Stoner Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Seems like a good time to pause and remember our original 70-71 Sabres who have died: Steve Atkinson, Reg Fleming, Cliff Schmautz, Kevin O'Shea and Roger Crozier.

It's breaking my heart I can't go to the game tonight because I have to drive to attend a wake. I'm embarrassed to say that my family got laughing by saying "how inconsiderate for someone to die the week of fan appreciation night."

Isn't that the kind of thing you're supposed to be saying during a wake?
Dave Dryden Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 I have had Center Ice through DirectTV here in Ohio for years and I've never had a pregame show. At best, the feed starts maybe a couple of minutes early, but never a full half hour or hour. What is more likely is the post-game. Sometimes they click the feed off immediately, sometimes they leave it on. No rhyme or reason to it...it just happens, or it doesn't. What I want to know is: Where do you live? Why do you get the pre-game show and most of us don't? If you have the Sports Channel package on DirecTV, on 638 you will get the pre and post game show for the Sabres even without Center Ice. If you have Center Ice, the entire production pre-game, game and post-game is on 638, if you have both CI and SP.

Dave Dryden Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 and... Rico ... Nope, he was drafted in 1971. Was not on the team that year.
X. Benedict Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 If there are any shutterbugs out there, I hope you can take a ton of shots tonight.
tom webster Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 If there are any shutterbugs out there, I hope you can take a ton of shots tonight. Am I the only shocked that Grosek is only 35 years old?
X. Benedict Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Am I the only shocked that Grosek is only 35 years old? I was. I thought that's not much older than Hecht.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Am I the only shocked that Grosek is only 35 years old? He got shipped out at 24. A 23yo power forward with 20 goals was the reason you could net Gilmour and Dumont

Just Center Ice, VS, and NHL Network, and XM for when I'm not home to watch the games. So I got everything but the pre-game :(
X. Benedict Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 He got shipped out at 24. A 23yo power forward with 20 goals was the reason you could net Gilmour and Dumont I didn't realize/or remember that he requested the trade. I don't know where I heard it yesterday, but he called requesting that trade his biggest regret.

Stoner Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 I always find it funny that Grosek's goal in Philly is a bit forgotten. Beating the Flyers for the first time in the playoffs -- as a pretty big underdog -- was huge. "You could knock me over with a feather" said RJ.

So now you are telling me that Darcy's best trade was also ANOTHER forced trade, ala Peca, Hasek, Kozlov, et al.? Thank you for inadvertantly adding to the arsenal. I just remember Grosek saying his girlfriend could devise a better power play.

I really thought he was going to be the real bananas. He had hands and a nasty streak.

Wouldn't that make it *more* impressive since he wasn't trading Grosek from a position of strength?
tom webster Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Grosek asking to be traded is nowhere near the same scenario. How many players do you think ask to be traded in a given year? You can start the count by going over the healthy scratch list.
darksabre Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Shoot, I should have checked that list of Sabres Alumni sooner. If I had realized that Don Edwards was gonna be there we could have just taken the jersey my friend has down there and asked him PERSONALLY if it was his. I feel like a slouch.
Cereal Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 So, why did they end up wearing their white uni's tonight instead of their darks? I know that teams typically have new sets of unis for the first half of the season, the second half, and then the playoffs. So, if they gave those fans the shirts off their backs after the game, are they planning on wearing their darks tomorrow at Columbus?

The fans will be playing the next game.

He said he'd check into it. Of course the NHL and Flyers had to agree. We ask, they deliver.

Guess which team Buffalo is.
