Columbus is doing a special "shirts and skins" game tomorrow. Guess which team Buffalo is.

 I hear Nathan's got a very muscular physique!

I loved Grosek. I really thought he was going to be the real bananas. He had hands and a nasty streak.

And his favorite player was Cam Neely. Unfortunately, he didn't play anywhere close to the guy in the videos he watched before every game.

But he did kiss the helmet of his teammate on the 'kiss cam' a few years after he was traded. I just wish I could remember who it was he 'kissed.' That guy's reaction was priceless.

True story for you guys.

I was at work yesterday, Thursday, and I said to Dixon Ward, "why aren't you in Buffalo?" He goes, "why?" So I told him of the alumni game and he said he hadn't heard a peep about it. Said something along the lines of being on the West coast. He literally knew nothing of it though.

Do Dix a favor and send his contact info to Ted Black. Rob Ray said something to the effect they're making this an annual tradition for the last regular season home game. This year's was thrown together rather last minute so many players couldn't be found or had prior commitments. Ward was a major contributor for the Sabres and deserves to be honored.

Re the video: Peca is showing everyone how to do the "royal wave".

Absolutely, and with more notice I'll bet that they'll have at least double this years turnout in the future. What a fantastic treat this is for Sabres fans.

I will do so. Dixon scored that huge goal against Dallas between the legs on Belfour with that fake hard slap shot.

This is my only memory of Grosek. I could be wrong, but I think he was quoted somewhere along the line as saying he studied video of Neely in order to better emulate him.

When did Rob say that about making it an annual thing?

Will you ask him something? After the clinching empty netter in Toronto in the ECF in 99, he said something happened on the play he couldn't discuss at the time, but he would reveal what it was in the future. Well, it's the future! I've wondered about this over the years. I thought maybe he had crapped his pants or something. I mean, clean it up. Ask it your own way. :)

He got shipped out at 24. A 23yo power forward with 20 goals was the reason you could net Gilmour and Dumont

Grosek said yesterday that leaving Buffalo was a big mistake. Lindy told him so at the time and he realizes now he should've listened.

I didn't realize he had a choice in the matter. Did he ask to be traded?

Yes. During the interview yesterday he was nearly in tears.

I saw that. Sometimes it is so hard to read what the European players are thinking .

I thought it was a terrific compliment.

I always thought guys like him and say D. Kalinin were just not raised to demonstrate passion even though they may have felt it intensely at times.

I missed that one. Not trying to be a jerk, but... link?

Oh this is sweetness!!!

So now you are telling me that Darcy's best trade was also ANOTHER forced trade, ala Peca, Hasek, Kozlov, et al.?

Thank you for inadvertantly adding to the arsenal. I just remember Grosek saying his girlfriend could devise a better power play.

It's not forced just because a middling player asks for it, and when you think about it, it is tougher to get a good return when the whole league knows you need to make the trade.

All that said, his best trade was Gratton for Briere anyway.

Does anyone know if Roy made an appearance last night?

I'm sure he was at the game but he was not part of the pregame ceremony.

two notables for me missing besides Dixon and they were Shony and Curtis Brown.

I think Schony is still in the NY Rangers front office, so was likely busy. Perhaps in his place they could have played his record album during the pre-game ceremonies! Craig Ramsey was also missing for obvious reasons, but he did his part having his Thrashers beat the Rangers, to at least take a mental load off of us.
