LGR4GM Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Sabres front page has his picture and stuff... even for a young guy like me its heartbreaking... http://sabres.nhl.com/
DFITZ1 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 An absolute shock. RIP Rico and thank you for years of excitement and being one who put Buffalo on the major league map. Many others will say it, but I'm so glad fans old and young got to see the French Connection together again. Lines like that are rare this day and age.
X. Benedict Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Saw the subject line. Hoped beyond hope it was some kind of joke. Moments of silence are fine and that's what they'll rightly have. This guy deserves a moment of cheering. Yes.
Corp000085 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Saw the subject line. Hoped beyond hope it was some kind of joke. Moments of silence are fine and that's what they'll rightly have. This guy deserves a moment of cheering. Anyone going to the game tonight, raise your beer during your moment!
walstib Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Heaven's hockey team just picked up a 50 goal scorer. My heart goes out to those that know him best. Fare thee well, #7
Claude_Verret Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Saw the subject line. Hoped beyond hope it was some kind of joke. Moments of silence are fine and that's what they'll rightly have. This guy deserves a moment of cheering. Yes indeed. Prayers for the Martin family. RIP.
X. Benedict Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Some people had the Beatles. We had the French Connection.
bunomatic Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 My God this is shocking news.R.I.P.and condolences to the family.
thesportsbuff Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Lindy Ruff, Rob Ray and Larry Playfair are addressing the media at 4:15 in case anybody is interested in listening... will be on WGR. Sure to be emotional.
johnyvegas Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 I am heartbroken. My favorite all time Sabre. My idol as a kid. My personal hand painted bubble hockey avatar. I can't believe it. So sad. But also so thankful to Pegula for the on ice reunion. An incredible moment, even more so now. I met Rick when i was 6 or 7 and he was so nice and gracious. The Sabres banner he signed for me that day hangs in my 5 yr old son's room today. He made a tremendous impression on me and solidified my love for the game and especially the Sabres. Thank you Rick for the years of joy you brought to me in the time you played and in instilling a love for the game and this team that i will carry with me forever. Though I didn't really know you, I always thought of you as a friend. Rest in peace Rick.

bob_sauve28 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Horrible! How sad, RIP my friend. Best wishes to your family
bob_sauve28 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Some people had the Beatles. We had the French Connection. 59 is way to early to go. How does a hockey player have a heart attack? Didn't he stay in shape? Wow, this is just so shocking I can't believe it.
Stoner Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 It's weird. As a still-young franchise, we haven't had to deal with this often. It's going to happen a lot more in the coming years, unfortunately. Roger Crozier Brian Spencer Now Rick How many former Sabre players have we lost?
Corp000085 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 According to the news, Rene Robert got word this morning that his older brother died. Wow. I feel for Rene...
Ohiofan Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Oh No! This is heartbreaking news. My God he was so young! The thread put up on old Aud memories had me really reminiscing this morning...watching numbers 7, 14 and 11 play throughout my youth solidified my love of the game and brought me great joy. May he rest in peace. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.
bob_sauve28 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 He bought my brother a beer at Mulligans once. Real nice guy
Hans Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 So Rick got a segment on ESPN. Unfortunately, ESPN is not competent enough to spell Sabres right.
nucci Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 It's weird. As a still-young franchise, we haven't had to deal with this often. It's going to happen a lot more in the coming years, unfortunately. Roger Crozier Brian Spencer Now Rick How many former Sabre players have we lost? Tim Horton.
SouthernSabre Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 He always was and always will be my favorite Sabre. Rick Martin was the first Sabres name I remebered as a little child via Ted Darling. RIP #7 FOREVER!!!!
Weave Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Sad to hear this. I met Rick at the Links at Ivy Ridge golf course this past Summer. Great guy. We talked hockey a bit and talked current events too. Very down to earth. Very willing to give his thoughts on the current Sabres. Pretty damned good golfer too. He was always one of the Sabres that I enjoyed so meeting him was a thrill. I raise my glass to Rick this afternoon. Godspeed.
SDS Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 I don't know what to say... it's just a shame he couldn't be here to see more of the future unfold for this franchise and his children.
