Hey now it's my two cents worth. Wolf and weave you need to get over yourselves. Dumb dumb it has taken me a long time to get over what Dom Did to us and make no mistake and in defferance to wolf and weave, he really did cause harm to our team.

He was however a one man dynamo whlie he was here. You know that if you watched him play while here. He was simply amazing. I have a #39 jersey that I have owned with a grudge. Tonight after seeing the HUGE ovation he was given and the even bigger ovation as he walked off the ice reminded me of what this guy did for us while he played here. He always gave us a chance to win. I feel that way about Miller also. Usually.

Dom was a freak. We as fans are freaks and dont even like each other a lot of times. Even on an anonyomous message board.

I had hair standing up when Dom turned and walked off the ice. I told him that when I met him after the game he told me he was genuinely touched with his reception.

I have some bitter feelings but good god isnt time supposed to heal wounds? Even tonight I told my people that there is no love lost for me and Dom. This despite me wearing his vintage jersey. After all the banter all night and then finally meeting him and him signing the jersey, and my friend saying well you cant wear that one ever again!! I want to bury the bad feelings. Remember this, Dom spent more than one million dollars of his own money to fix something in our community.

Despite the hard feelings.

I'll say it again, remember Dom spent more than one million dollars of his own money to fix something in our community.

He's a bad guy. Really?

Thanks Dom. And when I met you tonight and told you how the new owner is bringing back all the old guys it was great when you said you knew. I said thanks for being the best goalie this team will ever see and I am a big Miller fan it was very cool when you simply said thank you. It was great when you signed my #39 Jersey to make it authentic and as a result it will no longer see the washing machine but will find a frame in the next few weeks, I want to again THANK YOU for what YOU did for the team while you played here.

I don't see the need for anyone to "get over themselves." Weave and I have, for the most part, expressed our opinions respectfully and been attacked repeatedly for it. My opinion is he was a legendary talent who wowed us for years until he burned a lot of bridges on his way out and basically flipped the middle finger to the city and region. I do think that he was pissed at ownership and management and this was his way of sticking it to them, but I think he doesn't realize that the ans were collateral damage in his tantrum.

I definitely understand honoring him for his play and his on-ice contributions. I just want to see him acknowledge that he handled his departure like a Class A ###### and that there is some remorse for how he acted. That's all.

Wolf, notice how the folks telling us we need to get over ourselves are the ones that are telling other people how they should think. And we've never once suggested that they should think our way. Oh, the delicious irony. If only they were aware of it.

And, as usual, they have exaggerated the opposing point of view. I won't speak for wolf but it seems evident to me that neither one of us harbor ill will towards Hasek. But that doesn't mean we want to see him honored as a Sabre. His actions have spoiled that honor in my opinion. And, as I've said earlier in this thread, a simple mea culpa on his part would go a long way towards healing the wound he creaed.

I bet Dom isn't even aware of how a lot of fans feel. Like he said at the time, "it is business."

I'm not aware that anyone in the media has ever asked him about it, and after the reception he got last night, I don't think any apologies will be forthcoming.

Agree on both counts. And I'm not holding my breath waiting for one either.

I was curious if a member of the media was going to ask Dom about his leaving and if he had any regrets but I guess the kids gloves are going to be on re: all things Sabres for the remainder of the season.

R.J. (as Dom left the ice last night) - "There might have been some bitter feelings when Dominik Hasek left Buffalo. They have not lasted. A standing O..."

I also think it was also in part to the TP lovefest that is going on where the fans are so glad to see changes that they will let some negative feelings go towards hasek in order to show support for the new regime. It seems the fanbase can't get enough of all things sabres heading into this playoff push.

His team-issued scripts are garbage. And, as a listener since 1975, I am embarrassed that the man at this point in his career agrees to read them. The bitter feelings have lasted.

Terry Pegula a Western New Yorker? Come on. He belongs to Pennsyltucky.

I dunno if it was a verbatim team issued script but you can bet your a$$ that he was told to make sure TPegs didn't look bad if the Hasek thing went south. Just call it in a more positive light...

Just a hunch, but I think you guys are reading way too much into things... Most people are going to behave in front of the cameras. The fan support was a given. How anyone had any doubt that he wouldn't be warmly welcomed is beyond me. We're talking about a six time Vezina trophy winner, gold metalist and stanley cup champion who did a lot of good things for the city of Buffalo.

So by that logic to a lesser extent - if they bring back McGahee for a fan day they would ignore him trashing the city and cheer because he was a good RB for us for a while.

I think this line of discussion is moot because when Hasek returned the fans cheered. I was just saying that if there had been some boos or a less than warm welcome, Rick would have reported it in a positive light so as to not ruin the good feeling that TP has instilled.

No, I think you're dead on. I don't harbor ill will toward him. I just want the same thing - a mea culpa, even a half-assed, embarrassed mumbled apology that acknowledges that while he didn't mean to hurt the fans, he knows some were and are still upset with how he left. That's all. Just acknowledge how his actions affected the fans.

Like I said before, I am still going to one day sit my son and nieces and nephews and hopefully their kids down and tell them about how we had one of the best goalies of all-time on our team and how I got to see him play live.

Probably not. I'm not holding my breath, anyway.

Like I said before - everything outside of his shot at the Cup was secondary and the fans were simply collateral damage.

Seriously??? McGahee is the only example you could come up with. I think a better one was Thurman Thomas. Thomas dissed the team on the way out of town and went to play for the Phins. He was welcomed back too...

I can somewhat forgive TT for that. IIRC he was surprised by his salary cap-driven release so he went to the Dolphins to try to stick it to the Bills.

I can't forgive him for playing in aqua and orange but he played less than one full season in Miami and the Bills moved quickly to mend the bridges when he announced his retirement, and TT signed a one-day deal in Feb following his final NFL game so he could retire as a Bill.

Ok. I didn't even mean or want to get into this discussion. The point I wanted to make is that if there was a good player from the past that is being honored for a day they are going to get cheered. Fans are always about the here and now and want to cheer for something. Even wolf and weave have mentioned in this thread that if they were actually at the game they would probably cheer and not boo hasek (I think I read that - sorry if i'm misquoting you guys).

I didn't even know Thurman dissed his team on the way out since I was too young. Thanks for the history lesson. This could bring up another point that some fans at the arena yesterday could not have even known that Hasek dissed buffalo and just knew he was a great goalie from the 99' cup run who played w/ the Sabres.

I think we are agreeing to agree.

I think the reason he said that was A)because he won a cup there because he was finally surrounded with talent and B) because he was probably treated better in Detroit than he was in Buffalo. Those are two things that would have been different (at least from early indications) under Pegula. It is a shame that the organization developed such a terrible reputation. Lets face facts. Buffalo was lucky to discover Hasek and his talents would have emerged somewhere so it's not like he owed us for his big break. The team still trotted out a washed up Grant Fuhr over him for a season.

Yes he handled his departure quite poorly and his sour attitude towards management definitely hurt the fans that supported him. But he did a lot of good for the community and we owe him one of our two Stanley Cup finals appearances. If not for him, the late 90's would have been unbearable.

So I join those that thank him for what he did for the Sabres and am deeply dissapointed that the organization that was run by criminals and then the disinterested has run so many good and great players out of town. Here's to better days ahead!

Actually, Buffalo (Muckler, I think) was actually smarter than the rest of the league as Dom was already in the league and all teams had a chance to acquire him. Heck, the Blackhawks could have kept him. I do agree he was treated better by the Detroit organization, but Buffalo put him on the map. The Peca debacle is additional proof of the Rigas disaster.

Funny thing about players being run out, they only ran out of the organization. Many dissed players still kept (and still keep) homes in WNY. Peca, Bodger and others never sold their homes. I'm glad that Pegula wants to do the right things to make the Sabres a desirable FA destination, since the community has already done its part. There's already a great hockey culture in WNY both professional and amateur, which many of these guys want. Not much hockey culture in Carolina, I assume.

However, I'm willing to put the thrills and SC Final and other playoff appearances above the departure debacle. Seeing him return to cheers can only bring good things. I wish the Bills(Wilson) had the sense to do that for Lou Saban.

Harrington's blog post:

7:10 p.m.: Hasek gets a roaring standing ovation as he's introduced and drops the puck between Thomas Vanek and Andrew Ladd. Players on both sides tapping their sticks and Lindy Ruff and the Buffalo staff applauding heartily. He exits behind the penalty box through the stands, high-fiving folks on both sides of the aisle. Just trot him out for a couple minutes and people love it. That's how you do things in the 40th anniversary season. Should have been like this all the time all season. Thanks for nothing, Tom and Larry. Great moment.

Bullseye on the bolding! Unfortunately, they're probably not reading it and since they're completely out of the picture, their attitude toward the Sabres now is probably DILLIGAF.

I know I'm getting way ahead of myself, but I think it's safe to say that at least Tom and Larry won't be anywhere near the organization 10 years from now for our Jubilee season. Hopefully we'll have at least 1-2 Cups by that time.

Nuthin' about nuthin' but back in my trouble makin' days I used to own a baseball hat that said DILLIGAF. It never failed to get a "what does DILLIGAF mean?" response.

Not gonna lie, I had to look it up. First I've seen that one.

Well, I have to wonder if that was TG & LQ's attitude about having the Sabres in their possession the whole time. I can't prove it, but there were certainly whispers about it.

I need a shirt or hat like that for work when dealing with customers (and whiny staff, of course).

I think this thread has completely been hijacked, and I will be honest, I have not read much of this thread. However, I have to say, I'm still bitter with how things ended with Hasek. I'm still also very bitter about how things ended with Peca too. So, I'm not terribly thrilled about Hasek's return as he does not bleed for the Buffalo Sabres given how things ended.

However, there's no doubt, he and Perrault are the two best Sabres players of all time. No question about it. He was better than everyone in the league and single handedly put the team on his back regularly. The team was completely talentless around him, and he was the only guy who elevated the entire team. The 2001-2002 season proved how important he was to the team. The team had no talent and no goalie and it was a terrible year.

But, I'm still bitter. He was a cry-baby and whiner and prevented the Sabres from acquiring Sergei Federov because he didn't want the team to trade good players and prevent his chance for winning the Cup. It was always about him.

I guess time heals all wounds and if the Canadiens and Patrick Roy can reconcile, I presume the Sabres and Hasek can reconcile, but I'm still bitter.

And get over yourself, you immature, pathetic, young whippersnapper. ;)
