X. Benedict Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 First clue that this ranking shouldn't be given the time of day : "Either way, Neil balances out the good vibes created by good guy Daniel Alfredsson." "Good guy" Daniel Alfredsson is a cheapshotting POS, punk-ass puke, who routinely run players head first in to the boards from behind, and fired a full slapper directly at Niedermayer with time running out in the 07 finals. Yup, real class-act for you there. As far as the slapper is concerned, that is the only time I've ever seen something like that so overt. Neidermeyer was in the Neutral zone.

I don't remember who did it, but some knucklehead shot a puck at John Muckler as time ran out back when Mucks was coaching the Sabres. Seems to me it might've been an Ottawa player.

Weave Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 When you start your career leaving your feet with nearly every hit and cowering at every challenge you are going to end up at the top of a list like this one. I gave Kaleta credit last season for dropping the gloves more but that doesn't make him any less dirty. His hits are mostly late and frequently come after a long run. Granted, he does keep his elbows down. If he played for Ottawa or Boston we'd all want his knees taken out. I think Kaleta has lost most of his effectiveness. The refs look for him and will not give him the benefit of the doubt. And his early years turtling has resulted in fewer players retaliating so the powerplays don't come like they used to. His offensive upside is minimal, but he is effective as a secondary PK guy. And I think his bombing hits have reduced in frequency as the injuries mounted. IMO if he were from Moosejaw instead of Angola he'd be getting much more heavily criticized on this site. Having said all that, I've always maintained that I want to see the Sabres on the giving end of shots like the ones Kaleta hands out instead of on the receiving end. And for this I am glad Kaleta is on the team. And I honestly think Pat's days on this team are numbered. If injuries don't get him Marcus Foligno will. Foligno is going to be a bigger, better Kaleta than Kaleta will ever be.
Weave Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Denny Vial? That was the first name that came to mind but Bill Huard might be right too.
calti Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Shouldn't it be "leaves the water"? Since ice in it's natural state is really water, but is artificially kept below 32 degrees inside the arena? I'd even settle for "Leaves the very slow oxygen and hydrogen molecules". no. definitely not water. but the slow oxygen and Hs--thats a keeper.
FogBat Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Ranked in Hockey News http://www.thehockey...HL-players.html Only player to beat him.... Cooke. I personally love his style of play. Some of the comments were interesting. Granted, this is a list of current players. However, for all-time, some people were right to point out Scott Stevens and Ulf Samuelsson, but I would also add Esa Tikkanen to that list as well. The absence of Jarkko Ruutu from this list makes no sense at all. Last time I checked, he had a piece of Andrew Peters' thumb still stuck in his mouth. However, the Vancouver "Turtles" comment was pretty funny.
X. Benedict Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Something that has driven me nuts for 40+ years... and everyone says it... It should be he leaves the ICE...not feet.. how does one leave their feet? Where do they put them? Ok.. sorry but had to put it out there it drives me nuts!!! "Leave your feet" is correct usage, actually. Also used in rugby and racewalking. feet: contact with the ground Leave your feet: break contact with the surface. You have been wrongly going crazy for 40 years. That should drive you more nuts. ;)

FWIW, ice skates work by using pressure to melt a small piece of ice, which the skate 'hydroplanes' across. So they all are actually skating on water.

Stoner Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I'm trying to figure out what new standard for charging and boarding emerged from the recent GM meeting. So far I've found this: "NHL Senior Vice President and Director of Officiating Terry Gregson appeared today on NHL Live! following Tuesday morning’s session. He said referees need to think about three questions as they evaluate the merit of a charging or boarding call: Did the player making the hit have any regard for the puck? Is the player making the hit trying to separate the player from the puck? Or was the player making the hit just to punish?" Hmmmm. Couldn't they just start by tightening up the definition in the rule book? Think this text could use a little massaging? 42.1 Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner.

FogBat Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Dale Hunter I get the feeling that there should be a spin-off thread of the top ten dirtiest players of all time. Perhaps someone who has a much greater sense of hockey history than I do could get the ball rolling on this one. Will mentioned Darius Kasparaitis as well.
X. Benedict Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I wake up angry in the middle of the night shouting Damn you Ken Linseman.

I'll see the Darius Kasparaitis and raise a Darcy Tucker.
Oakstream Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Kaleta is my favorite Sabre. The games just don't seems as entertaining without him. And he's great at what he does. Big hits and get under peoples skin. He will be valuable come playoffs! Yes, we will be there :)
FogBat Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I'll see the Darius Kasparaitis and raise a Darcy Tucker. Throw Claude Lemieux into the pot to stir things up.

TheMatrix31 Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Kaleta's definitely a punk from what I've gathered.....doesn't make me happy, despite his usefulness. We'll see his value if we make the playoffs, where the stakes are ramped up. Of course, we've been in a constant state of "playoffs" for a couple months now.
FogBat Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Wasn't it Lyle Odelein of Moe-ray-all that shot the puck into the Sabres bench intentionally? Not sure, but I know that "Cornelius" had a public feud going against Matthew Barnaby.
Patty16 Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 No one ever mentions how injured this guy always is, he's played less games than Tim Connolly the past few years.
Weave Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Wasn't it Lyle Odelein of Moe-ray-all that shot the puck into the Sabres bench intentionally? Could be. I have a nagging thought it was an Ottawa player but I really don't remember well enough to stand firm on it.
