hockeyhound Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 I cannot really discribe how I felt when I saw this video. I liked how they are reaching out to the players wives, etc. Like military wives, and children... Wow, thanks Terry, Ted, and whoever else. Way to show some respect. I was amazed to hear they are going to have a pre & post game show from now on. http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabres-nhl/article363953.ece
Wayne VanDorp Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Does anyone know if there are plans to retire 39 at this Hasek night coming up?

Taro T Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Does anyone know if there are plans to retire 39 at this Hasek night coming up? I'd be shocked if they did on that night. But 39 should be up in the rafters. If the 19th goes well, I'd expect it'll happen sooner than later.
dumb_dumb88 Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Does anyone know if there are plans to retire 39 at this Hasek night coming up? It should happen, probably next season, but, you never know.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 this is great to see that real actions stand behind the words. This offseason could be a great beginning to the creation of a storied franchise
nfreeman Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 this is great to see that real actions stand behind the words. This offseason could be a great beginning to the creation of a storied franchise Good call. I think they are going to bring in a blue-chip FA this summer.
wjag Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Good call. I think they are going to bring in a blue-chip FA this summer. Peter Forsberg will probably be available.
biodork Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 I'm guessing some folks also get the WGR e-mails, but just in case: Sabres' President Ted Black joins Schopp and the Bulldog at 5 this afternoon and will answer your phone calls as well! Click here to check out the pictures of the new locker room. (http://wgr550.com/More-pictures-of-the-Sabres-new-look-locker-room/9374770)
wjag Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 I'm guessing some folks also get the WGR e-mails, but just in case: Take a look at the second picture with the Pegula quote.. I'm gonna ruin it for you. Doesn't that yellow horn look eerily familiar? Doesn't it look like the slug? The slug has been with us all along. It's part of the Sabres legacy! There are no so blind as those who refuse to see. second picture

If the 19th goes well, I'd expect it'll happen sooner than later. Define "goes well." There's such a good feeling in the air, and if the team is still going well, I don't think there'll be much booing for Dom, especially on a night where other alumni will be recognized. (As opposed to an event singularly focused on Dom like a number retirement.) Still, a few hundred people booing can be very loud. Heck, it sounded like Chara was being booed last night. A statement by Dom acknowledging how badly the departure was handled (wanting to leave, having input into the trade, the comment about retiring as a Wing) would go a long ways toward defusing the tension.
biodork Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Rumor is Malkin has seen the pic of the new rug and is on the phone with his agent aswespeak. ^^^ e4 I can't remember if it was drk4sabre or someone else who commented the other night on how the broadcast crew still uses Hurricane 2000 in the television opening, but according to the article linked by the OP they are doing away with it!

It's long overdue to heal this rift with (arguably) the greatest player in the history of the team, and a guy quite frankly who is still doing good things in the community. Pegula and co. might be using this night as the olive branch to set up the retirement for a night next year. It's a nice thought to imagine 39 hanging up there next to 2 16 and 18. That being said - anyone else out there who might be retired-number worthy? Rayzor's 32? 89? 25?

Kind of like the Supreme Court justice and porn, I may not be able to define it but I'll know it when I see it. If there is a significant portion of the crowd that cheers and a neglibible amount of fans booing, it'll have gone well. I can't say for certain right now what those ratios will need to be of pro vs con, but I expect it'll be apparent at the time whether it's going well or not. Maybe someone currently on the roster will get there, but I don't see any of the other former Sabres that should have their # retired. Heck, I don't even think all the #'s up there currently should be retired. There are 3 #'s that I'd have up there (11, 16, 39), and I could see a case for 2 being up there due to the way his career ended. I could see having a banner for the French Connection in the rafters but wouldn't have 7 or 14 retired. I also wouldn't have 18 up there even though he was one of my favorite players. The Sabres have their own HoF, and all those guys belong in there. But having your sweater retired should be very rare and special.

Hasek needs to send an olive branch this way. PASF has it right. Hasek needs to make right with the team and the fans, not vise-versa. Whew. Glad I got that off my chest.

I mean, you are reading my mind. 'cept that 39 thing. But I already covered that in the post above.

But the more important role of Mogilny is the way he came to the team via defection from the old USSR after the 1989 WJC. He wore number 89 in honor of that year, that alone shows the passion he had to play in the NHL and wore that as his number for his entire career. The circumstances of his arrival combined with his play as Lafontaine's wingman should be more than enough to put him up there I would think.

I don't care what happened at the end of Hasek's tenure and who was at fault; he was one of the best players this team ever had, possibly THE best. If Pegula can use him to inspire the current team, I don't care who apologizes to whom. The past is past. Use it to build the mystique of the team, not to stir dissension. Pegula knows this.

Fat lotta inspiration it'll bring if Hasek is in here to be honored and there are 1,000+ fans in attendance that don't care to see him at center ice and rain down boos. If I am at the game where he is honored, and he hasn't appologized to the team and fans for his behavior you can bet I'll be one of the 1000+ voicing my displeasure. Hasek chose to leave on bad terms and there is a large community of fans that still resent him for it. Makes no sense to me to bring him in here before he has addressed the reason for the resentment. Now, if you want to talk about Pegula sending out a feeler to see if Hasek is open to cleaning out the wound, I'd be willing to listen to what he has to say.
