the Sun too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAG-kX_IlUw PS - Go Sabes!!
shrader Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I've yet to hear a bad Who cover from Pearl Jam.
