Googled it. Airplane! I don't get it.

Nervous and paranoid housewife thinks "somethings up" because her husband has a second cup of coffee on the airplane. ( It's a parody of 1970s coffee ads.) She reads too much into his actions.

Similarly, nothing's "up" because Miller skated off pissed. He's supposed to be pissed after that loss. If he did a WTF wave or was nonchalant, that would be a problem.

Eh, not buying it. Surely there have been worse moments than yesterday in Miller's career, and he didn't skate off. If I'm being dramatic, what do you call Miller?

This was Miller showing his disgust not with himself but with his teammates. Again. I'd say the bench was shocked to see him skate off. They stood there watching, Enroth on one side and the rest on the other, like people on either side of train tracks with a runaway Amtrak train roaring between them, that thing from Cloverfield on top.

I'm not sure what you expect here. You seem to be calling out Miller for dissing his teammates and, given your consternation with the press' inability to make his sudden departure from the ice the main story, you would prefer that Miller do his dissing of his teammates in the press. That's not going to happen. Nor should it. All that's important here is that Miller was pissed (rightfully so) and whether that's just at his teammates, himself, or a combination of the two, isn't really important. Miller said there was nothing to be said after the game. You may not like that, the press may not like that, but I have a hunch everybody on the team prefers it that way.

These are the types of things that often serve to galvanize a team. Pissing and moaning in the press serves to do the opposite.

No, I would prefer that Miller not diss anyone, except himself from time to time. He's not the coach or the captain. Two (maybe three now?) years ago, Miller came out and said he was going to quit micromanaging the team and concentrate on playing goal. He needs to revisit that idea.

I have a hunch no one on the team appreciated being left in the lurch on the ice after a loss like that, being abandoned. I also have a hunch Miller is not well liked.

Did crosby's goal in the olympics break miller? He has really never played the same after that goal. He was mad yesterday and didnt want to talk about it. He knws what hes like when he is good and this wasnt it. Time will tell if miller is the reason or his defense but He was pissed I feel like at himself as well as his team.

I would think not stepping on the logo would be reserved for people in the organization. Similar to not touching the Stanley Cup until you win it. Reporters and the average fan can decide for themselves what they want to do. If no one is supposed to step on the logo then the team should put up some of those red velvet ropes (which I think are made by a firm in Buffalo) when they have reporters or guests in the locker room.

I agree.

Miller may not be a coach or captain but he is a team LEADER none the less. That, unlike your gratuitous claim that he's not well-liked by his teammates, is indisputable.

You see things your way I suppose. But where you see him disrespecting teammates, I see disgust with the game's outcome. Where you see a goalie who should have stayed around for the obligatory stick taps and helmet pats from teammates after the game, I see a goalie who feels he let one get away and doesn't deserve the acknowledgment. Where you see abandoned teammates (like little duckies after mommy duck has gone away?) left in the lurch after a crushing loss, I see a stunned team needing to question themselves. As they should.

I have a hunch nobody on that team is at all concerned with anything about last night except the way they let it get away. Again, just as they should.

He DID DO a WTF wave. Watch it if you can

There was a bit of a WTF wave. Not one of his best WTF wave efforts, but it was there none the less. :D

Somehow this is starting to remind me off the Seinfeld Keith Hernandez episode..."There must have been a second spitter."

Think it's about time to start the GDT for les Habitants!

Another item that that collapse last night hurt the chances of on...

Had we won, we'd be 7 points behind Les Habs, and with a game in hand (and Minnesota laid a total "egg" last night).

Heck, Boston is playing like crap, and we're only 9 points behind them for division lead (yea, I know there are only 10 games left).

Huge game tomorrow (team need to be looking up, instead of down...). :pirate:

Dave, thank you for the compliment, much appreciated.

9pts is 5 games with one extra point...its plausable, but we'd have to win out.

I def. dont think we'd get it, but hey, weirder things have happened.

I have never heard any other team leader critique (in a negative way) Miller's play minutes after a disappointing loss. That's the difference.

I don't. Isn't it implied that statements like that are opinions?

It gets a little old writing IMHO.

All true and well written, but if he indeed stepped on the logo, on purpose, after they asked everyone not to, then he is a douche, regardless of tradition.

And deserves an ass-kicking.

The adage is true.

Win as a team, lose as a goalie.

There were about 5 mistakes to write about in that game:

1. Sekera shooting with about 3 min. left from the blueline with nobody in front of the net, missing the net. Dumb turnover. Lost zone.

2. Sekera not walking the puck behind the net. Cost a goal.

3. Gaustad flipping the puck out. Lost the zone.

4. Ruff calling McCormick's number for the defensive draw. (Not many options becuase Gaustad was gassed) But that's should be Tim C's Draw. Cost a goal.

5. Meyers with a wiff and Sekera with a cough-up in front for the winning goal.

Anyway.....with all that to talk about we get....Miller is pouty, and the carpet is precious.

It's a lazy and crap hack piece.

So yes. I think the town deserves better from a columnist when I can spot that as a fan.

Good post, especially the bolded part.

The next time Sullivan writes something that provides actual hockey insight will be the first time.

I don't recall Miller doing that, either. If you can provide a link or something tying him to a post-game negative critique of his team's play, then I'm all ears.

If you are suggesting that's what Miller did by skating off the ice last night then, like I said previously, you're seeing what you want to see. But there are other more plausible explanations. Not the least of which is that Miller was more pissed at himself than anyone else. I don't think he's used to allowing 3 goals in two minutes to lose a game.

Ryan Miller has been off his game all year, he needs some goaltending help (coaching) and some summer rest. This team is defensively week and Miller is soft as well and even when they were winning and playing great they still had moments. I am glad that this team has faced so much hardship this year. I hope they continue to battle because next year with the experience under their belt and a fresh start with some more talent they will be much better off. Roy, Pommers, and Vanek took 4 years to adapt to briere and drury leaving cuz they didnt have to work super hard every night as rookies, now they are getting it. Ennis and Gerbe have been battling since day 1 so they already understand. Learning is hard, and maybe we still have some learning to do as a team. Lets make the playoffs learn more and see what happens this summer.

There are quite few sound bites from seasons past where Miller called out his teammates. Calling them "fragile little children" a season or two ago is the most infamous. I don't have a link for it but it was widely reported after he said it in a post game interview. He's avoided doing that for the most part this season.

This comment has taken on mythic stature around here that it has almost become a character slur.

Let's revisit it....and put it to bed.

The fragile quote you and many have referred to is a collective "We" not THEM ...and the interview ended with an "I"

"We've got to stop playing like fragile little kids out there," he said. "We had a two-goal

lead, took two penalties that weren't exactly necessary, got rattled and had a bad second

period. Then we had to scramble in the third period to make a game of it."

and from Harrington:

Miller is hardly blameless and he knows that. He's 0-3-2 with a 3.54 goals-against average

in February, which has to make USA Hockey's domos a little nervous about their goaltending.

"If it's not one thing, it's another thing," Miller said. "If it's the forwards are off,

the "D' are off and I'm off, it's all not clicking right now. No one is making up for each

other."

I thought at the time he was talking about the entire team.

I don't think there has ever been evidence that any teammate took umbrage with the comments. But it has lived as a "meme" on Sabrespace.
