Two or less Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Forever a Sabres legend. R.I.P. Thoughts and prayers to his family. Very sad news.
BetterDays06 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Thoughts and prayers go out to Rick's family, friends and sabres organization... You will be missed #7
Iron Crotch Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 RIP Rick. It is a crying shame he won't be around to see the team finally hoist the cup in the coming years.
X. Benedict Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Scott -- very nice touch on the home page. I'm not one to tear up much. But that shot got me.
themaze2332 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 My condolences go out to Rick and his family. May he always be remembered for all of the great things he did both on and off of the ice. May our team and organization do you proud in the upcoming years! Rest in peace #7!
wjag Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Scott -- very nice touch on the home page. Now those are sideburns!!!! Forgot those ham chops... Nice tribute by RJ to open the telecast.
SabresFan526 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Martin was a bit before my time, but what tragic news. Martin represents Sabres history and tradition. I think there was so much the Sabres were going to do to reconnect with the alumni, and he was one of the major cogs in that, but sadly that will not be the case. It's a sad day for the entire Sabres family and my condolences to the Martin family. So tragic.
BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Full press conference of Rick up on WGR 550 website in case anyone missed it.
LabattBlue Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Great Aud memories thanks to the French Connection. I was just thinking recently that it is hard to believe that Perreault is 60. So glad that Pegula arranged for a FC reunion at the Atlanta game a couple of weeks ago. RIP Rico. :(
frissonic Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 i don't know if any headline has ever shocked me as much as coming back to this site and seeing the front page. i actually woke up my wife from her nap from inhaling from the shock. i don't even know where to begin. just when TP extends the hand of reconciliation and martin reconnects with the organization, this has to happen? how? my condolences to all of you--not just his immediate family or friends, but to all of you fans of the team. i reel with you in the shock and horror. may we all take solace in the memories we have of him as a person and player.
rickshaw Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Wow, I don't know what to say. I remember him being a fave of mine early on because my name is Rick as well. Such brutal news. All the good things happening in Sabreland and now this. Terrible news. So sad. I hope he didn't suffer. My thoughts are with his family now.
biodork Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Also before my time, but still very sad - hate to see anyone go that young. NHL.com article
Stormin Norman Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 A boyhood hero. I wore number 7 in honor of Rico when I played hockey as a kid. I remember his big slap shot and his speed. I remember Rick being checked hard and going into convulsions on the ice, which terrified the hell out of me. He had only one move when he tried to beat a defenseman one-on-one, and it seemed to fail 98% of the time. The "Rick Martin Move," my friends and I would call it. These memories are recalled with great affection for a player I have always admired and respected. I really looked forward to the French Connection being a major part of Sabres hockey again. RIP Rico.
FogBat Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Wow. I just couldn't believe it when I saw the topic. I was so hoping that all three FC members would live to see the day when we would become Stanley Cup champions. My prayers go out to the Martin family. We truly lost a legend today.
LeGrosGil Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 ... the French Connection on the ice after the final game finally hoisting that thing...RIP Rico... GO SABRES. GET IT DONE.
dumb_dumb88 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Very sad, a favorite of mine as a kid growing up. I'll always remember Rico for who he was as a player and what he means to this organization. Condolences to the Martin family. His legacy will live on through his family and his memory will always and forever be a part of our Sabres family as a member of the French Connection. RIP
LeGrosGil Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Sad sad day...as part of any fan experience planned downtown, the Sabres should include a memorial park like the Yankees do... Horton, Spencer, Crozier, sadly now Richard Martin...these guys will not be forgotten
